:bow
I'm also going to treat him to dinner! <3 my father. :-[
-
My half-sister and I got our Dad a really nice hammock, we're BBQing for him, and I'm going to pick up a box of butterscotch Dilly Bars from Dairy Queen for him.
My wife and I got her dad a $30 Barnes and Noble gift card and a handmade stuffed T-bone.
-
Not knowing my dad, I get a free pass. Woo!
I refuse to acknowledge my step-dad as "Dad" (even though I did just say step-dad) -- I call him by his first name, and only that.
-
Demi, do you dislike your step dad or is it just awkward because he's not your blood father? :(
-
Both
-
Well, don't most step-sons call their step-dads by their first name? AT LEAST THATS WHAT MOVIES TAUGHT ME!
-
Roots lol
-
Roots lol
What.

No, most family friendly sitcoms and movies are supposed to teach you that the "hole" left behind from your real father big and its difficult to fill and replace, but eventually you cope and learn to work together to make the family bond stronger and live happily ever after.
Then we entered the year 2007.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to own roots. If he wants to see Levar buy him Reading Rainbow boxsets and save him the trouble.

Great example of a WHITE family, the basis of said sitcoms and movies. Now show me a black example!

I can't at all, dude. Trying to come up with black sit coms of divorced couples and step fathers/mothers is impossible. The only thing that comes close is Sister Sister and the mom/dad in there didn't even hook up. On black sit coms, it always features a single parent household if not a happy loving family that has never experienced divorce.
And then there's Moesha, where the father cheated on the mother. If I remember they got a divorce.

Neither are you, who says The Brady Bunch as the first thing to come to mind?
-
nothing! both my father-in-law and my own dad, like me, hate ceremony -- we've always rejected father's day as a DAY 4 BITCHES.
-
I havent talked to my dad in 4 years, I think I will continue with that tradition!
-
My dad is the worst person in the world to shop for. No idea what I'm going to get him. :(
-
I want to see my dad. I miss him. I will probably give him a call to wish him a happy father's day. And thinking about the holiday makes me miss my late grandfather too. :'(
-
himuro, roots is shitty propaganda.
-
Indiana Jones boxset. I actually bought it months ago used from Gamestop; it's in great condition. I originally got it from Walmart but it was fucked up, so I used my Edge card at GS.
Roots is cool, but I wouldn't buy that for a black man. I might get it for a white guy just to ruin his week.
-
Roots is pretty damn powerful stuff. It sure changed my opinion on the whole "slavery" thing.
-
Wait, what?
-
I think it was pretty effective in doing what it set out to achieve.
-
Well I suppose it was the first time people were able to see slavery presented as it was, in its full raw nature. Just 40 years ago slavery and similar subjects weren't discussed in public schools across the country, so I can only imagine the shock when people sat down and watched Roots.
-
roots is emotionally manipulative drivel
-
Emotionally manipulative drivel? It's about fucking slavery.

wah wah wah
-
Whatever dude, there's no way to take emotion out of slavery. Hundreds of years of famlies bred like animals?
-
i get horny when i watch roots. but then again, i'm into bondage. does that count as an emotion? :hyper

Because Brady represents the whole LOLZ DIVORCE AIN'T A BIG DEAL type of story in entertainment. There are few if any black shows that treat divorce and step parents like this.
-
i'm not gonna be at home on sunday so he's gonna just have to be content with a phone call

Not to menton it helped promote a new era of geneology. I'll admit Alex Haley is a queef, but I love the story anyways.

What's wrong with giving a black person Roots?
Most kids these days don't know wtf Roots is. It belongs in every Afro American family household.
