Shadowrun is a lot of fun. I can see why some people might be peeved, as you're paying $60 for a team-based Counterstrike clone with magic, but the fact that I didn't have to pay real money for it probably makes it easier for me to swallow. That said, it's a ton of fun, especially if you play with people you know and I think there's going to be a real competitive community that builds around this game. Let's hope Microsoft realizes the potential and does FREE and PAY FOR downloadable content. If this was a XBL game that was like 1600 points or something, it'd probably be the sleeper hit of the year.

Figures Willco would be the one to like it
-
whatever you say brimstone
-
Bad and missing animation makes the game look unfinished; not enough maps to stay interesting for long; does absolutely nothing with the shadowrun license.
That automatically bumps it down to a game I'd check out if it were $20. Then again, it uses the blasphemer console FPS controls, so that's another strike against the 360 version. I'd have to upgrade my PC to play the game as it was intended, so forget it.
-
The only thing that irritates me is the lack of ladder animations. That's like so, '98 vintage PC FPS crap. Other than that - there are enough quality maps and unique twists to play to warrant at least a rental.
It controls really well, Lhadatt. I totally dig it. If I had to actually pay money for it, I probably would wait 'till it's used or a price drop. $60 is pretty steep for what's included.
A lot of fun is to be had, though.

I might try it...
after I'm done playing with my TRIPLE BITCHES.
-
No true Deathmatch = Boooooo!
-
It is full of magic, fun and love.
-
TVC warned me away, he's a big FPS nut so I trust his judgement.
-
i should be getting my copy tonight, let me know if you wanna play sometime wilco
-
Totally.
I don't know what TVC's gripe is - it's advertised as pretty much Counterstrike with magic and that's what you get. That's like demanding a FFA mode in Counterstrike. It's slim on the maps, that's for sure, but it makes up with good level design and very, very balanced play mechanics.
Like I said, if Microsoft can push free and pay-to-play content out the door on XBL relatively quickly, Shadowrun could have a long run on the 360. The core for a really great game is there. As is, this will be a flash-in-the-pan unless they address some issues (lack of content and/or ladder animations!).
I'm still having a lot of fun with it. Requires more skill than say, Halo 3.
-
I dunno, TVC plays A LOT of FPS competitively from what I understand, so unless he conceeds in this thread ill be avoiding it.
Plus the art direction is garbage :(
-
The art direction is garbage.
TVC will have to concede the game is fun and the gameplay mechanics are not only solid, but incredibly balanced. He has said this much in private. His gripe is that the modes are limited, which I think is poppycock considering their aim (team-based combat) and that the content is minimal considering the price tag. Now the latter complaint is legitimate and if I had to actually pay money for the game, I would wait it out 'till a price drop, it was used or Microsoft made available free content. $60 is just way, way too much for this game.

It costs too much for too little. And 3 game modes is definitely too little. This isn't a cheap/free game like CS where you can get away with skimpy modes. A FFA deathmatch could've easily been added.
-
It'd suck, because the game is structured for team-based combat. I'd abhor a general deathmatch and I hope one is never, ever added.
Other than that, we agree!

I asked this on GAF and no one was able to answer. Aside from Tree of Life, Resurrection, and maybe one or two other powers, how would a free for all deathmatch game not fit well into the game. Yes, the modes in the game are team modes, but a FFA deathmatch could have easily been added. The way people talk, you'd think the teamplay elements were so ingrained that deathmatch wouldn't be possible or fun, which is most definitely not true.
The free HL2 mod Dystopia also includes awesome objective-based teamplay modes. Why is there nothing like that in Shadowrun? Why does Dystopia, a free mod, ship with twice as many maps, and a ton more customization options?

dystopia :bow
they need to include it in the orange box somehow
license that shit

Resurrection and Tree of Life are costly magic powers and those who actually play the game at a competitive level uses those two in tandem to help the team. Eliminating them would do a great disservice to the balance this game has or the ability to have team games turn the tide at any point. It's a team-based combat game. Having it otherwise is just silly.
As for your other point, we're in agreement, so I don't know who you're arguing with. The fact that it's a lite multiplayer game doesn't change the fact that it's fun or that it has a lot of potential.

I meant those were the only 2 powers that, offhand, would be useless in FFA deathmatch. FFA deathmatch would work fine in the game.

just as i expected, this game has not let me down (helps that i don't pay full price on games). it's going to be interesting trying to figure out the right builds catered to my play style. right now i'm enjoying the dwarf's abilities matched with sniping and enhanced vision. makes sniping so much more fun. i think the only thing that kinda annoys me is that you become inaccurate while moving (yea, it makes sense), 'cause i think it would be fun picking off fools while gliding. anyway, i'm enjoying this way more than the halo 3 beta, that shit bores me to death.
-
Lol wtf guys, wtf. Play Phantom Dust
-
i own phantom dust... and i love it. but uhh, shadowrun is more fun right out of the box. ???
-
Shadowrun is crap, and you people are supporting crap!
Buy bullet witch!
-
gah, i tried to give bullet witch a chance, really... i did =\
-

tvc: saints row!
It was critically well-received at the time, though I am sure that many, myself included, would rank it significantly lower after experiencing the sandbox shocker of Crackdown. There are still elements in Saints Row that GTA had best be ripping off.
