If I stood outside the Y for a day while nobody was voting, I'd probably be too busy being buttraped in jail on Tuesday to actually cast my ballot .
The Dems will win 36 House seats, including both of the Diaz-Balart brothers seats in south FL, Dave Reichert's seat in WA-08, Michelle Bachman's seat in Minnesota and John Shadegg's seat in AZ-03, which will take three days of careful counting to confirm.
I'm not sure I see McConnell losing either, but it's been a tricky race to poll or predict. I would intuitively think that Musgrove/Wicker would be closer but the amount of shady shit that Haley Barber and co. would do to win that race is not possible to estimate. I still have the Senate at 57-41-2 in the end.QuoteThe Dems will win 36 House seats, including both of the Diaz-Balart brothers seats in south FL, Dave Reichert's seat in WA-08, Michelle Bachman's seat in Minnesota and John Shadegg's seat in AZ-03, which will take three days of careful counting to confirm.
I'll actually agree with all of these picks.
I will be volunteering until 5:00 or so on election day, then heading home with takeout Thai food and SLAMMING the hard stuff to hit instant inebriation, staying there with a constant stream of Rodenbach Grand Cru and punting down a B-52 every time we win a "real" swing state (OH, FL, MO,NC,IN,MT,ND, NV).
I will be "working from home" the next day. :lol

If Obama wins then we have effectively turned control of our national defenses over to Code Pink. Our national treasury over to the Chicago mob. Our justice department to the Rainbow Coalition. Control of our elections to ACORN. Our national ministry of propaganda to HuffingtonPost, DailyKos and MoveOn (which admittedly would be an improvement over CNN/ABC/NBC/CBS/NYT/WP/AP, et al). The IRS to Charlie Rangel. Banking/Finance to Chris Dodd and Barney Frank. Housing to Tony Rezco. The new Global Warming Department to Al Gore. The State Department to Clinton, Inc. Education to NOW. The selection of our judges to the ACLU. Homeland Security to Bill Ayers.

Quote from: The Gotha Program3. "The emancipation of labor demands the promotion of the instruments of labor to the common property of society and the co-operative regulation of the total labor, with a fair distribution of the proceeds of labor.(...) What is "a fair distribution"?
Do not the bourgeois assert that the present-day distribution is "fair"? And is it not, in fact, the only "fair" distribution on the basis of the present-day mode of production? Are economic relations regulated by legal conceptions, or do not, on the contrary, legal relations arise out of economic ones? Have not also the socialist sectarians the most varied notions about "fair" distribution?
To understand what is implied in this connection by the phrase "fair distribution", we must take the first paragraph and this one together. The latter presupposes a society wherein the instruments of labor are common property and the total labor is co-operatively regulated, and from the first paragraph we learn that "the proceeds of labor belong undiminished with equal right to all members of society."
"To all members of society"? To those who do not work as well? What remains then of the "undiminished" proceeds of labor? Only to those members of society who work? What remains then of the "equal right" of all members of society? (...)
What we have to deal with here is a communist society, not as it has developed on its own foundations, but, on the contrary, just as it emerges from capitalist society; which is thus in every respect, economically, morally, and intellectually, still stamped with the birthmarks of the old society from whose womb it emerges. Accordingly, the individual producer receives back from society -- after the deductions have been made -- exactly what he gives to it. What he has given to it is his individual quantum of labor. For example, the social working day consists of the sum of the individual hours of work; the individual labor time of the individual producer is the part of the social working day contributed by him, his share in it. He receives a certificate from society that he has furnished such-and-such an amount of labor (after deducting his labor for the common funds); and with this certificate, he draws from the social stock of means of consumption as much as the same amount of labor cost. The same amount of labor which he has given to society in one form, he receives back in another. (...)
Hence, equal right here is still in principle -- bourgeois right, although principle and practice are no longer at loggerheads, while the exchange of equivalents in commodity exchange exists only on the average and not in the individual case. (...)
But one man is superior to another physically, or mentally, and supplies more labor in the same time, or can labor for a longer time; and labor, to serve as a measure, must be defined by its duration or intensity, otherwise it ceases to be a standard of measurement. This equal right is an unequal right for unequal labor. It recognizes no class differences, because everyone is only a worker like everyone else; but it tacitly recognizes unequal individual endowment, and thus productive capacity, as a natural privilege. It is, therefore, a right of inequality, in its content, like every right. Right, by its very nature, can consist only in the application of an equal standard; but unequal individuals (and they would not be different individuals if they were not unequal) are measurable only by an equal standard insofar as they are brought under an equal point of view, are taken from one definite side only -- for instance, in the present case, are regarded only as workers and nothing more is seen in them, everything else being ignored. Further, one worker is married, another is not; one has more children than another, and so on and so forth. Thus, with an equal performance of labor, and hence an equal in the social consumption fund, one will in fact receive more than another, one will be richer than another, and so on. To avoid all these defects, right, instead of being equal, would have to be unequal.
But these defects are inevitable in the first phase of communist society as it is when it has just emerged after prolonged birth pangs from capitalist society. Right can never be higher than the economic structure of society and its cultural development conditioned thereby.
In a higher phase of communist society, after the enslaving subordination of the individual to the division of labor, and therewith also the antithesis between mental and physical labor, has vanished; after labor has become not only a means of life but life's prime want; after the productive forces have also increased with the all-around development of the individual, and all the springs of co-operative wealth flow more abundantly -- only then then can the narrow horizon of bourgeois right be crossed in its entirety and society inscribe on its banners: From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs!
I have dealt more at length with the "undiminished" proceeds of labor, on the one hand, and with "equal right" and "fair distribution", on the other, in order to show what a crime it is to attempt, on the one hand, to force on our Party again, as dogmas, ideas which in a certain period had some meaning but have now become obsolete verbal rubbish, while again perverting, on the other, the realistic outlook, which it cost so much effort to instill into the Party but which has now taken root in it, by means of ideological nonsense about right and other trash so common among the democrats and French socialists.
Quite apart from the analysis so far given, it was in general a mistake to make a fuss about so-called distribution and put the principal stress on it.
Any distribution whatever of the means of consumption is only a consequence of the distribution of the conditions of production themselves. The latter distribution, however, is a feature of the mode of production itself. The capitalist mode of production, for example, rests on the fact that the material conditions of production are in the hands of nonworkers in the form of property in capital and land, while the masses are only owners of the personal condition of production, of labor power. If the elements of production are so distributed, then the present-day distribution of the means of consumption results automatically. If the material conditions of production are the co-operative property of the workers themselves, then there likewise results a distribution of the means of consumption different from the present one. Vulgar socialism (and from it in turn a section of the democrats) has taken over from the bourgeois economists the consideration and treatment of distribution as independent of the mode of production and hence the presentation of socialism as turning principally on distribution. After the real relation has long been made clear, why retrogress again?

