The Italian movies are a little bit artsy fartsy, so I don't know if they'll be to your taste. The Conformist is my favorite of the Italian ones I listed, at the moment.

I was in Kyoto during Gion Matsuri... I saw one the entire time I was there: an older Geisha with her Maiko in the Gion district.
