I dunno, seemed kinda topical. (http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/tv/2007/06/why_does_the_gay_community_lov.html)
The organisers of this year's Pride London faced a bit of a dilemma. Everything was set for Saturday June 30, with acts booked ranging from Jimmy Sommerville to Dragonette. Yet they were fearful of poor attendance. Why?
Because the event clashed with the transmission of the final episode of Doctor Who.
Their solution was to screen the episode in Trafalgar Square (as a close to the day's events as possible) to ensure numbers stay high. But why go to such fuss? What is it about a family-friendly sci-fi show, prone to wobbly sets, which appeals so much to the gay community?

It all makes so much sense now.

Sliders > Doctor Who
-
lol, "sliders"
-
Quantum Leap > Doctor Who
-
But wait, wasn't Simon Pegg in Dr. Who?
-
Yep, cause he's a ghey
Nick > Simon
-
lol, "sliders"
demi is probably being sarcastic but sliders was fucking great. i used watch that show everytime.

Well fine but I thought you were reppin' Mr. Pegg as well as Mr. Frost. Because if Mr. Pegg is on Dr. Who, there could be a Mr. Frost cameo!

Hell yeah, Kari Wurhur (whatever) was in that, right? I rubbed a few out to her visage as a lad.
...it's funny to my immature, drug-addled mind that demi said "sliders" in a gay-ish thread
-
Kari Wuhrer :-*
edit: I remember her as the flat-chested girl on Remote Control. GD she's smoking sexy...done some good skinemax movies too :-*

Without reading the article, I think the new series has something of a following because the revival is headed by the dude that created Queer as Folk, and some of the issues that were addressed in that show (like, say, daddy issues) have also turned up in the Doctor Who revival. The new Who also introduced Captain Jack, who's bisexual, so I am sure that homos that tuned in for Russel T. Davies stuck around when tey gay game to town.
There's also the obvious--it's a pretty campy show. Kylie Minogue is going to be on the Christmas episode.
And the two new Doctors have each been fucking hot, too, which is, well, pretty much a first for Doctor Who.

I'm like 9/10 Frost and 1/10 Pegg

i don't even remember that happening anymore, lol. the only thing i remember from sliders was that episode where they ate this biscuit which would taste like anything there were thinking of.

I read it! I was just giving you my pre-read predictions.
That said, I don't think the article is really that correct. The whole screening of the series finale of Doctor Who at the festival? The show is a cultural phenomenon, no matter what festivals were going on, the organizers would probably be a bit concerned that The Big TV Show would put a damper on things. The article also does not mention that Captain Jack and Martha from the current series are going to be at the screening. Gee, I wonder if that also had anything to do with the decision.
As for the near-navel gazing that begins the article, yes, the Doctor has always been non-conformist, and "more likely to topple federations than join them," but come on? It would be nice to think that his non-conformism would attract a specific demographic, but the way the article puts it, you'd think homos were the only non-conformists on the planet. Non-conformism. . .yes we all know Doctor Who had an enormous impact on the punk rock movement, right?
-
You're gay and like Doctor Who. CASE CLOSED.

I wouldn't deny that there's a significant gay following, but this particular article doesn't really back up its case that well.

The bitch whore pig woman from Spaced is also in 2 episodes of Doctor Who. In a Last Temptation of Christ-esque sequence, he lays pipe and has kids with her, too. Nick Frost will never be on Who because NO FATTIES ALLOWED. Unless they are aliens.
SMH is Shaking Mah Head. As in he is tugging it.

Shaking my head.

Sliders was awesome. I thought the chick that was on before Kari Wuhrer was hot too. Actually, more cute than hot.

Sabrina Lloyd from Sports Night (and now numb3rs)? She's adorable. Well, Natalie Hurley was at least.
-
Sliders, fyi, is fucking awful. It is also much hated by the Doctor Who fanbase because the reason Doctor Who was not picked up as a series by Fox in the 90s was because Fox considered Sliders similar enough in concept that they couldn't justify paying for Who.

Sliders, fyi, is fucking awful.
Not gay enough?

Not enough homo for TVC to justify watching it, obviously. Doctor Who for fegs confirmed.
oh damn beaten to the punch
smh @ tvc

first three seasons of sliders are cheesy fun, much like most of doctor who pre-eccleston, nigra.

Doesn't change the fact that because of that shitty show, there was another full decade without the Doctor.

Why would anyone want to see Doctor Who run by Fox? Wasn't the Fox TV movie considered fairly awful to begin with?
And the two new Doctors have each been fucking hot, too, which is, well, pretty much a first for Doctor Who.
From the homosexual perspective, which Doctor is more attractive?

PD had a pretty compelling case.

The show would have been a joint BBC/Fox production, but yes, Fox passing on the show can be seen as a mixed blessing.
As for the quality of the movie. . .it's not bad. The worst part about it is that it had to cram in a bunch of exposition about the Doctor's history in order to cater to the US audience. This obviously would not have been a problem as an ongoing series. There were some changes to canon that rubbed fanboys the wrong way, but has the show ever been really good about keeping its mythology straight?
But, border, don't forget that Buffy was done by Fox studios, too (and production on this series would have begun right around the time Buffy was starting). Fox is enough of a wildcard that we can't venture a fair guess as to whether it would have been good or sucked.
And the two new Doctors have each been fucking hot, too, which is, well, pretty much a first for Doctor Who.

Depends what you like. I like Eccleston, but I think Tenant probably appeals to the pretty boys out there.

I thought Mutant Enemy was the production house for Buffy (with Fox only being involved because they retained rights from the film version).
Found this today, and thought I'd pass it along since you like the show and spend lots of money on clothes:

Excellent replica for Halloween, but understated enough that you could just wear it to work or for carousing about town.

Mutant Enemy was basically an imprint. It was on the Fox lot and it no longer exists.

:o
I *NEED* it! If only they had his new blue one, too (edit: wait, they kinda do, but I think it's a little too dark). I need his coat, also.
-
If you order, you might need to e-mail first and make sure they have the fabric with the pinstripes.
I'd buy a coat if I lived in a climate that really necessitated me wearing one, but otherwise nope.
There's also some Chinese sweatshop that makes replica outfits, with the coat included:
http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Doctor-Who-Wool-Coat-Cosplay-Costume-CustomMade_W0QQitemZ230144395301QQihZ013QQcategoryZ57988QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Of course they don't have any photos of finished product :\ For $100, I'm not sure if that means they're selling crap or if it just means it will be assembled by 5 year-olds (or both).
No luck finding a blue suit with maroon pinstripes....I suspect it'd be even more rare than a brown/blue suit.

I remember liking Sliders, but I don't remember much about it.

If distantmantra could find me a Doctor Who-related sex toy in one of Seattle's sex stores, I would really appreciate it.