His grandmother has been one of the greatest influences in his life probably more so than his mother. Personally for Obama it will be hard but it may play in voters minds as well.

I hope not. Will Madelyn Dunham’s Vote Count?
posted by Eli Sanders on November 3 at 5:17 PM
I was talking with a coworker earlier today about how sad it was for Barack Obama’s grandmother to have died on the day before Election Day. My coworker took the sadness one step further, wondering if Madelyn Dunham’s vote (she voted by early absentee ballot) would now not be counted.
Not knowing the answer, I called the Office of Elections in Hawaii. Kevin Cronin, chief election officer for the state, just got back to me. Here’s what he said:
Ms. Dunham’s absentee mail ballot was received and reviewed under the Hawaii standards for processing absentee mail ballots… She was alive at that time. Her ballot will be opened tomorrow, and it will be counted in the same way that all absentee voters would be treated under our law.
The key point appears to be that Ms. Dunham was alive at the time her absentee ballot was received and reviewed, and that it met the standards for review at that time.
Madelyn Dunham’s vote will count, even if she is not here to learn the final tally.

To hell with free cups of coffee, Dom. Babeland is passing out free sex toys to voters—and voters can claim their free sex toys anytime between tomorrow and November 11.
Stop by any brick and mortar store (New York or Seattle) between November 4th and 11th and bring your voter registration card, voting stub or word of honor. If you voted, we’ll give you a Silver Bullet or a Maverick Sleeve (get it?) for free! Yes, free. It’s because we value voting that much.
Go vote and okay, sure, go grab a cup of coffee. Then drop by Babeland for your free sex toy, head down to the Stranger's election night bash, celebrate (jinxy!) Obama's victory, and cap off your night by inviting a some new friends back to your place to try out your new sex toys...
Here's some real incentive to vote!!QuoteRe: Not Jittery Enough with Election Anxiety?

