Loved the first one, hope they don't go open world with this.
Red Dead Redemption is the story of former outlaw John Marston and will take place at the turn of the 20th century when the "lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age."

I thought it was confirmed open world? Or maybe I'm just thinking it was confirmed on that Rockstar engine.
Never played Red Dead Revolver. Is it worth hunting down?
co-signed. I remember it being a pretty great rental but I didn't fall in love with it or anything. It was a fair bit better then Gun though.Never played Red Dead Revolver. Is it worth hunting down?
It's definitely B- gaming, but it has character and it's pretty fun. It has a few annoying levels, but I remember most of the annoying ones being pretty short. On the other hand, it's a few years old now, so who knows if it holds up.

I can't tell the difference from the Call of Juarez series.
Haven't played Strangers Wrath and I'm a big Oddworld fan.I forgot all about it since it came out. Damnnnnnn. I need to hunt down a copy.
Hmmm
Yeah, GUN was pretty fucking awesome outside of that bullshit boss fight at the end and since it doesn't look like we'll ever see another one, RDR is looking like a fine substitute.GUN is sadly underrated. The only thing I'd liked to have changed would be to put the towns further apart. In Red Dead Revolver, the town's a hub and each mission has its own map. Those were nice because they're not slaved to the Open World Game need to multipurpose any given piece of landscape, but also because the move to the new territory can /kinda/ imply additional distance between locales.

looks awesome but runs like ass. I really hope they smooth it out.
Probably a Gametrailers problem, most of their gameplay trailers suck ass.
Amazing,me like :drool

Hope we're not getting bullshot'ed, cause that looks absolutely gorgeous.
The saddest part of the above is that Red Dead Redemption (the game the entire studio is working on) is an organic disaster of the most epic proportions. The pain just might be worth it for everyone if the work was worldclass and they could proudly place it on their resumes as they walk away from that mess. Sadly, it is anything but, and Bitter is correct mismanagement up and down the Rockstar chain is the direct cause. Red Dead Revolver 2: Dead On Arrival.
:( I hope that's not entirely true. Even with all their problems the game is looking fucking brilliant, at least in the trailers. Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, and Just Cause 2 are all I really want or need right now.
Day 1Maybe they've got renaissance leftover herbs from Ezio, imported to New World via immigrant steamer.
Every video looks better and better. Hopefully they'll fix the atrocious enemy shooting. This isn't quake 3 in the ol' west.
Lets get real here. Considering the medicine of the time period, any even slight bullet wound could get infected so I highly doubt that anyone would run and gun like that.spoiler (click to show/hide):teehee[close]

Take Two has announced that Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption is now due for release on 18th May in the US and 21st May elsewhere - three weeks later than originally planned.
The publisher issued its Q1 financial results this evening and also noted that Grand Theft Auto IV has now sold over 15 million units worldwide, while BioShock 2 has shipped three million units.
Elsewhere there was confirmation that LA Noire, Mafia II, Max Payne 3 and Sid Meier's Civilization V are all due out in the company's fourth fiscal quarter - which ends 31st October 2010 - but the publisher noted that its guidance "reflects the potential movement of one of these titles into fiscal 2011".

I know it needs more time,but....Nooooo :'(
My greatest concern about this game is character control, shooting mechanics...tried to play TLAD recently and it feels like controlling Russian submarine...
Hopefully it will be better...if not i will have play GTAIV before RDR hits
what does it matter. you gonna pirate either one anyway.
Don't think it's the video. I'm just hoping it won't affecting aiming too bad. Everything else looks really good.
yeah, usually they make them look better in videos
Actually, the special edition comes with the scalp of one of the developers from the GUN 2 team.
Game looks like sex, hope it won't be another dissapointment like GTA4. Then again there is not cellphone so this might be good.

