So, I was planning on taking a trip on Monday and some shit went down and I ended up not going (just set my tickets for another date). So I had a week and a half off from work for vacation time.
Well I've been coming in to work. I figure, I might as well not let the work pile on and get it out slowly. I just have no set hours, if I don't feel like sitting at my desk and actually working, I don't have to. I usually do it in the morning because all my friends are working too and I need something to pass the beginning of the day.
My friend told me that it's pretty sad. I told her to shut the fuck up before I socked her in the mouth again.
But it's not like I'm actually invested, I just know that if I take the whole week and a half off and not take care of anything, I'm going to be stressed for the month following my vacation.

Dude i know how you feel. i had to leave work cause of all this mouth nonsense and like right after i got done with the implant i wanted to go back to work. Cause i knew shit was falling apart and i'm the backbone at work. Sure enough shit was going to hell corporate was getting fustrated and on top of it they didnt know how to deal with the employees. i get back in there and in two days i get shit back in order. But now i feel all fucked up at work. Nothing is going "right" vacation/recoup days or not it wasnt worth it cause now my promotion is in jeopardy.
But a vacation is good man, you need to clear your head every now and then. Get your mind off work and onto relaxsation and shit like that.

sooo....are you getting paid for the hours that you are working? If not, then yeah, it is pretty sad.

People that come in when they don't have to get noticed. It could help you out in the long run, I wouldn't call that sad. I actually did the same last week!

Yeti: I'm getting paid in the sense that I get paid for my vacation time anyways, does that count?
whiteacid: I think you and I are just awesome.

i'm quite the opposite: as a fairly high-level manager, if you're coming in when you aren't supposed to, or are working ridiculous hours, you're telling me that either a) you suck at long-term planning or project scoping, or b) i suck at long-term scheduling/scoping. i don't like either of those answers. i also don't like that folks who pull extra hours or come in on vacation lower morale for folks who *do* want to maintain work/life balance and i don't like that such behavior creates needless competition. one specific case aside, i tend to get pretty frowny face at employees who do not have a compelling and immediate product-centric excuse for working beyond 40 hours/wk or who come in on vacation.

drinky, my excuse for my workload is the fact that I have two empty positions, one right above me and one right below me. I've absorbed the workload for those positions until my managers can find someone to take those positions. I don't care as long as I get paid for the hours I do. Thank god for not being salary at this job. and I'm not high level management either. mid level at best >:(