"Michelle Obama's voice choked with emotion during a campaign appearance in Colorado as she asked people to remember the woman her husband called "Toot," a version of the Hawaiian word for grandmother, tutu." Like Michelle really cared about this woman. Michelle's "tears" were tears of joy. She never had a relationship with this "white" woman."
"How convenient for Obama that his grandmother died. What timing. She was the one who said that she was there for his birth in Kenya. I guess she got in the way. Also, either I've been out of the loop or missed it somewhere down the way,but I wasn't aware that she had cancer. I thought that she fell a broke a hip. That's interesting. I guess that's how the Chicago mob takes care of those who speak against their Don."
"She was murdered to hide the truth."
"I ask you all - Log onto the Obama Blog Site - Sign up with whatever emails you can mek up and FLOOD THEM WITH OUR COMMENTS - I HAVE DONE THIS FOR 5 WEEKS NOW - TO SPREAD TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO ONE HAS EVER LIED LIED LIED THIS MUCH TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY LORD - SATAN IS UPON US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

Wonkette posted a little round-up of extremely sensitive reactions to Madelyn Dunham’s death from the Free Republic.
They’re all fucking bonkers, obviously:
Seriously, has anyone actually seen this woman in recent years? If Obama has some of his thugs guarding her (and if there is, indeed, a body) I hope they do an autopsy to make sure Granny’s passing was a natural event.
Murdered? It’s not murder when it’s for the chosen one. The dems will blame it on lack of universal health care and get a double bang for the buck. Obama will forgive her racism and find another family member to use and throw under the bus.
But I particularly like this one:
She was swindled into raising someone else’s child. I do not believe that hussein is half white.
Because what, exactly, is the scenario you’re envisioning here, right-wing insane person? That one day, way back when, Obama’s mother was out shopping, and grabbed a box of Frosted Mini-Wheats, and went home to pour herself a bowl, but instead of delicious cereal an all-black baby fell out? And then she said, “Hmm, I have found this all-black baby. What should I do with it? I know, I’ll play a trick on mom!” And then she did!? FOR 47 YEARS? I just don’t know if you’ve thought this theory through, is all.

McCain ran a horrific campaign which he compunded by picking Palin as his VP. I wish I could have voted for him, but he gave me no choice. May be a cop-out and that's fine. I don't really care. Take it as my doing a tiny little bit to punish the GOP and send a message that they need to get back to their conservative roots. I'd be lying if I said McCain's vote for Social Security for illegals didn't play a pretty big part.
I don't really think it mattered who was the GOP nominee. McCain probably was the best choice from an experience/C-in-C pespective, but there was little beyond that. And realistically, I don't think the re-incarnation of Ronald Reagan could win in this environment. The party needed a serious purge. Today will provide it. I just hope the religionist wing doesn't double down and take things further right. If Palin and Jindal are the top choices in the spring of '12, then they're in deep shit regardless of Obama's performance.
The problem with the republicans was their choices all felt like Bush 2.

Last election, there were 4 people at my polling station when I showed up shortly after opening; this year, there were 20 people in line by the time I arrived 20 minutes before opening, and probably 50-60 in line by the time I left. Soooo many people, turnout is going to be insaaaane.

They didn't have shit at my polling place. No stickers, pins, or even a print out. :maf
By the way, Obama gets more awesome points:
HE SUPPORTS A PLAYOFF IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL :D

I talked to a woman I worked with today. According to her, despite a 17 point Obama lead, Iowa is still in play.

What everyone has been overlooking is the fact that dogs don't like black people- just look at the Michael Vick saga. I expect the hitherto unpolled canine vote to break for McCain by about 9-1, giving him an easy win.
It is clearly a great civil injustice that dogs are not allowed to vote. Think of all the dogs in history. Are you telling me that you are more important than snoopy, old yeller or benji!!!
Seriously vote no on prop 12. Let all dogs be heard.
Why is Obama so loved anyways? For someone who hasn't payed attention to anything politics, why is he so great?

LOL. That sure worked for Jessie Jackson. SMH.
The term "welfare abortion," while technically meaningless, gets me going.
Seriously though, why is Obama loved? Everyones acting like he'll legalize Marijuana and give everyone free health care.
I still have no clue what half of these things are you guys are saying.
I just pray for free health care. As an uninsured American, Canada gets more and more attractive every day.
Also some kid today said that Obama wants to give illegal aliens tax breaks...Why don't you do your own research instead of relying on information second hand from a ''kid''?
Is that true?! Why do we want illegals here, when they should be shipped back to where they come from?
I still have no clue what half of these things are you guys are saying.

Have you thought about getting a job?