Game has regenerating health...gaf says so
Red Dead Redemption :bow2
Some more stuff I got from PAX today:
As your bounty goes up, you can expect to fight harder baddies similar to GTA's 6-star wanted rating system. One rep said you would eventually fight policemen combined with hunting dogs (but another rep said he hadn't heard of the dogs).
EVERY building has an interior.
From the pause menu, the Social Club option will keep you up to date on challenges, tournaments, and other stuff that the Social Club does (I don't know, never used it myself). He said it's Rockstar's most ambitious use of the Social Club in any of their games to date, all the way back to Table Tennis.
Guns feel appropriately powerful. Marston goes down in about 7 shots or less (regenerative health makes everything okay after about 10 seconds though), and enemies die from 1 or 2 shots. This is compensated by how slow the old guns fire and reload. Remember that fat fucking miner in the screenshots? There was one of them in the mansion in the demo. I killed him with a single pistol shot to the chest.
Riding your horse through cacti lowers its fatigue bar. So it's not just a "how often you can spur your horse" bar like the carrots in Zelda. It also acts as a makeshift health bar for your horse. (I'm kinda half-guessing on this one. the two reps seemed to disagree here)
Seth is basically Gollum.
Animations are pretty damn amazing. I watched another player get killed by being shot in the back. When he was killed, Marston dropped his pistol, arched his back, and grabbed the wound with a grimace before collapsing to the ground.
You can lasso a dog. You cannot lasso a dead, skinned dog.
When people die, they drop ammo from their gun that glints in the light. You can also loot bodies for supplies like tobacco and stuff. But don't activate the looting animation while there are still enemies around.
Buggggyyyyy. I'll cut them some slack because it's still an awesome game, but I managed to crash the game once during my 15-minute playthrough. There were several visible glitches with animations (crab walking) and weirder things (a little bit of teleporting).
You can lasso and hogtie other players in multiplayer.
Close-combat finishing moves are pretty brutal. This one dude stuffed a rifle under a guy's head and blew his brains out. I took a closer look and there was literally a huge hole blasted out of his head. It was kinda gross.
Dueling is another minigame similar to Revolver's. You still have to grab your pistol, "paint" the target, and kill him. Or something. I kinda forget how Revolver's system worked, except that it wasn't balanced for multiplayer. I don't know if dueling will be in Redemption's multiplayer.
I'm gonna lasso so many criminals :hyper
How you respond to these challenges affects how the world responds to you. Lending a helping hand boosts your fame, which in turn helps you throughout the campaign. And bolstering your honor also boosts your status. This means you’ll get lower prices in stores, less hassle from gangs, and friendlier treatment from law enforcement — to the extent that they’ll overlook the crimes you commit.
Gleefully slaughter all around you, though, and you’ll have a rougher time of it, as open criminalization attracts local lawmen. Though they’re easily outrun in the desert, your Wanted rating doesn’t fade the way it does in GTA: you have to pay the fine or clear it with a pardon letter — stolen, earned, or bought at one of the stores where you can fence any collected animal skins. Hides from wild creatures work better if you prefer, but nothing’s to stop you from scalping the contents of the local stables, guard dog and all — well, apart from the owner, who’ll come out and shoot you. And the police, who’ll hunt you after you kill him. Still, if you’re fast enough with your six-shooter (and you don a face-concealing bandana beforehand), you can sort all that out without racking up too much of a bounty.
Even the desert, which we’d worried would be little more than a boring wasteland, is packed with distractions. Predators — human and animal alike — wander around, needy locals flag you down for help, and distant smoke plumes signal campfires in the desert. Sit down at one and you’ll pick up the gossip, in a style akin to GTA’s radio stations. Our effort at socializing fared badly: the guests turned out to be cannibals and the bound-and-gagged lady turned out to be lunch. We’re promised less-hungry dinner guests in other encounters, though.
yeah, i know that, just commenting on how weird it is that i grew up knowing someone who was a teenager during that era (although i am sure it wasn't all that "wild")
“Will there be any difficulty setting options for Red Dead Redemption?” - received via Mouthoff
We want players of all skill levels to enjoy Red Dead Redemption. With that in mind, we’ve implemented levels of difficulty into the game that employ different types of auto-aiming. Casual mode gives you a full auto-aim system (and faster regenerating health). Normal mode features snap-to-target with precise aiming using the right stick. Expert mode implements free aim with no lock-on at all. First time we have done this in an open world game, so we will be interested to see what people think having played with each option.
So, hm, sounds like the Normal option is standard GTA IV aiming. It will be interesting to see how they marry that to the bullet-time, showdown-time, or whatever they're calling it for RDR.
FOX ADDS "GLEE" ENCORE, "RED DEAD REDEMPTION" SPECIAL
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX isn't done with "The Power of Madonna" just yet.
Network sources confirmed this morning last night's episode of "Glee" will rebroadcast this Friday at 9:00/8:00c. DVR viewers saw the last few minutes of said installment cut off as a result of "American Idol's" overrun.
Meanwhile, the network has booked "Red Dead Redemption," a half-hour animated film, for Saturday, May 15 at midnight/11:00c.
John Hillcoat ("The Road") helmed the special, which is based on the video game of the same name due to be released on May 18. Here's how developer Rockstar Games describes the release: "America, early 1900's. The era of the cowboy is coming to an end. When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is sent across the American frontier to help bring the rule of law. Experience intense gun battles, dramatic train robberies, bounty hunting and duels during a time of violent change. Red Dead Redemption is an epic battle for survival in a beautiful open world as John Marston struggles to bury his blood-stained past, one man at a time."
It replaces a repeat of "Brothers," which assumed the Saturday, midnight/11:00c slot this past weekend.
It hasn't been an easy five years, insiders admit, with several journeys down paths never finished. It's difficult to imagine the finished product being much bigger, however, as it takes at least 40 hours for a single person to complete and hundreds more for those who pursue optional challenges and play together online.
Because Red Dead Redemption takes place in desolate, rough country, integrating a hallmark trait of Rockstar's past games — the ability to chance upon interesting people and things to do — was a major challenge. "It would have been contrived to say ‘Here's another small town and another small town,' " said producer Steve Martin. "So we made the natural world alive with bears, coyotes, cougars and snakes. It gives you that sense of struggle against the wilderness."
As with all of Rockstar's open world games, Red Dead is divided into missions, specific tasks that advance the story in small chunks, such as earning a sheriff's trust by helping him bring in the local "most wanted." Marston is just as deadly with his rifle as GTA protagonists have been with semiautomatics. He doesn't, however, engage in any of their controversial sexual behavior. "I'm a married man," Marston says early in the game when told about available "female company.":yuck
"We have just over 500 characters who all have names, family members and jobs," said Josh Bass, head of art. "You can see a man at 7 a.m. in a Mexican market manning the chicken stand and at 6 p.m. he'll go over to the local pub.":hyper
"The morally ambiguous cowboy is the perfect protagonist for the style of game we make," observed Houser. "Sometimes you can be the hero, sometimes you can be the bad guy, and sometimes while you're deciding what to do, a bear comes out of nowhere and eats someone."

