Title: Satellite Radio rox
Post by: MrAngryFace on June 24, 2007, 02:40:57 AM
Sirius won by subscription when the local Fred Meyer clearanced all their satellite radio kits. I got the S50 Sirius car kit for 100 bux OMG. Its nice having so many commercial free choices :)
Plus I get the internet feed via subscription. Kinda wish Sirius had the Starbucks channel but thats XML :(

I'd say hasta luego to the government because there's nothing but Stern on Sirus.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
I don't know what I'm talking about. Hasta luego sounds sexy. What does it mean?

My opinion is why the fuck not let them merge. Its not a market that is competitive enough to suffer from a monopoly. Radio is radio. Wtf. I mean worst case scenario is they start shoving on commercials, but Satellite has ALWAYS been competing with standard radio so I dunno why they cant let Satellite camps team the fuck up.

probably lobbying. there's probably more money behind terrestrial radio than satellite.

I've been sirriusly (lool) thinking about getting Sirrius since since the local radio in Mass is atrocious. So just the physical radio costed you $100 MAF? Did you need to get it installed and stuff (which is usually expensive as fuck)? or can you do that yourself?

I've been a subscriber to XM since I bought my car, that came with the kit preinstalled (Nov 2004) and absolutely love it. I probably wouldn't get one if I didn't have to commute 45 min to-and-fro work tho.

My only experience was that it's just like having cable -- 100 channels and still nothing good seems to be on, most of the time. I'd rather just stick with an iPod really.
They have XM on airlines now though, and I appreciate that.

XM > Sirius
Opie & Anthony > Howard, content + listener base wise.

Both Opie and Howard suck
The unit + car kit is normally like 300 or so, I got it on clearance. Not sure how prices are normally in your area.

I've had Sirius for a year and a half. I love the content, but the equipment is a little sketchy. I've had one docking unit already shit on me and they had discontinued selling it. So, I had to pay a premium price for it on ebay.
I listen to Alt Nation, Backspin, Coffee House and sometimes Left of Center.
In the afternoons, there is a guy named Jay Thomas who does a talk show on "Sirius Stars" (Ch.102). He's pretty good.

I pretty much just listen to Alt Nation, Octane and Left of Center. Every once in a while I'll venture into the 90's pop station for shits and giggles.

That's Sirius's electronic dance music station, right? Just curious, do they broadcast any radio shows (like Armin Van Buuren's "A State Of Trance") on it?

Not so far from what I can tell. Most of the DJs are kinda tards on every station lol. Some lady was talking about underwear sticking to her at concerts on one station.

Hows it buggy? Just curious. I got it cheap so I wont be toooo bent outta shape if it craps out in a year. Is Maxim channel actually good? Whats on it.

I usually listen to Maxim at nights when nothing else is on music wise. Between the video game show and their night show, it's decent. Shade45 is the best channel actually. Faction is only good on Saturday nights when Cabbie is on the air.
Channel surf for a bit and you'll find some stuff you like. Just keep in mind that Sirius programs their music for the people who listens for 20 minutes on their way to work and not for the music lovers.

Thanks for the link!
From the threads it sounds like theres as many people with great units as bad ones. Course I won't use it outside of the car much I dont think, so problems with software upgrades probably won't come up either. Hardware issues with people that have broken units started at about a year it looks like so a year isnt too bad.
I got it for 100 bux, so again, not too worried :)
