well not really distant, someone from OA let me PSN share the game with him and others, so we all have access to it.  Dude it's really good, I thought it would be shit, but it's pretty addictive.

It just shows that there's a lot of people buying Wii systems, so what?  It just means a lot of people don't have any taste...what are they buying Wiis for?  Wii Sports?  Yay.

a.) GOTTA VALIDATE MY PURCHASE

b.) OH SHIT! GAMES TO PLAY

Warhawk is just a poor mans BF2

No, they are both shit town for games.  Wii is just all the worse because it has become massively successful based off of hollow hype.

I enjoyed some of Monkey Ball and Raving Rabbids, but that's about it.  Everything else has been a miss.   Wii has nothing in the same league as Virtua Fighter or Resistance.  Even the meager PS3 library dumps on it.

Title: Re: Hey wow Warhawk is pretty fun.
Post by: Saint Cornelius on May 30, 2007, 02:27:31 PM
Virtua Fighter is the prefered fighter for people who don't leave the house and Resistance, another FPS like yawn.

Anything original, or prettier versions of the same games we've been playing for years now?
Title: Re: Hey wow Warhawk is pretty fun.
Post by: Himu on May 30, 2007, 03:12:11 PM
Nope, not really, but I can't say there's much originality on the Wii either. Nintendo force feeds the dimwits making them think it's new and innovative, when it isn't. At least the games released so far.

"Games have too complex controls now."

And then a game like SSX Blur comes out and the controls are far more complex than anything on a traditional controls. Show me one original Wii game.
Title: Re: Hey wow Warhawk is pretty fun.
Post by: Saint Cornelius on May 30, 2007, 03:14:03 PM
What do you mean, show you an original Wii game? Were people playing motion-detecting games at home before the Wii?

Boxing is like having Konami's MoCap boxing in your living room. So what if they look like weeblewobbles.

Show me one original PS3 game.
Title: Re: Hey wow Warhawk is pretty fun.
Post by: Himu on May 30, 2007, 03:15:44 PM
Just because it's motion sensing doesn't make it the omg original or innovative.
Title: Re: Hey wow Warhawk is pretty fun.
Post by: Saint Cornelius on May 30, 2007, 03:18:11 PM
It does, actually. But whatever. Where are those innovative games on the PS3?
Title: Re: Hey wow Warhawk is pretty fun.
Post by: Himu on May 30, 2007, 03:22:57 PM
They certainly aren't innovative, which is one reason it doesn't interest me. As I have said plenty of times, ps3 is the sequalitis console.

Still, for what it is, ps3's games look far more appealing. When you count the fact many are heading to the 360 it doesn't discount the fact they'll still be on ps3. That just makes ps3 more awesome than Wii. It's got games that aren't gimmicks heading to it, multiconsole or not.

That said, just because a game is "original" or "innovative" doesn't make it a good game.

The only Wii Sports game that is actually any good is bowling.  That's a pretty damned fine bowling game, too.  The rest of the package is garbage that only a non-gamer or ninthing could love.  Wii got the hype, but it's not a machine for gamers as of right now.

Tennis and golf aren't so bad, but I generally agree.

Tennis is pong without the requirement of skill.  Golf.  ..well, it shows that a great golf game is potentially possible on Wii, but it is not it.  I found it difficult to properly gauge my shots, which is kind of game breaking.  Putting also blew.

it does if the original games were quality (VF5, MLB '07 The Show, Ridge Racer 7, Hot Shots Golf 5) or are an entry in a proven genre by a top-quality developer (Resistance).

really, though, who is asking for "original" games? i simply want good ones -- of which the wii has exceptionally few (twilight princess, also on gamecube).

Originality is neat on the fringe, but there's a reason why the most original artists aren't recognized until they are dead.

I like how Corny brings up the innovation and originality argument when all of the notable Wii games are regurgitated rehashes of old Nintendo franchises. The only notable must have Wii game in the future that is anything new is No More Heroes.

