I'm currently drinking an A&W root beer and it is pretty good, but I can't help thinking that there might be a better root beer out there.
-
IBC an d Barqs are my favorite. I love Root Beer floats.

Now we're talkin'. A shame it's not very common in the stores here. A&W is my preference when I drink the "cheap stuff", as Barq's has a slightly odd taste to me. I tried Vons' generic shit once, and I wanted to vomit. There was some flavor in it that tasted like Simple Green smells. :-X

I came in to say A and W :'(
Barqs is my next favorite, though I haven't seen it around in a long time.
Edit: Error Macro might have the the best all around taste of anyone here! Seriously everything he likes is good.

MUG and A&W are good, not a fan of Barq's... tastes a little too watered-down. You can't beat IBC or Stewart's either, although they are a little pricey.
-
In terms of wide availability, IBC and Stewart's are good choices.
-
I love IBC, but I can never tell if it is because the root beer is better or if I just prefer drinking it out of a glass bottle to an aluminum can.

IBC and DAD'S

You can get a 6-pack of IBC for $2 around here. Best bang for your buck.