I like him because he makes republicans furious, and there is nothing funnier than a fat white man going apoplectic.

comment on her status so i can see her pic
I saw the same guy. He looked flamingly homosexual, so I naturally wanted to tell him that McCain Palin are against gay marriage.Precinct 5 in Kalamazoo, +2 votes to Obama (me and waifu). I saw a ton of young people there, so I would be willing to bet that my precinct goes to Obama.
I was Precinct 18. Not many young folk, but it was around 7:30am. i saw one dude on campus today with a mccain/palin shirt and i was smh.
Anyways, will you pretend to be me and do my accounting 311 exam at 8am tomorrow? Please ?
Does anyone really truly hate Buchanan? I never knew him as a politician, but as a pundit he's not so bad. Gives his fair share of praise to Obama

He ran on a racist platform, and before that he was a Nixon hitman, BUT I love his insight on politics. Plus he's a major opponent of neocon bullshit :bow
I put him in the same category as Bill-O. I disagree with him on so many fronts, but I can tolerate listening to him. I've really liked his few segments Rachel had with him.
I despise the man, but I would still take Buchanan over all the other conservative commentators.
O'Reilly is a piece of shit, and uninteresting, and worst of all, humorless.
i like olbermann, but he's only good for the bluster and catharsis. maddow's a MUCH better commentator.
Osama supports McCain so who knows
Yup, they think McCains foreign policy would help their efforts.

This view clip is crazy. How the fuck does this woman get paid to have an opinion?
Already looking bad for Obama.
ohn McCain's presidential campaign is making an 11th hour appeal to Cuban Americans in Florida with a robo-call that says Barack Obama would pursue "political policies like those of Cuba."
The automated Spanish-language telephone calls began late this afternoon into Cuban households, particularly in and around the southern part of the state, and quote a Reuters story that says former Cuban leader Fidel Castro prefers Obama win the presidency.
Is Green Man PR? he has a shitty, generic, gafesque posting style that it is impossible to tell.
Somebody ban PR, I can already tell he's gonna be annoying. He'll be like the one super Christian nutbar at a kegger or something all night long.Yes, please. I have no problems with PR, but he's getting a little crazy right now.
Nader now up 235-72 over Barr here in Kentucky, with the Consitutionalist guy only a couple dozen behind Barr in 5th.I bet :-*
NADER TAKES BRONZE!!!!
BTW, Indiana is tight as fuck right now.
PR and PD are doing the childish thing of, 'Oh McCain's going to win, so I'll be double happy when Obama wins even though all the polls indicate this all along!' ::)
CBC says Indian is 49 Mccain to 48, what ever that means. One day, Canadians will learn about percentages. One day.

Whose Mark Warner
Show me a post from me, in the last two months, that featured me saying McCain would definitely win. I'm just saying this isn't over till it's overFrom 2 months ago, no. But since the primaries this has been your attitude; Hillary should/will win, McCain should/will win etc.
My confidence level is at 0
No that's Kurt Warner, not Mark Muldur.

I don't have mIRC and I have no idea how to work it

Yeah, I noticed that too. Fox News called South Carolina for McCain but CNN has Obama winning. I don't get it. How do news stations call a certain state for a certain candidate? What are they basing it off of?

South Carolina is reliably pub at this point, if it didn't go for McCain it would be very, very odd.Probably if Obama isn't winning be a certain %, McCain will be likely to win the state by the end or something.

McCain currently has a double digit percentage lead in VA, with 23% in :(
You guys do realize that percentages dont matter until a large percentage of votes are counted. A lot of places are like 1% counted and omg huge percentages that dont matter!

Obama is going to win Indiana.
Georgia to McCain
103 - Obama
58 - McCain
At this point, this won't be a blowout. GA was one of those potential surprise Obama upsets that didn't pan out.
Obama's grandma is WHITE???
CNN looks like the only station not giving Obama the win in Pennsylvania. Remember 2000 - CNN's motto. :lol
Obama's lead in Florida down to 3%. Bummer.
God, I'm so worried that McCain will win, so worried.
Fuckkkkkkkkkk :-\
CBC has 103 to 69.
:-\ damn MSNBC's Live feed (still have him at 58), what did he win?
My middle aged white mother said Obama is a socialist jerk and that McCain was at a disadvantage because Obama is black.
Are you sure your mom wasn't talking basketball ???
How does voting for the senate seats work in the US? CNN has blue way a head. Each state has two senators, and the entire state votes on both. 60 senators is the magic number to completely dominate and force the republicans to make scat porn in exchange for any of there votes to pass.

So you vote for senators separably from president? Is that how CNN has more senator numbers than stats that have closed?

I just went to Target to pick up the new Futurama DVD, and a black guy saw my Obama shirt and reached out his hand for a high-five. I gave him one, and said "Pennsylvania!" He beamed and said "I just heard on the radio McCain saying he'll need a miracle to win at this point. I think God is on our side this time!" Then he gave me another high-five before going on with his shopping.spoiler (click to show/hide)owwwww fuck, my hand[close]

Heh, was listening in my car on CNN on XM... and they called it "CNN ELECTION NIG" because the name of the program got cut off.

