Title: Banks are Going to Get Spanked
Post by: MrAngryFace on June 01, 2007, 02:08:08 PM

Well, help may be on the way. Two major studies are being conducted to examine bank bounced check practices -- one by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and one by the General Accountability Office, Congress’ investigative arm. Federal legislation introduced by Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., would bar many current bank overdraft practices. And a congressional hearing is planned for later this summer to highlight abuses of the practice.

"Congress should help rein in the billions of dollars in hidden overdraft fees that bank customers are forced to shell out every year,” said Maloney, who chairs the House Subcommittee on Financial Institutions. “Hidden overdraft fees are unfair, and fairness is an essential component of a safe and sound banking system.”

At my bank, once you have an account of 50k+, they upgrade your account to "premium" and waive all check cashing fees/charges. Now, I bounce checks left and right.  :lol

I'm going to have to agree with this post.

It took Chase ~2 weeks and I thought that was a long time.

That's not even the worst part.  How is this argument for ya....

"Well, Wal Mart and Best Buy said that they have no records of the transactions ever occurring in the system."

"So what you're saying is that the money that's not in my account was never actually spent?  THEN FUCKING GIVE IT BACK"

Money Market, CD's, business checking accounts. I only keep about 1-2k in my personal checking.

Well, you're probably just having money shifted from those other accounts to cover your overages then.
