PD in the european theater?! NO!

It's a videogame, I didn't think it would be THAT accurate. I expected a "save Einstein from the Nazis" mission where he gives you an atomic bomb out of his pocket after you accomplish the mission.

I doubt there will be nukes when the Pacific expansion comes around either.

The Canadians ARE in COH:OF though. They fought with the British 2nd Army near Caen, and took extraordinary losses in the campaign to take that city. One of the command choices for the British faction is "Canadian Artillery".

what if there are lurkers here who need their whole paycheck except for internet costs just to put food on their families?  this advice could drive them to starvation.  you need to be more responsible.

it takes willpower to be responsible.  you're asking them to expend precious willpower on not following your advice, willpower that might be needed for much more important things.  comfortable petty-bourgeois forumites may have a hard time noticing but we're in the midst of a worldwide willpower shortage atm, we need to conserve it, every little bit counts.

"opposing forces" sounds good though, both dialectical and confrontational.  but I'm not sure about "heroes".  does this endorse a great man theory of history?  wait though, "company of".  hmm.

I want to nab this, but I don't think I will get to play it anytime soon.  Been hitting up the giant TV too much.  Maybe when it hits Steam.

I, uh, haven't even installed WiC yet.  I got it when I was sick last week, and do to getting nauseous from looking at just about any display, I missed the initial "hype" window.  And also, Giant TV hasn't quite had me in the mood for PC games right now.

I actually dont like WiC too much, its too hardcore for me. I need slower. Its all so confusing!

The british are just awesome. I love how you are never really stationed anywhere for too long, and thats their strength, extreme flexibility and sappers that can create insane fortifications when you finally do find a temporary base of operation. The option to move your entire base close or further from the front, and the gliders, oh my god those are awesome and add a fantastic dynamic to the game I think.

You know what's cool? Sappers with the repair upgrade repairing tanks when you go British armor. You get a TON of extra HPs on your tanks and Fireflys are like mobile 17 pounder AT guns.

This sounds too complicated for a PC simpleton such as myself.  I think maybe I'll just stick to Civ4 and Halo.

It's actually one of the easier to pick up RTS games out there. It's got the same Civ-style 'great complexity embedded in simple things' design that is a hallmark of most good strategy games.

Some thoughts:

*) Skirmish AI hasn't improved much. Time to get a mod to help out I think.
*) New maps are a mixed bag. I really like some of the bigger team play maps, but a few of the new 1v1 maps are really wack (Best/Verriers Ridge especially) and some really chokepointy.
*) British really suffer in 1v1 on maps that aren't small and are a beast on 1v1 maps that are small. I find them almost unbeatable on Angoville, but easily smashed on Semois or Beux Lowlands because of the way that their fixed emplacements just chow down your popcap, and you simply cannot hold territory as the British without them.
*) British mobile AT is awful. Sappers with PIATs are terrible light armor counters compared to something like shreked gren/storm squads or airdropped US AT guns.
*) American rifles then rangers work well. I have done well with blobbing them up and reinforcing them in the field with a Quad halftrack (I needed the motor pool anyway for AT guns for heavy armor). Triage Center with new infantry model is a MUST.
*) PE is crazy, crazy powerful. I like using the mortar halftrack and the marders, they are nuts.

Skirmish AI fucking boggles at slit trenches. I can literally stop tank rushes cold by just slit trenching a choke point then putting a mortar emplacement a few paces back until I have the sappers for the 17 pounders. Ive found the most challenge is always in just taking out their main bases.

But yeah I agree on smaller maps and the brits. Panzer Elites get vehicles fuk fast and brits dont have a whole lot to counter that with, and the AI has a habit of spamming and leaking crap into the back lines, and with the unit cap dedicated to emplacements its fucking hard to deal with that backcountry stuff early on. If a brit can survive till the sappers are out they are pretty much set. However then it comes down to not using so much of your popcap securing territories that you cant take their final base.