WHO CARES ABOUT THAT, ALL I CARE ABOUT IS THE SENATE RACE

Can someone explain how these projections work? How do they determine the projected winner?
Oh, and lulz at the Republican "party"
the banner should say:

yeah, socialist acorn terrorism is pretty awesome
Do CA/OR/WA all close at 10 PM EST/7 PST? If so, there is a very real possibility this election will be officially called in about five minutes.

I tried watching some Fox News for the schadenfreude, but everything is so homely and Republican and creepy there. Shudder.
Fox called VA for Obama
Goodbye Palin. Goodbye Joe the Plumber.Yes Joe the Plumber fades away into obscurity.
My sister just called and asked me to post here for we Christians to pray and visualize a wall between Obama and the presidency that he cannot penetrate.
Please join with me as we visualize this impenatrable wall that will stop Obama while protecting us from the evil he represents.
Dear Father God,
We join together and are humbly pleading that you will protect us ,your children. Please separate Barak Obama from the POTUs by a supernatural wall that he cannot penetrate.
Let the wall that he cannot penetrate be a barrier of protection for we that belong to you and that are covered by the blood.
I pray that the precious blood of your Son Jesus cover this wall and not allow Obama to pass into the presidency.
We ask this is name of our Savior, Jesus Christ-
Amen and Amen

I hope not, because then it means he completely sold his soul just to have his name on the 2008 ticket. That's egotism and selfishness to the nth degree.
I hope Obama doesn't get assassinated.
It looks like Massachusetts passed a repeal of the state income tax. lol
forgive my political ignorance but is this considered a landslide?

this is awesome.
My favorite moment was Biden coming out with the music in the background, giving this look and gesture to Obama as if to say, "Holy shit, we did it! You crazy motherfucker, we did it!"
I half expected them to jump in the air and high five - then freeze frame and fade to black.
SACRIFICE AND SERVICE, BITCHES! No more what did you buy today threads, more who did you help today threads! ;)
in truth i like obama very little when he's in full southern preacher oratorical mode -- i much prefer his self-possesion in the debatesI'd rather have a competent president over a funny one any day. Bush was pretty humorous. If I want funny I'd go listen to some Chris Rock tapes.
NOW THAT ALL THAT'S OVER, i wonder if i can accommodate a liking for an american president. i liked clinton, but he was essentially a comic figure -- the unctuous hypocrite and lecher, biting his lower lip and sticking out his thumb. whatever obama is, he isn't funny

Now comes the hard part. I hope he can fix this shit.
TIME FOR A NEW EVILBORE BANNER
Tonight was kind of crazy. I was just getting out of a Deerhunter show in DC when the media outlets began declaring Obama the victor and the streets were going wild. Police were blocking off sections of the street where people were celebrating, people were firing rockets out of their windows, everyone cheering. Total madness.
And then my car caught on fire on the highway.

Wait, the distinguished black fellows rioted because Obama won? :wtf
.
What won this election was the packaging skills of David Axelrod, the swooning complicity of the media, the ruthless opportunism of Barack Obama, and the unprincipled thuggishness of his supporters.
dino rossi gettin' spanked. i have no love for chris gregoire, but MAN i like seein' the state put their boot in rossi's face.

Is it completely decriminalized, or do you still get a ticket and have to pay a fine if you're caught with it?

I believe you get a ticket and pay a $100 per (forget the exact amount) of Marijuana. No jail time though.
This election kind of sucks aside from Obama winning and Liddy Dole losing.
-Prop 8 passes
-Alaska seems ok with sending Senator "Convicted Felon" Tubes back to the Senate just to see him get booted
-Michelle Bachmann, the odious Diaz-Balart brothers and all assorted other gross Congress critters got sent back
-Looks like Obama's not gonna have much in the way of coat tails- Senate races in OR and MN are too close to call but trending to the Republicans.
You will also now be able to get a lethal prescription (doctor assisted suicide) in Washington.
One step closer to complete Swissification.
They need to do this to DMT and other natural extracts. Though, that shit blows you away. It's not like you'll jump in your car and drive around on DMT though.
I believe DMT is a Schedule 1 drug too :'(

I was right, something funky DID happen with the black voters this election. I just had no idea it was going to be on a non-presidential thing. My guess is that this being the first election where a black person could win, most black voters were very anxious and voted completely on their fears for every other issue on the ballot. The good thing is that they won't be like this in 2 or 4 years when this proposition comes up again and then I think gay marriage will be permanent in California.
I'm still going to now go into every election expecting some sort of socially disastrous thing to happen.
Something that Nate Silver could never, ever predict.
For all the ink and money spilled on McCain's hopes of making inroads into the Jewish vote, exit polls suggest Obama won the demographic by a margin even higher than John Kerry's, and like Al Gore's and Bill Clinton's.
The exits currently have it at 78 percent to 21 percent.
Brooklyn was INSANE. Fireworks! There was a crowd of like 300+ people at Bedford chanting and hugging and kissing. It was like the end of some war movie wherein we finally repeled the aliens or whatever. Then the cops came in riot gear and started roughing people up, but who cares! It was awesome