Random encounters with travelers aren’t the only extracurricular activities in the game. Red Dead has robust progression systems that track your prowess as a hunter, sharpshooter, survivalist, and treasure hunter. Each level tasks you with a specific goal. For example, to achieve a new rank as master hunter you may have to kill five wolves with your bowie knife (no small feat). Each new level features increasingly deadly animal targets – cougars, wild boars, and grizzly bears, to name a few. Sharpshooting, on the other hand, focuses on targeting more evasive animals like birds and rabbits.
Like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the countryside is filled with various types of flora. To increase your survivalist rank, you must collect specified amounts of each plant (which can also be traded in for cash at the general store). Treasure hunting is more involved; all you’re given is a drawing of a landmark that indicates where the treasure is buried, and it takes a keen eye to spot them in the wilderness. Most of the treasure is currency, but you’ll occasionally stumble upon weapons as well.
Cliffnotes:
- Only a few seconds of load time to start the game (so no picture slideshow like GTA)
- No noticeable hitches in framerate in seven hours of play time
- Only real loading comes from fast travel
- Very little pop-in despite the draw distance
- Very detailed texturing with smooth load-ins
- No two areas of the map are alike. Everything is unique.
- The game is generous with mid-mission checkpoints and if you fail you can restart from the last checkpoint
- Dying warps you to your nearest owned or rented property, and there is ample property to buy
- In your safehouse you can restock on ammo, sleep (which saves and fast forwards the game clock by six hours) and change clothes
- Robust clothing options, though nothing super specific like mixing and matching
- Can visit general stores, gun shops, clinics, the tailor and more.
- Can buy chewing tobacco, apples (to feed your horse), medicine (to heal yourself) and bandannas (to disguise yourself)
- Money is harder to come by than in GTA but its more useful
- Can sell items you find, along with animal skins
- Loads of sidequests to be discovered by simply exploring and living in the world with less repitition and more depth than you'd think
- The difficulty system is based on how much computer assistance you get in the aiming. The easiest difficulty is full lock on, the hardest is full free aim
- "This isn't just "GTA in the West", it's a genre-defining experience that utterly raises the bar for all open-world games to follow."

