Title: MMORPGs...what do you recommend?
Post by: BlueTsunami on June 07, 2007, 10:42:22 PM
I'm looking for an MMO that has less emphasis on PvP and more emphasis on Item Creation...like Mining, Blacksmithing, Tailoring etc. Also being able to solo.

I'm currently playing  Ultima Online and the PvP shit is totally busting my balls. This game would be awesome if it wasn't for the droves and droves of PKers that rush through town unhindered and kill random noobs for no fucken reason. I spent an hour mining so I can Blacksmith then sell my wares...but got killed as I sold my wares. 500 Gold down the drain... :(

So what say you? I liked WoW for a while but the emphasis on joining up into Guilds and really large raids I didn't really care for.

Somebody who likes Shenmue should avoid declarative statements on videogames.

You've been really mean lately.

I think Eve is the most economy/resource heavy of the MMOs.

BT, you should look into a non-fantasy MMO. Space MMO's usually have greater emphasis on economies, item creation, resource mining. Fantasy ones tend to be combat first, everything else second.

You might like A Tale in the Desert. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Tale_in_the_Desert

A Tale in the Desert is rare among MMORPGs in that it lacks combat. The lack of levels was also a unique feature in past tales, but the most recent tale has seen the addition of a levels system. Players can kill their livestock, go on safari, and most of all engage into politics. The game focuses on building, research and community. Even more uniquely, players are able to have a lasting effect on the world; the game reaches an endpoint, after which a new Telling begins, which bears marks of the Telling before. Players can also create laws (including player bans) and make feature requests. Compared to other online games, there is also a closer to equal ratio of male to female players, and a high level of civility and generosity, as a result of the difference in focus.

I've never played it .. but I like to read the thread for it they have on Penny Arcade. Pretty interesting.

Oh man, thanks Toxic!

I read up on the site and it looks real interesting. The skill system seems to branch and theres a lot of things you can do. I'm going to try it out.