Say hello to Senator Sarah Palin!
which campaign ideal are you hoping becomes a reality?
my own dream is the whole universal health care thing.
And on the foreign policy side...common sense, common sense. That's what we'll get
Politics becomes interesting again. For eight long years, the country has been run by hateful, blinkered people. During this time, and especially over the last four years, politics has only been interesting because it involves issues vital to our lives and often to the fate of humanity. What’s been largely missing is a sense that an intelligent contribution to political discourse could ever have a meaningful impact on the people who actually make decisions. For all the disagreements among Obama supporters, I think that there’s going to be a real, and extremely refreshing sense, that political debate is an area in which intelligent, well-argued, evidence-backed contributions might conceivably sway reasonable people in positions in power. A lot of very smart people all over the country are going to find that wildly exhilarating. There’s an incredible amount of pent up energy, enthusiasm and ideas out there. May it make a difference.
-- McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/05/obama-we-cant-solve-globa_n_141358.html
I'm not expecting too much.
- Obama's tax plan will get watered down so it can pass. Lower and middle class families will get less relief and the upper class will have their tax increases reduced.
- Due to the massive deficits, I wouldn't expect huge amounts of money to go towards technology until we're on track to have a surplus. He might in the second term.
- No nationalized health care in either terms. There will be talk of it but not a lot of action.
- Foreign policy won't be much different. It isn't like either McCain or Obama can afford the wars for too much longer anyway. To prove that he is tough, I will expect toned down forms of sabre rattling but not even close to the extent of Bush.
The only thing I really want is a concrete plan to start paying off the massive national debt. No sense paying $300+ billion on interest.
True but the republicans in the senate/house are gonna throw a bitch-fest over the tax increases on rich folk. We haven't heard the last of the socialism bullshitI don't know about that. Obama's campaign is paradigm shifting in that it proved that you don't need to rely on the rich elite (although having supporters such as Buffet help) for cash. He tapped the Internet and reached out to the everyman and hauled in record amounts. If the republicans are smart they will copy that strategy, become more centrist, and will do less to please the rich.
We also have one of the worst first ladys ever coming into office. She is a bigot and should be dropped from all attention forever.
So you might say then that Obama will compromise with the Republicans and alter his tax plan?

I thought you'd be grown up about losing lol
I dont know why anyone in this thread is pretending the republican part, as it currently stands, has any real power anymore. There needs to be change on their end.For starters, they could start actually being fiscally conservative and support a less interventionist foreign policy, two things which have historically been their strongest points.
I know, she is going to run this country into the ground ::)I thought you'd be grown up about losing lol
I'm excited for Obama, but not the first lady.
The more positive campaign actually won this time too. Hopefully this will be a continuing trend.

No, I dont think he could get away with that, as it was the centerpiece of his campaign. Republicans also know that backing McCain policy isnt exactly popular with the people that will ever get them into office either.

The GOP will keep being negative for some time.I think it's pretty telling how out of touch the party is when McCain supporters booed the mentioning of Obama at his concession speech last night, while literally 2/3 of the U.S. and most of the world (cept Russia) rejoices over his election. Not to mention resorting to perpetuating racial ignorance and hate concerning Obama's ethnicity and his patriotism.