The running mechanic is interesting. You repeatedly hit the A button until you get to the speed you want, then keep it pressed. This works on the horse too, allowing you to reach an impressive gallop – though the beast's stamina wears down quickly, especially when you venture off the dirt tracks and onto rough country terrain. If you're riding with another character, once you've reached the same speed as their horse, you can lock in to a sort of cruise control mode, which allows you to relax and listen to the dialogue – lots of vital mission information is often rattled out en route to the next bloody showdown.
I started out small. A few drinks at the saloon and a bar fight later, I stumbled out into the night looking for some easy money. I ran into an old crazy lady begging me to help her find a man named Peter, but that seemed like too much work so I shot her and moved on. And just like that, my honor meter went down by five points. It would take a few dozen more bullets to innocents to gain some real notoriety, but if there is one thing that Red Dead Redemption has it is a lot of innocents to toy with.
Take, for instance, the sorts of things you can do with a lasso. You gain this little tool during a mission that teaches you the ins and outs of breaking a wild horse, but you can aim the rope ring at people, too. I went to the saloon and found a prostitute, hog-tied her and then slung her over my shoulder to take for a ride. She didn't take too kindly to this treatment, screaming out obscenities like, "There are other ways to a girl's heart, you ass!" along the way. I responded by leaving her on a train track.
he most fun comes thanks to the epic animations Red Dead Redemption produces. Shooting or knifing people and animals invariably results in hilarity. During my travels I did everything from uppercutting a cow with a bowie knife to killing so many lawmen as they entered a saloon that they were stumbling over their predecessor's body pile. You don't even have to kill anybody to have some fun. Just drawing your gun on an innocent walking down the road will startle them into a funny reaction. My favorite was a man sitting with his legs up on a table. When I trained my sights on him he fell over backwards into a piano.:whip
I'm gonna wait until the backlash before deciding whether to give this a shot. The way Rockstar got every review of GTAIV to be 10/10 put all Rockstar games on the "don't trust reviews" list.
i want to make offensive stereotype characters and kill people in multiplayer with them

Sounds like a modern day Ultima game. This has no PC version planned?
Man, I want to put a preorder down but after the whole GTA4 thing turned out I don't know which system to buy it for. I've been pretty much avoiding all RDR hype so I don't know anything regarding the differences, if there's any at all. Anyone heard anything about it? If it's just minor BS, I'll more than likely pick it up for the 360 but if it's going to be another GTA4 situation, I may have to try both to see which one I prefer.
Porting to PC does not cost much. Plus a release 6 months after the console versions would take care of the warez kiddies.I think you're underestimating some other ancillary costs, such as the QA needed for the various hardware environments. GTA IV shipped as barely playable on PC, was later patched, and still probably didn't sell for crap compared to the console version. The effort that went into GTA IV probably provided some interesting ROI data, as in "it's not worth it" and that's where there's no RDR on PC.
"Are you finding your Red Dead Redemption experience too mild? Download the Chili Sauce DLC pack today! You'll find brand new character customisation options, such as burritos for your gun holsters, and a nacho hat! But be warned, this will make you an even tastier target for the Mountain Lions and Coyotes! There are no refunds for this item.""Wow, your DLC is awesome! Can I wear your hat?"
I think that's how they promoted GTA4 too but then it came out and both versions were so.....strange. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here but while the 360 version ran at a higher res and had a marginally better framerate the shadow dithering was incredibly distracting, so much so that I went out and bought the PS3 one but that had it's own issues as well. The lighting was better on the PS3 and the shadows were smooth but it ran at a lower res, had a weird vasoline like filter, and the framerate dipped more often than the 360 one. You just couldn't win either way.Man, I want to put a preorder down but after the whole GTA4 thing turned out I don't know which system to buy it for. Nobody knows.
RDR is following Crysis 2,Rage pattern...360 footage is used to hype and sell the game
But,i don't think that PS3 version will be total mess or unplayable...Rockstar wants money
Either way i am sure that resident TripleA pixel counter will be here to point out any differences.

I'm quietly confident this will be something I really like. Hopefully it is.
I don't have very high hopes for the MP side though. Another case of prove me wrong.
If you ever played Lost and Damned online, that had a mode where you and a few other guys ride around and do various objectives. It was really fun, actually. The free roam mode seems to be like that but much bigger. I don't know if competitive will be good, but just riding around, hunting, doing wild west shit with seven others sounds fun. I'm still a bit confused if it is 16 player free roam, two groups of 8, or just 8 people total.
Marston is constantly repeating "I'm a married man"-no wild west sex :'(

It would be awesome if he keeps referring to his wife Maryanne, and then finally at the end of the game he returns home, walks into the barn, says "I missed you so much, Maryanne," then you hear a horse whinny and it fades to black
I really want to get hyped. But it's western-themed. :-XI'm hyped cause it's western-themed. RDR looks amazing!