Hey Corny, gonna have fun with Mario Party 8?
Title: Re: Hey wow Warhawk is pretty fun.

most of the wii sales are to the nintendo faithful, with a good assist from non-gamers who found the latest iteration of the snowglobe or the big mouth billy bass to be just enticing enough to solicit their credit card. once the gamecube ninthing set and the ninfamilies hit critical mass and the novelty of wagglepong wears off, we should see a nice healthy decline in sales. note: SHOULD. i think there's still folks who buy furbies and beanie babies, so i could be wrong.

I saw a group of HARD ROCKS playing the fuck out of Wii Boxing a week ago and these were NOT the type of people you would associate with liking games, more like the kind of people that carjack you in D&B's parking lot. They were LOVING IT. Not a granny in site.

Hey Corny, gonna have fun with Mario Party 8?

Hells yah once I buy a Wii! MP + booze + shit-talking friends = a good night for all.

Wii:

*slightly upgraded gamecube hardware
*overcharging for 8 bit games people have paid for in full at some point in their lifetime
*crappy online implementation
*devs cant stoop to Nintendos level to produce quality third party waggle titles
*devs are frustrated because the console wont allow them to play to their strengths, even IF the Wii has extreme sales potential
*offering the same initial line-up as the last two Nintendo consoles
*convinces idiotic fans that while they mocked DDR people for jumping like morons on a plastic pad, its suddenly ok to wave a plastic wand and make idiotic motions.

ironically -- much as with the ds -- the cognitive dissonance ninthing set shows by their purchase and preference patterns that what they WANT are not waggle/touch games, but nostalgia hooks. the gaf "what are you playing on wii" thread was enlightening: all they REALLY care about are old school VC games and DS platformers from classic NES/SNES-era franchises, and if you look at what they're consistently playing/anticipating on the DS, it's always games like castlevania/nsmb/yoshi/advance wars/fire emblem/pokeyman/rpgs et al, all of which do not require a novelty interface in any way shape or form, and would definitely look/sound better on a PSP or 360. once they realize en masse that nintendo doesn't give a fuck about core gamers and thus they should buy a fuckin' PS3/360 (or even a PS2), we'll all be better off.

wario ware isn't original, and it's also a mini-game collection -- which pretty much embodies the notion of novelty/fad gaming.
Title: Re: Hey wow Warhawk is pretty fun.

Wii Sports. Elebits. Excite Truck. Ghost Squad. Mario Party 8 AKA "The Go Fuck Yourself Haters" edition. Red Steel. Super Paper Mario. Trauma Center.

Eh, I liked it but it was way too short.  But even if it weren't, it's just a mini-game collection.  They have no depth and once you clear them, party is pretty much over.

And most of the games Corny listed are totally mediocre.  Aside from Trauma Center.  And I haven't played Ghost Squad.  Oh, wait, Ghost Squad doesn't ship until November.
Title: Re: Hey wow Warhawk is pretty fun.

But it is still better than the other games I've played on Wii. Terrible, huh?

I don't really mind that Wario Ware is a mini game collection, because they're actually FUN games. I have no problem with Wii being a fad/mini game console, as long as the games are GOOD.

Well no, but I don't usually make $249 impulse buys, either.

It wasn't an impulse buy.  I BELIEVED.

Day 1, I disliked the waggle.  Zelda was ruined for me (the awful camera control would sometimes give me motion sickness).  Then the console clicked, and I liked it tons.  I brought it home for Christmas and played a lot of Wii Sports with my brother.  It was a good time.  Then I flew back to WA and after Wario, I didn't touch the console again until SPM came out.  And then I played SPM for about a week and it hasn't been turned on since.