One Nebraska electoral vote remains up for grabs
BY ROBYNN TYSVER
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER
Democrat Barack Obama won the presidency Tuesday, but the question of whether he scored an electoral vote in Nebraska remained up in the air.
And it could remain unanswered for a week.
Obama and Republican John McCain were locked in a virtual tug-of-war in the Omaha-based 2nd Congressional District, with the election too close to call.
At the end of the evening, McCain led Obama by 569 votes in unofficial returns.
But more than 9,000 early votes and provisional ballots were still to be counted, said David Phipps, Douglas County election commissioner. Those ballots - some of them won't be counted until next week - could decide the race in Omaha.
"This is very, very exciting. I think it's interesting, indeed," said former Omaha Mayor Hal Daub, who was McCain's state director in Omaha.
McCain won the popular vote statewide, but both Democrats and Republicans hailed the tight 2nd District contest as a good sign.
Republicans said it was an example of the Nebraska GOP being able to "weather the storm" in a difficult political climate. Democrats said it showed that their party had become energized by Obama's presidential campaign.
It assuredly will be a race for the record books.
The fact that Obama even campaigned in Nebraska - a traditional GOP stronghold - will be remembered for years. It already has altered the region's political landscape, serving as a big ego boost to Democrats.
The last time a Democratic presidential candidate won an electoral vote in Nebraska was in 1964, when Lyndon B. Johnson rolled past Barry Goldwater in a statewide landslide.
In 2004, President Bush won the 2nd District with 59 percent of the vote.
It was the first time that a single electoral vote in Nebraska had been contested since the state adopted a split-electoral system in 1991. Nebraska and Maine are the only states that have scrapped the winner-take-all system. (Maine's electoral votes were not split Tuesday.)
In Nebraska, three electoral votes are awarded based on the popular vote in each of the state's congressional districts. The final two go to the candidate who wins the statewide vote.
Tuesday's tight race was a testament to Obama's strong presence in the 2nd District. He opened three offices in Omaha and employed 16 people. He drew scores of volunteers, many of whom flocked to his offices each day to man the telephone banks or walk neighborhoods across the city.
"It's been a terrific year. God love the Obama people for coming into Nebraska. The Democratic Party has exploded in numbers because of this year's politics," said Steve Achelpohl, chairman of the Nebraska Democratic Party.
The Obama campaign not only energized the party's base, but it also brought hundreds of new voters and volunteers into the system.
For the first time in 14 years, registered Democrats now outnumber Republicans in Douglas County.
Republicans said the tight race was a good reminder that they could not take Nebraska for granted. They also said, however, that it underscored their efficient get-out-the-vote machine.
Obama spent money and resources in Omaha, while McCain did not.
Still, McCain kept it close, even though Republicans have lost registered voters in the district, said Mark Quandahl, chairman of the Nebraska Republican Party.
"In politics, it's not only registered voters, it is getting them out to vote," Quandahl said.
Obama first gave notice that he planned to compete in Omaha shortly after he sewed up the nomination. He had won the Nebraska Democratic Party's caucuses in February with 68 percent of the vote.
Nebraska was part of his plan to expand the Democrats' electoral map. Obama said he intended to compete in states and regions where previous Democratic presidential candidates never ventured.
The 2nd District was part of that new map.
McCain never followed suit. Instead, he relied solely on the Nebraska Republican Party to identify his supporters and urge them to vote. His running mate, Sarah Palin, did make an appearance in Omaha.
Several Republicans insiders said the philosophy within the McCain camp was that their time and resources were better spent in battleground states.
And if they couldn't keep Nebraska firmly in the GOP column, then McCain had little chance of winning the national election.
"
There is still hope. While I absolutely do not approve of assination, there is a good chance of someone trying it before he is sworn in or shortly after.
Also don't forget the challenges to his citizenship. I doubt that the people pressing that issue will slack off now. Rather, I expect them to redouble their efforts before the innauguration.
Does anyone know what the required action will be if Obama is assinated before he is sworn in? Also what does election law, or the constitution, say about the way to handle it if he is shown to be inneligible for the office? Does the succession rule that would give the presidency to Biden apply before Obama is sworn in or would we need a new election? Or a possible third scenario of McCain, with the second highest vote tally, being declared the winner instead? "

But honestly? Last night was just incredible. When they called the election and showed shots of the Chicago crowd--people literally breaking down and crying--oh man, it was just fantastic.

Black people are the most religious race in this country; it's no surprise the community houses so much homophobia. This was going to happen regardless of Obama's presenceThere's no way that religion alone could be responsible for this. I mean, we have a lot of catholics as warcock pointed out yet they weren't nearly as homophobic. I'm guessing that homophobic black voters will drop below 60% by the next election.
Great day for America!!!PATEL INCOMING
Election of Obama and the passing of Prop 8 !!!

The religious aspect plus I think there's a stigma about homosexuality within the community, especially among black males.(http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/omar-the-wire.jpg)
eh, why should I bother getting mad at homophobes
history, culture, and demographics is on the side of right
am I pissed Prop 8 passed? of course. but it's just another finger in the dike of history. and one day, that dike is going to squirt all over homophobes, drenching them in the pure waters of freedom
I'm in favor of this whole "fingers in dikes" thing!

