needs more loli maids and/or tentacles and/or goku-on-trunks fanart

basically, what it needs is the new forthcoming evilbore animu series, DOKI DOKI HIMUMU HINA: MAID PANIKKU! (it's about lonely black texas boy with tourette's who opens a maid bar with a hydra-penised satan monster and together they raperape the new employees while jerking it to dbz and shenmue hentai fanfic)

My anime is pretty loli free as most of it dates back to when japan liked women with big boobs (see Slayers movies/OVAs ie NAGA) but even then it was so absurd it was pretty clear they were making fun of it

Evangelion and Eureka 7 have almost nothing in common. Evangelion has more in common with Raxephon or whatever but I found that show boring so whatever.

Evangelion is a really interesting work and I have watched through all of it many times and it never really gets old. Most of the TV series could be chopped to 13 episodes if you remove all the 'shinji stares at field or telephone pole' scenes and it could still be as IMPACTFUL hah impactful..anyway on the flip side I can see how these scenes served a purpose as to isolate a lot of the character driven scenes to maybe in a way represent the reality of the relationship between all these people. Then again it could just be a kid staring at fields and telephone poles.

eureka 7 is pretty bad

Evangelion easily tops it and i haven't seen more then a few episodes of it.

"Hina" means "chick." It has the same double-meaning (young chicken, cute girl) in Japanese as it does in English.

Teh ANime

The Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Azumanga Daioh
GTO
Bubblegum Crisis
Ranma 1/2 (Mainly the movies and OVAs.  The TV show ranges from good to crap)
Riding Bean
Project A-Ko
Nin Nin Ga Shinobuden!
Ninja Scroll
The Dirty Pair (various OVAs)
Emma
Dragon Half
The Slayers

Teh MangaZ

Ranma 1/2
Azumanga Daioh
Yotsuba To!
Gunsmith Cats
Vagabound
Appleseed
GTO
Love Hina
Blade Of The Immortal
Caravan Kidd
Outlanders
Dragonball (yup; it's the TV series that drags on forever)

In general, I always find the original manga versions far better than the anime adaptions, but I like Azumanga Daioh more in animated form than I do as four-panel gag comics.  Nin Nin Ga Shinobuden is kind of the same way.  I've been into this stuff since 1990 or so when I first saw Akira, and so I think I may be forgetting some things.  I definitely prefer the stuff from the 1980s and 1990s over almost anything that's come out in this decade.  I really don't like the direction a lot stuff is going in, and I hate loli crap.  Give me over-inflated boobs any day.

I used to be so into Ranma it was INSANE.  My old room back home still has some Ranma posters and a huge Ranma 1995 calender (unused, I couldn't bring myself to tear the sheets off) hanging in it.  I had fanboy orgasms in late 1992 when the first VHS tape (dubbed!) with two episodes came out in English alongside the SNES Ranma 1/2 Hard Battle.

Caravan Kidd and Outlanders...loved 'em.  What happened to Johji Manabe?  All the guy does now is like furry porn or something.  Sad.

Stuff like Gurren Laggan won't be included because it's not finished yet.  I think that show is getting better now, but to me it went downhill after that certain major event and never recovered.

Watched the first whole Slayers series, the movie, and the first half of the second series and stopped there; I think this was during the time when there was a big switch to DVDs and I didn't want to keep getting it on VHS, and never did get around to replacing them all...

Slayers Next and Try are worth getting when Funimation releases the re-masters like theyre doing with the first series. The movies and OVAs are the weakest of the Slayers offerings but there ARE some choice Naga eps.

I'm really not trying to bag on Azumanga for no reason, just not my thing, apparently.

I do, however, really dig Kodomo no Omocha and Crayon Shin-chan for family friendly Japanese absurdity.

NO SHUT UP! OUTLAW STAR IS AWESOME.

My college roommate and I used to watch Outlaw Star during it's original late night run on Cartoon Network completely drunk. I think we made up a drinking game to go along with it, which might explain my fondness for it.

Samurai Champloo - i like the style and the characters, but the main story is a meandering nothingness and the whole thing feels directionless.

Finally! Somebody that agrees with me. Also, this series probably has the most overrated animu soundtrack in existence.

animu is the most generic of anime. shit with 8 year old girls that have double d tits and stuff or magical fairy princesses, or overly convoluated plots and other type of idiocy. But we call it animu here because we like the stereotype that all anime sucks and like to feed off of it.

"animu" as himuro indicates, revolves around the body of cliches -- especially the shallow, prurient ones like lolis, harems, and the "moe" phenomenon -- that comprise a very, very large portion of anime and its collective fandom. satoshi kon and hayao miyazaki productions are not animu; on the other hand, haruhi suzumiya, ai yori aoshi, bleach, fullmetal alchemist, lucky star, and all that other gaffer-hyped shite *is* animu.

I liked what little I've seen of FMA... The only anime I've really paid attention to and watched (aside from the Miyazaki movies which I really love) are Ranma 1/2, Saber Marionette J, Serial Experiments Lain, and of course Initial D. I'll be in animu hell* a bit more than 24 hours from now, thanks to my friend  ::) Let's see if I could make it out alive, preferably after scoring with some cute cosplay chick.

*on Otakon's site, the map of downtown Baltimore they have shows you hotels, drugstores/convenience stores, and sushi places... nuff said  ::)

one piece, despite its original theme and art direction, is still shonen animu fluff at the core. i really like it, but i'm also not gonna dare pretend i don't have a few animu tendencies with tvc and maf watching. my animu faggotry at least skews only towards the non-prurient content, though.
