Post by: MrAngryFace on June 17, 2007, 11:24:25 PM

I'm trying to imagine Disney making Perfect Blue.  They'd make the pop idol's goldfish into talking sidekicks, I bet.

Haha. Perfect Blue was really good, its amazing how well he shifts scenes. I mean its something I would consider complicated but all three movies above do it with so little effort and its still done so well.

Get off your high horse, chico. I'm buying you Unforgiven for Christmas, faggo.

I think you mean Oshii.  Oishii means "delicious" in japanese.  :lol

I hate everything he's done outside of Patlabor, though.  He just doesn't have the humanist touch required to make you care about the characters in his films.

I tried to watch Paprika but I was dozing off at the restaurant scene.

Anyway this is an unfair comparison since Disney is for the children, or family friendly whatever.
I want to see Brad Bird make something more geared toward the adult market, that would be awesome.

lol maf

i found tenchi universe at best buy the other day when i picked up roots for my father man. i saw they had tenchi muyo! (the ova) or something, but they had volume..3 instead of a big boxset. I was gonna get that, then I saw Tenchi Universe, which is like the next best thing.

you like tenchi?

I don't hate Tenchi, but I don't like it, either. Never could get into the harem stuff.

Tenchi is one of the few "harem" anime I've ever liked, and it never really feels like a real harem show. There's little fan service at all.

Tenchi Universe is probably the least fanservice-y of them all. It actually was a lot more fun because of it and sorta reminded me of Slayers in a way. Wacky ensemble cast in wacky adventures.

Im glad publishers are coming around to the older anime again. FLCL, Slayers, Irresponsible Captain Tylor, are all getting proper releases on DVD to make up for the rush releases they got years ago.
Title: Re: Satoshi Kon > Disney
Post by: Himu on June 18, 2007, 04:06:12 PM
Haha. Really? I own FLCL on dvd. It wasn't a rush job at all. They were actually really good dvds. I know some can't justify the 30 dollars for 2 eps for a 6 ep series thing, but it was worth it, and I got it all for like 20 dollars a disc.

Tyler is getting proper dvd release? What was wrong with the original release?

Old anime :bow

[NERD MODE]Old? Really? That shit's not even close to being old.

Let's see some good old Space Pirate Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999, Space Runaway Ideon, Mobile Suit ZZ Gundam, etc. get released over here![/NERD MODE]

Captain Harlock and Galaxy Express 999 <3

You didnt see the latest Tylor releases? By rushed releases I mean video quickly thrown on DVD with no aim to remaster or anything. (ie slayers :( )

The Tylor box sets are omg nice. I just have the OVA one, I have the original dvds for the tv series. The FLCL bonuses with the ultimate set are nice :)

60 or so, its cheaper to find the old dvds used if you can. The Tyler sets are just so well done tho. Nice n small  tasteful. FLCL has a book that has a portion of the manga and other fun fact crap in it, some post cards,  blah blah usual. What is nice is the 4th DVD that has custom music videos created with clips from the show with some of the better songs. There may be more im not sure. Plus the packaging looks awesome ;-)

Bebop is one of Bandai's cash cows, it's still full price after being out on DVD for almost eight years now.

Trigun is part of Geneon's budget line now, so it can't be too much.

Join the Columbia House DVD club and get all of Samurai Champloo for like $12. That's what I did last year.