:drudge Rahm Emanuel Chief of Staff confirmed :drudge
Muslim person who believes in the development and protection of a Jewish nation Tag Team Tsunamiii :interracial
Friends and enemies agree that the key to Emanuel's success is his legendary intensity. There's the story about the time he sent a rotting fish to a pollster who had angered him. There's the story about how his right middle finger was blown off by a Syrian tank when he was in the Israeli army. And there's the story of how, the night after Clinton was elected, Emanuel was so angry at the president's enemies that he stood up at a celebratory dinner with colleagues from the campaign, grabbed a steak knife and began rattling off a list of betrayers, shouting "Dead! . . . Dead! . . . Dead!" and plunging the knife into the table after every name. "When he was done, the table looked like a lunar landscape," one campaign veteran recalls. "It was like something out of The Godfather. But that's Rahm for you."http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/8091986/the_enforcer/
Of the three stories, only the second is a myth -- Emanuel lost the finger to a meat slicer as a teenager and never served in the Israeli army. But it's a measure of his considerable reputation as the enforcer in Clinton's White House that so many people believe it to be true. You don't earn the nickname "Rahmbo" being timid.
are Obama's books worth reading?
Hey Shat Pack!
Dino Rossi is about to concede.
Although polls going into the final weeks of October showed Sen. Obama in the lead, it remained unclear whether the failing economy, dilapidated housing market, crumbling national infrastructure, health care crisis, energy crisis, and five-year-long disastrous war in Iraq had made the nation crappy enough to rise above 300 years of racial prejudice and make lasting change.
"Today the American people have made their voices heard, and they have said, 'Things are finally as terrible as we're willing to tolerate," said Obama, addressing a crowd of unemployed, uninsured, and debt-ridden supporters. "To elect a black man, in this country, and at this time—these last eight years must have really broken you."
Added Obama, "It's a great day for our nation."
PD posted that on the last page.

The first decision Obama makes as president-elect is to chose as CoS the Chicago gangster who once threatened to kill Clinton’s enemies with a steak knife.
That, my friends, is change you can believe in.

Nothing wrong with that. What if he needs to Vince Foster someone, or have another relative murdered for sympathy if public opinion starts slipping?
Arkansas looks to be racism's ground zero. Also, consider that the black vote is pretty substantial in the South. That means whites in the Bible Belt were particularly turned off by the Democratic Party in 2008. I wish I knew why.
It's a shame that my mother turned into such a hater. What does she think of Palin's kids, two of whom are dropouts?
She thinks the whole thing is a racial sham and called Obama's kids undisciplined brats.

The Alaska governor has hinted in recent weeks at the possibility of running for president in 2012. But asked about her plans on Wednesday, she replied, "That sounds like years away."

I came here just to post that. Its so utterly ridiculous that its completely unbelievable.
That said, this is what I see to be the beginnings of a concerted effort from the powers that be to completely undercut her chances for 2012. Combine this with today's story about how her clothes spending was 10s of thousands of dollars more than reported and that it was like the "Wasilla hillbillies raiding Neiman Marcus", and you begin to see a pattern. That's just the stuff on day one. What more will come out in the following weeks?
I don't like the tactics, but am in full agreement it has to be done.
I think Gingrich is going to be a much bigger player than most believe right now.
Doesn't Newt have lotsa exploitable dirt in his closet?
Doesn't Newt have lotsa exploitable dirt in his closet?
Obama's election has completely nullified any and every piece of closet dirt from now until forever.
He wouldn't even survive the primaries. Even if he did have the ideas and the talk, one of the other candidates would bang the good ol' FAMILY VALUES drum and Gingrich would circle the drain.
man, SD pulling out mid 90s Rush Limbaugh boner fantasies is pretty awesome.
hopefully 2012 will bring us a new republican president who's white and smart and ready to mix it up:lol :lol

PS Newt's intellect and wonkishness are completely overrated. He's an idiot's image of a smart person.
-- McCain also was reluctant to use Obama's incendiary pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright as a campaign issue. He had set firm boundaries: no Jeremiah Wright; no attacking Michelle Obama; no attacking Obama for not serving in the military. McCain balked at an ad using images of children that suggested that Obama might not protect them from terrorism; Schmidt vetoed ads suggesting that Obama was soft on crime (no Willie Hortons); and before word even got to McCain, Schmidt and Salter scuttled a "celebrity" ad of Obama dancing with talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres (the sight of a black man dancing with a lesbian was deemed too provocative).
-- The debates unnerved both candidates. When he was preparing for the Democratic primary debates, Obama was recorded saying, "I don't consider this to be a good format for me, which makes me more cautious. I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, 'You know, this is a stupid question, but let me ... answer it.' You know, despite the nasty campaign, I find it difficult to stay upset with McCain. I can't really explain it. Actually, it probably has everything to do with Sarah Palin.him and huck are my most likeable of US politicians. yes, out of all politicians, save a few like the obvious obama, these two area really likeable to me. I wish they were my uncle(s).