Yeah, I'm a sucker for Western-set games, and I'm hoping that this one'll have a spaghetti western soundtrack like Red Dead Revolver did.
PS3 version has exclusive features, including a town and a costume. No word on if the 360 version is getting anything.
Methodis/TripleA just meta'd my brain into the endzone. I can't tell if he's smart enough to pull off pretending to only just now make the connection with who Methodis is. For which he would have to be pretty dumb. Unless it's intentional, which would make it pretty clever. Which would be out of character for either one of them. Unless both are personas which only pretend to be dumb.

just preordered the 360 version from amazon. Does amazon send out their gift codes fairly quickly? I want to use the $20 on ModNation Racers next week.
Just saw that the firing mechanics in the PS3 version are with the L2 and R2 squishy triggers. My decision became a lot easier now.

But I still want to try this game. Sounds like it's really good.
Seriously, you guys have gone off the the deep end with how great this game looks, frothing like you are 10 years old. Does it look great (on the 360 and of course gimped from full on nirvana like always) sure it does. Is it so much better than anything else (on the PS3) not so much. I am sure it is a pretty damn good game but when it's subHD with no AA on the beast that is the PS3 NO ******* THANKS. I'll wait for the fall and christman and the 1st party to blow me away. God I love the Old West and GOD I hate Microsoft.
360 engines have ruined this Gen for multiplats. I can only hope for a PC version and some money to buy a PC in the next year or so (here I come M$). No way I'm playing a 540p game or even 640p of this caliber without AA on my 42" local dimmer. It will undoubtably look like crap. I can barely stand Ratchet and Clank and that is like 640p or something, and the cartoon visuals save it as does 60fps. Whatever. Rockstar is a big big BIG grisly senile boner imo and they are using an engine that is outdated and almost not compatible with the Cell's prowess.
Yeah, you guys settle for this. I will not. Nor will I support Rockstar and their outdated trashy 360 engine. Never did never will. KZ3 where are you?
I held out hope with R's post about what they have learned on the PS3.
FLACKIN LIES LIES LIES! This engine was built for the turd that is the 360 and as such I will now kill the entire world with my mind.
Casual,normal,expert
I use expert...no auto aim,it works well
When you press LT you automatically draw your weapon(selected in circle menu),no need for menu pimping
I used auto-aim in GTA4,combat was just too clunky for me.
thanks
I want to go with expect but I feel like trying to shoot in a horse might be difficult. I'm hoping you can change it in the game at least.
I hope this game sells damn well. We need more games set in something other than sci-fi/ WWII/ Afghanistan.
man, i have always found it weird and more than a little creepy how people will obsess over things like resolution and minute differences in graphical effects
I don't know which game to play. The new Prince of Persia or this one.
I think I'm going with this one.
More impressions please. I'm seriously considering using gamefly for a month for this and Blur. Is gamefly as bad as netflix with new releases?
man, i have always found it weird and more than a little creepy how people will obsess over things like resolution and minute differences in graphical effects
Resolution matters in games.
If you're making a game for an hd platform and your game isn't in hd, then I think it's perfectly normal for someone to be disappointed.
:D
News is spreading that the PS3 version runs at a lower res than the 360 one (just like GTA4) and GAF is in meltdown mode.QuoteSeriously, you guys have gone off the the deep end with how great this game looks, frothing like you are 10 years old.
:rofl
man, i have always found it weird and more than a little creepy how people will obsess over things like resolution and minute differences in graphical effectsI go back and play PS2/OG Xbox stuff sometimes, and honestly the graphic difference bothers me for about 5 minutes until I'm actually playing the game. What does get me, surprisingly, are the lack of other current-gen features such as XBL friend presence, support for custom soundtracks if I'm sick of the game's music, but mainly it feels weird after dealing with the Dashboard/XMB to have a console "just start." There's the game, it's local, and that's about it. But the graphics are not really anything which lingers in my head as a nag.
maybe it's because i came of age at a time when a fucking single-color square represented your "man" onscreen in a video game, but i hardly ever notice stuff like that, and even in a mediocre game like aliens vs. predator i am still tickled (that is countryspeak for "delighted") by effects like the alien acid spraying across the screen
the only thing that ever jumps out at or bothers me is when the frame rate stutters and chugs in a racing game or during heavy action moments in a shooter, and most of the time i can even live with that unless it really affects reaction time
i guess what i am trying to say is that i am not thinking about making a bullet point list when i sit down to play a game
The people who fixate on graphics on a minute level I've noticed often can't tell their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to game quality and generally have some weird platform agenda going. GAF is full of them. Fortunately there are just a couple over here I could mention but won't...The people who have fixated on resolution would likely tell you that higher resolution is CRITICAL to whether or not they can tell a difference between their ass and a hole in the ground.
I hope there's a repeating action rifle like they have in Lead & Gold. You mean a Winchester?
there's got to be some rockstar jank in there that no one's really talking aboutIt's R* San Diego. They are without sin.
got to be
i refuse to believe they made a completely satisfying game
it's probably the horse, something to do with the horse
hopefully it arrives soon, so we can play the damn game together! What release date does play-asia have for it? I'll have my copy Friday and will be playing Friday night, while sipping delicate Dong TeaYou will enjoy Cream of Sum Yung Gai as we cruise the Chinese Laundry in Dodge City.
In the more than 1,100 articles I have written for this newspaper since 1996, I have never before called anything a tour de force. Yet there is no more succinct and appropriate way to describe Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar rides again.

