Made a new game of FFXII since it seems I'm almost done with VP2, and I can get through GTAIII and VC pretty casually.
I decided, that this time, I would have just have to learn to not play how I've been playing Final Fantasy games for 10 years and swallow my pride. By this, I mean playing on wait mode instead of active. Surprisingly, the results are pretty good. I'm still early in the game, but it's definitely a more relaxing experience this way. The menu is not so cumbersome on wait mode because you aren't fumbling and jumbling as you sift through the menus during combat, and you can play at your own pace.
I will be playing the game with no gambits. That shit is going to be turned off at all times. Die gambits.
Hopefully it stays fun. I really want to like this game. It has the general of recipe of awesome for me, but I guess we hit it off on the wrong foot (die gambits). Here's hoping that the dungeon crawling stays at a level of decent to high quality, because that may be able to give me a means to continue playing. The only console rpgs I tend to play these days are dungeon crawlers so, I guess it has potential.
Here's what I'm going to make my party this time (very similar to what I did last time):
Vaan - Assassin (thief abilities + ability to wield larger swords like broadswords, but mostly uses daggers)
Penelo - White mage
Fran - Red Mage
Balthier - Gunner (although, I would love for him to be an Alchemist, not too sure if there are abilities for that)
Ashe - Black Mage
Basch - Samurai (can wield all bladed weapons)
-
Gambits are fun.
Good luck with keep track of your characters.
-
How are gambits fun? I just don't understand how watching the game play itself is FUN?
I know that most FF fans just wanna watch Japa stories on the screen featuring Gackt, but COME ON. YOU BUY AI. What other game lets you BUY AI so the game can play by itself?
-
How is playing with 6 characters FUN? Game is stupid.
"Here are 6 BLANK sheets, fill them in however you like, in fact hell just fill the whole page in yourself and make each sheet exactly the same!"
"Oh, did we mention that you don't even need 3 sheets to finish the game? Yah, our bad."

:lol So true but thats what i like about it.Most of the game I just used the analog.Good times.

I fucking loved Final Fantasy XII. Played on wait mode, and didn't use a Gambit once on any of my characters.

No wonder you liked it. Play it on active at the highest speed setting.ARGH.

Lazy gaming Himumu! Why don't you just embrace it?
-
I don't get the appeal at all. When I play games, I liked to be challenged, I like variety, and I want to feel as if I have some control. Those who say they welcome gambits might as well just take up movies as a hobby instead of gaming.
-
I was actually enjoying FFXII, but I was juggling it with Baten Kaitos Origins and then my finals came up. I haven't played either one since November. :-\
I played it on wait mode. I attempted to use gambits, but they never seemed to work how I wanted them to during the harder fights, so I always ended up turning them off.
-
I hated FFXII
The gambit system is fuck stupid. Its a shame the good characters and serious story were wasted on 12. Shove that shit in 8 or 10 and you've got a winner.
-
wtf. Fran has 0 mp. I use an ether AND IT WON'T HEAL HER MP. WHY?!

I hate Vaan. Stupid kid.
Basch, Balthier, and Fran ftw.

I gave GTA:SA another chance and guess what, it was still shitty
-
Not surprising given your track record of awful gaming. Go play your Nintendo Gamecube, lamer.
How would you even be able to give SA another chance? You don't have an xbox or a ps2, and you only play WoW on your pc. Get out of my face, liar.
-
San Andreas does suck. Vice City is where its at.

San Andreas doesn't suck. It's not as good as III or VC, but it's till good stuff.
-
Eh. I never became interested in SA and I stopped playing after the first couple missions.
Vice City I can STILL fucking play the entire game and enjoy the hell out of it.
-
Most people say that. SA has pacing problems and the first few missions mainly consist of tutorial shit.
Anyways, I have to give FFXII some props. The music is amazing. Bhujerba's town song is amazing.

But you have a Wii...

