I bought a decanter at a flea market this weekend for $.25. The thing is nice, but it's lacking a lid.
I don't have any other decanters to compare it to, so I need some stuff answered:
Do decanter lids usually fit snugly or loosely? This isn't a wine decanter, btw. It looks a bit like this: (http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/192/decantertaunton2hb6.jpg)
If the lids fit snugly, what material is usually used to keep them snug if not glass? I've got 2 lids that almost fit, but both leave room for a bit of air to escape, and I'm thinking I can coat them in wax or rubber or silicon or something or other. Alternatively, I can probably find a cork that'll fit this.
Speak up fellas.

I think you are looking for a particularly solid wax. In my experience, the lid fits snugly, but not as tight as a cork. Tight enough to keep the air out, but loose enough to be able to remove easily.

Shit, thats a nice decanter. Nice score bro

It probably depends what sort of alcohol you are going to be putting in there. I think I've seen both types of stoppers. I am by no means an expert on the subject though.