Exactly.
There's more to chicken than just the crispiness. There is taste, aroma, firmness of the bone, etc etc etc.
There's more to RDR than just the resolution.

PS3 is such a piece of shit machine when it comes to multiplatform games.
They can get away with not rendering any trees. Pretty clever if you think about it.
So is this game good or another gta4? and what are the graphic issues of the ps3 version? The game is better on PS3. You get more content and features, which is better than the 3 FPS less it runs at some points compared to the 360 version.

It's not a hat it's a costume, and the hideout is a mission. Thats a lot of content missing from the 360 one.preach it to gaf. jesus christ.

Some extra costumes, and a worthless mission is better than higher graphics fidelity (rez and fps), in a 30 hour game? :lol

There isn't a better graphics fidelity, it's a slight difference in graphics fidelity.
I rather have more content in this amazing game then 3 more FPS and a few more p's.

We are very sorry for the complete absence of any ps3 footage..
Our media & coding team choose what system to show the game off on & Xbox 360 is usually the most popular choice here at Rockstar.. well, most of the time.
But rest assured, that the PS3 version is just as good as the Xbox 360 version. They both look exactly the same & we have made sure to make that as obvious as possible on both platforms. We have learnt alot since developing GTA IV for the PS3 a few years back & we are now much more acquainted with how the console "ticks" & so, It is now on par with the Xbox 360 version more than ever.
You will love it & we have also given a little extra to PS3 users as a thank you gift. Xbox 360 users will receive this further on down the line though so all is well.
Yours sincerely, Rockstar Games.
See, even Rockstar says it looks the same.So did the ghostbusters devs. I mean, they want to sell to both audiences so they have no interest in saying one version is gimped.

Take-Two's efforts around Red Dead Redemption could pay off, says Cowen group analyst Doug Creutz, who's raised his estimates for the title from 2.2 million to 4.0 million units in its first year based on "very strong pre-order demand."Translation: "We thought nobody would be interested in this game, because western games haven't sold recently. And then people expressed interest in this western game by preordering the hell out of it. So we adjusted our estimate to nearly 200% of our speculation from just barely 6 months ago." To recap: Analysts don't know anything.
That happens in the first cutscene.
Shit Ic an't edit my post sorry for spoilers. No problem, I'll just perma-spoiler all your posts by putting you back on Ignore.

voice acting and acting/movement is really good. It doesn't feel exaggerated like in Uncharted or forced/uncanny like in Alan Wake.

Games out Friday here, having it couriered to my front door Friday morning. Got the day off work to play it 8)I thought you were ordering through Play-Asia, no?
nah bro, I ordered it locally... www.mightyape.co.nzExcellent that you have a local solution. I propbably could have waited until this weekend and hit up the one import shop in Nipponbashi. Actually, if I don't get a notification by Friday, I'll prolly cancel play-asia and just do that.
I'm playing too many other sandbox games to have time for this. Is there any pre-order/new copy bonus or should I wait?I hear you. Here is my list of uncompleted OWGs waiting while I ordered a new copy of Red Dead Redemption:

Its humorous that you would refer to something as a "troll" post. The irony.
Who gives a flying fuck, it's a great game on both systems. If you perfer a few more P's and anti-aliasing over content then go with the 360 one. If you want exclusive content, including missions, a costume, a hideout, new npcs, new geometry, new terrain, new textures then get the PS3 one.
For me, the choice was simple.

as soon as I get to a new town where I can buy new clothes, the shopkeeper closes the shop and walks out, so I'm like "ok, I'll sleep and check it out in the morning". A message pops up saying "shopkeeper has been killed; shop closed for 5 days" FUUUU! I ran back to the shop, saw the jackass responsible, and shot his hat off along with everything under it.
Then I saw a woman getting kidnapped, saved her and hogtied the kidnapper. as soon as I carried her away and freed her, I ran back and cut his throat. Justice, baby. Justice.