Im playing FFXII at the moment, Im stuck in the Stilshrine of Miriam. That damn boss is just pretty tough. Shes got these little ice fucks that rape you hard with Blizzards and shit. Ive manged to get the boss down to the very last scrap of health so I prolly just need to grind a little more to gain a couple of levels and buy some new armor.
By no means a great game but still perfectly enjoyable.
and Red Dead Revolver is better than GTA

FFXII International impressions
Holy crap. If only that license board system was there to begin with.

I rarely play it though. Gamecube was his main console. He didn't even get a ps2.

FFXII = Best game of the last generation 8)
-
Man, this story sucks. It's like, why am I doing the things I'm doing? Most of the story is given little explanation, and while I love subtlety, this game lacks it. It just looks like the game's plot doesn't know what the hell it wants to do.
I don't know why I'm fighting the people, and I have no goals, I feel as if my main party is doing what they're doing just...because. How can people complain about VP2's awesome story when FFXII's story is the embodiment of mediocrity, despite all of the potential it had to foster an excellent plot?
Does it get better later on or something?
-
I couldn't bring myself to play Final Fantasy XII after I got in trouble or whatever in the pit or something and the guy was sent after me or something and meh. Oh well. I'll give it another shot sometime.

Why dont you play it and find out?

Last night ruled. I'm on my way to Raithwall, and I decided to delay my entry into...Yena..whatever, the place that takes you along the desert to Raithwall, with lots of stairs and shit.
Anyways, I decided to explore the Westersand. I didn't do that the first time I played, and I had some fun. I encountered some cave, so I had to go in there. Surprisingly, the enemies there were 1-3 levels above me so I just had to fight them. After I got my fill I left the cavern, only to find that the desert had a sandstorm. This never happened before, so I explored a bit, and found some orange elemental. I used libra and the thing was level 45! That's awesome. I love one hit kills. So I ditched that area despite the thing chasing me for an eternity and on the next screen or so, I saw some weird skeleton thing walking about. I had taken out many a monster in the westersand at that point and I had yet to encounter that thing. Remember, I reset the desert so it wasn't storming. Anyways, I fought it, and it kicked my ass so I ran away like a bitch.
Awesome. I have lots to look forward to later. :D
I found a good place to get loot/lp/chains, and that's the Lhusu Mines near the very end where you fight nothing but skeletons. I turned gambits on and got me about 122 chains before I thought I had enough loot and lp. Took a good 45 minutes or so. Gambits are pretty useful when it comes to grinding. I sold the Bone Fragments and other stuff, and ended up with 22k Gil.
Bought some Ringmail in Rabanestre which should last me a while. I've got everyone a Mist Quickening. They're all now on their way to learning their second Mist ability.
I think I'm about prepared for Raithwall now. I'm leveling up underleveled characters (Vaan, Penelo, Ashe) to about 16 or so before I continue.
-
Just give everyone Quickenings, you can beat bosses in under 5 minutes
Have the first 3 use their quickenings, get a nice chain, then replace with the other 3 and use their quickenings
Should have at least 3/4 its health gone within the first few minutes
FFXII is brooooooooooken

This doesn't work for the entire game, but you can juggle it effectively to do pretty well...don't replace everyone at once. Just bring in one at a time and hope for a Mist charge.
Hi Himu, good to see you plugging away.

I dled the ost and I'm not so keen on it. I love the music that's played in game, but the music on the ost is so off.

It's the other way around. ;)
At least it should be. The OST is what Sakimoto composed, the in-game music is what the sound engineer "managed" to do considering the PS2 hardware.
It is weird adjusting (to the extent where you feel sort of a distaste for the OST), but I think the instrumentation is definitely better.
-
God DAMN I forgot how AGONIZING the trip to Raithwall is. *cries*
-
The gambits are the best part of the game, as far as I'm concerned. It's like Carnage Heart: The RPG. I just wish they'd give you more of them, earlier, to avoid some of the tedium.
It's too bad most of the game is a hiking simulator. I was all for the MMO influence before the game came out, but all those vast expanses of wilderness are so, so dull. And I liked Morrowind.
