Daily suggested is crap. What caloric value does the human body require to avoid shifting into starvation mode, which saves up fat and eats at muscle. Does it differ by weight?

Everyone's is different, depending on sex, weight, age, height, and how much of a lazy bastard you are. 2000 is the generic number thrown out, but a sedentary 60 year old woman doesn't need that much, and an 18 year old male who plays sports and is really active and still growing needs a hell of a lot more.
In conclusion: who the fuck really knows on an individual basis.

I think the maintance weight is like Your Weightx13=Caloric Intake needed to stay where you are. The human body, on average, gobbles up like 1600 calories just doing it's thang. Feel free to call me out on that

Yeah I have a desk job and I dont move a WHOLE lot but I still walk a bit, the usual. Thing is i've got NOTHING in my house cept a small bag of carrots and a bottle of brandy and scotch. I mean I dont snack period. Trying to figure out why its such a battle.
Even when I worked at Staples and walked 8-10 hours a day and lifted and stocked, and ran sometimes it was still something I had to seriously watch. I wonder if all the work at staples conditioned by body to think of that level of work as nothing and fucked me up long term now that i sit on my ass all day.

What those calories are coming from matter too. I mean, you could be eating an exact 2000 a day, and that may be perfect for you, but if its all coming from fats and carbs, its not gonna help.

It's cliche, but every body is different. People can eat like shit their entire lives and never get heavier. For others, even a small change in lifestyle can mean an extra 20 pounds in a few years. Plus, that whole "slower metabolism" thing that hits most people around the age of 26-30.
All you can really do is experiment with your own body to see what works.

I feel you with the desk job, I packed on some pounds after I first started working here and I've taken a few off but I need to use that elliptical and ab lounge to get toned fo mah ho. :-* and so I can send Mupupu sexy stomach pics rawr :hump

I assume it also depends on what kind of calories. What do you normally eat groo? I drink a lot of water so I dont think thats the problem even IF the scotch counters it a bit ;)
I cant gain weight because I literally gain it all around the waist.

man I wish I could eat carbs wtf. I eat just a few and its all over. I do best when im just eating eggs and jerky but I can only do about 2 weeks of that.