I don't see how im owned if i'm enjoying the same exact game except with inferior graphics and additional features that xbots will never play until Rockstar releases the DLC like pretty much every company does with all "exclusive" pre-order DLC. ???
I don't see how im owned if i'm enjoying the same exact game except with additional features that xbots will never play ???
i guess the only other thing i find out of sorts is that the main storyline structure is pretty rigid
i started at the ranch, then did some missions for the sheriff in armadillo, and when i went back to the ranch my next mission there was to drive bonnie to armadillo - in the conversation she acted like i'd never been there before
i guess if you go off-course from the main plot, it's always gonna be a bit weird and deja vu when you come back to it

Exact same? Yeah if you don't mind a lower framerate, terrible graphics for the standards of today, and shittier online interaction. Sure, same game.
Look Methodis, I don't hate the PS3, but this isn't a matter of opinion. Multiplatform games are, across the board, worse on the PS3. The PS3 is a difficult system to optimize for, and every game developer that has made a multi-console game has testified as such. The PS3 has solid exclusives that take advantage of the hardware, very few of which I have even remote interest in, which is why I'm an 'Xbot'.
This really isn't a fanboy war, multiplatform games have always, and will always, perform better on the 360. Sales, hardware numbers, "professional" testimonies are never going to change that fact.

This is non-scientific, but after playing an hour of both games, and switching back and forth between the two systems on our display, it's clear that the 360 version has quite the graphical advantage.
Really, it doesn't seem to be Bayonetta-level bad. If I only had a PS3, I probably wouldn't care.
Multi-system owners who get the PS3 version over the 360 version are plain 'tarded though.

Which looks the exact same to anyone not sitting 5 inches away from their tv.
It looks great on a shitty TV too, it looks great period. There's no reason to not get this game on PS3,unless you truly care about a few more p's. There's no reason to not get this game on 360, unless you want more features.
Really, it doesn't seem to be Bayonetta-level bad. If I only had a PS3, I probably wouldn't care.
Multi-system owners who get the PS3 version over the 360 version are plain 'tarded though.
That is pretty much true for any multi platform game
Well, some people who own both the Ps3 and the X360 got FFXIII for the latter console.
Now that is distinguished mentally-challenged.
To be fair, the 360 version is worse because it has too much detail. Everyone knows that the sparse environments and lack of legible textures found in the PS3 version are more accurate to time period depicted in the game. Typical Xfag spin, trying to claim that visuals trump historical accuracy. :dizzy

No, there are some exceptions. FFXIII, Devil May Cry 4 (IIRC), and Hokuto Musou come to mind. And wasn't Dead Space supposed to look better on PS3?

Real talk, if I only had a PS3 I wouldn't really give a shit. Both games look pretty comparable and the end product is still the same. I don't know why people make an issue out these comparisons anymore. Multiplatform releases by and large look marginally better on the 360. The sooner we accept that the better off everyone will be.
Nope, both Dead Space and DMC4 looked better on the 360.
Point is DS and DMC4 are best on PC :smug
RDD is best on 360. So far :smug
Nope, both Dead Space and DMC4 looked better on the 360.
Don't DMC4's cut scenes run at 30FPS on 360 and 60FPS on PS3? I remember reading that. And with Dead Space, it was some lighting thing? High dynamic range lighting or something or other? I have no idea if this is bullshit or not.
I got both games on PS3, for the record. DMC4 just to have something to play on PS3 at the time (although I never did play it) and Dead Space because I wasn't sure if it was region free for my J360.