Marble Mania is a lot of fun and an excellent use of the Wii controller (certainly better than SMB:BB!), although its over pretty quickly. Well, you could always try to better your times (getting gold trophies looks to be nearly impossible!), or play 2 players and race through the courses. I really dug the game and its aesthetic, and nearly everyone else who have played the game (on NeoGAF at least) seem to enjoy it. I certainly liked it a lot more than your typical overrated Wii titles like Excite Truck and Sonic.

N64 - Gamecube should have been enough to convince you Nintendo only knows how to do handhelds correctly.

Why, cause third parties actually bothered supporting the handhelds?

DS had a pretty shitty first year too. The difference between the Wii and GC is that the Wii is actually popular. I'm pretty sure you'll see a better library on Wii than GC (though that might not be saying much).

DS didn't have a shitty first year. It had an okay first year, but even then, by the time E3 rolled around we knew what was coming out that fall, and that fall certainly did NOT have a shitty line up. Wii, at this point, has 2 worthwhile games this fall.

I remember people complaining about the huge draught for the first year, but whatever.

Of course Wii doesn't have too many good games announced, because it basically blindsided the industry. Now third parties are trying to scurry to take advantage.

why is anyone entertaining this gormless dickhead?

as if lack of "originality," assuming what the gimp says is true, precludes one's enjoyment of what's arriving on the ps3.

more to the point, is "originality" inherently welcome?

eh, i've seen no evidence of this, nor is it something i'd want to occur.

I'm guessing those two for you are Mario and Metroid? Three if you're not a Super Smash Bros hater. Four if No More Heroes makes it out this year.

with its inferior graphics output, relative to what even average titles on the ps3 and 360 achieve, every game coming to the wii is forgettable -- at that price.

$250 for an antiquated system is a ripoff.

Yes, Mario and Metroid. Three if No More Heroes drops. I MAY get Smash. I dunno. I'm not a big fan but it's something for my Wii so...I might as well get some new multiplayer action for the thing.

Like Futami said, I've seen no evidence to support this. Maybe third parties looking for cash ins, but not for bringing out quality games, DESPITE the wii's popularity.

developers are, in many respects, artists; engineers of a evocative stimuli that look to elicit an emotional response from the gaming public.

the fact is, they WANT to push the boundaries, surmounting barriers that were previously uchallengable, taking hold of new technology to create worlds that shame what was achievable last gen

the 360 and PS3 offer them a palette that the Wii can't.

i can't fathom how ANYONE could spend $250 on that sham of a system.

i agree, which is why i haven't purchased a ps3.

to spite sony, i won't own one until the priced has dropped significantly.

however, i still think the 360 offers even less value, as far as i'm concerned.

not impressed by its technology or the catalog of games available and slated to arrive.

I just played the beta...

IT was totally kicking ass...

Then I was on the island map with the 2 bridges (second map on CTF rotation) I drove my jeep twoards the enemy base, the picked off my gunner, they shot out my tires OR the control had some serious glit for a second...anyway it was epic - I started driving up those ramps twoards the flag.

I drove past two enemy fighters shooting mech guns at me...I jump off of the last platform before the flag and crash into a manned enemy tank....my jeep is wedged in and i cant escape....he slowly turns his turret to kill me....so I jump out over his shot which destroys the jeep, onto his top...then off the other side as i turn and lob a grenade into his side....i land on my feet and am about to thro the second frag under him when th PS3 froze and had to be hard reset....

HORRIBLE COKKIN TIMING.

Anyone else getting Warhawk freezes?

Also - does voicechat work in this?

I never hear anyone on the mic :(

Voice chat works, I always hear a bunch of preteens swearing and guys burping into their mics.

I'm terrible at this game, but I've had a lot of fun. I tend to hop into a Warhawk and fly away from the action, collecting shit and admiring the pretty backdrops.

it Freezes for me too often :(

I dont know why I desire to waste my time with a beta - oh well im gonna move on - the final product for this will be awesome tho..so many weapons - im especially fond of the numerous types of mounted gun turrets you can take control of...

Time for some PS3 R6 Vegas.