Borys, do you even have the right PC and monitor to run those two games properly? :P
Speaking of DMC, how was Devil May Cry 3 on PC? Anything enhanced over the PS2 version?
I'm starting to wish they made this game a more like Fallout 3/Bethesda RPGs. I've only done a few of the main missions but I'm loving just riding around, exploring, and doing just random tasks.
And maybe it is just what I like about westerns, but the cutscenes are a bit much. It's just on and on with the overwritten banter at times. At least if you're gonna have more talking while riding to the destination, keep the cutscenes brief. That said, I like the main character.
when npcs chastise me during a mission it makes me want to kill them
"C'MON WHAT'RE YOU WAITIN FOR"
"QUIT FOOLIN' AROUND"
"I CAN'T DO THIS BY MYSELF"
"GET THAT HERD TO THE RANCH WE DON'T HAVE ALL DAY"
bang-bang
are you guys gonna form a posse?
there are surprisingly less folks playing this on my friends list than i expected.
Picked the game up...they were all sold out of it at the mall I was at and the clerk told me I wouldn't be able to find a copy ("that's what you get for not pre-ordering!"), so I went two minutes down the street to another Gamestop where they had shitloads of copies.Did they actually say that to you? I can't stand the :smug -ness of that attitude. "SON. THIS IS A RETAIL ESTABLISHMENT WITH COPIES OF GAMES. IF I WANTED TO PRE-ORDER, I'D GO THROUGH AMAZON. A BRICK-AND-MORTAR STOREFRONT IS SUPPOSED TO CARRY STOCK, HAVE INVENTORY. AM I GETTING THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULL? IT'S LIKE TALKIN' TO A WALL, I SAY."
Got the regular edition. What's added to the special edition?
Just unlocked the duster :rockHow does the Social Club Challenge work? Is it like Ballad of Gay Tony where you can try for each win-condition during separate runs, or do you have to get all of them during a single run? Can you retry whenever you want, or do you have to keep a separate save game for that mission?
Working on that Social Club challenge right now.
So it's true?Methodis is the forum equivalent of a drunk-dialer. He doesn't think before he posts. Since our admins seem unwilling to moderate the people who break the rules, I've got him on Ignore now, the same way I had WrikaWrek firewalled after he spoiled Brutal Legend. Oddly, I don't have TripleA on Ignore, so maybe I am actually believing they're different people now.
Methodis posted an unmarked spoiler about the end of RDR? KILL HIM WITH FIRE.

The current Social Club challenge requires you to get all three win conditions in one run, but it's not that tough.Danke.
multiplayer was confusing, i never saw anyone else and then the game froze and booted me back to the dashboard

A Western RPG done fallout style would be dope. That being said in an open world game I'm the type of gamer who actually needs a strong narrative story element. All open world action games get a bit repititious and if I don't have story hook to drive me forward and push that out of my mind, I lose interest. I've noticed that all the open world games message board types loves are the ones that bore me because they are very light on story.
I'm normally the guy who champions gameplay over narrative in videogames but for open world affairs and RPG's I need a story or characters to drive me to finish.

I'm not saying it should be without a story, only that the style they went with isn't the best fit for the setting. At least for me, what they're doing isn't the appeal of western movies. I haven't seen Deadwood so maybe they're trying to imitate that more than spaghetti westerns. Like, assuming LA Noire is similar, in that setting I wouldn't really mind it.
If one more damsel in distress ends up tricking me into some outlaws holding me at gunshot then I am going to break this disc.
Sorry about not joining you Eel. I'm just playing SP stuff for now. WHen the co-op missions drop, I"m all yours. :-*

Apparently Rockstar only sent reviews to people whom they trusted to give good reviews. Bombcast and several other sites were screwed because of this.

apparently i was too close to him when i got on the cart to return it, and i guess it counted as me stealing it

Instead of shooting a guy off his horse, it's fantastic to shoot for the horse's legs :pirate
Euphoria :bow2 Makes the combat very satisfying, enhances the deadeye power.

It isn't too hard, but the damn thing takes way too long to balance. It would have been nice if taming a type of horse would make you a pro at it, therefore not needing to do it again, or just having it be a skill that could be leveled up. I've tamed at least 4 white horses and each time is like 30+ seconds of "left...right...left...left...right...left...right...left".
Same for skinning animals too. The game establishes that the main character is new to some of this stuff, so it would have been nice if he would improve at it. Then again, I don't know how they'd explain how looting enemies would speed up. I've gotten to the point where I just don't bother anymore. If I need money, bounties pay $400 for alive, and I'd rather spend 5 minutes doing that than 10 seconds to loot an enemy for $6.
Hey how about you spoil tag shit, fagdick?
Yeah...I am hiding in the pouring rain waiting for a bounty to show his face so I can shoot it and out of nowhere a mountain lion starts biting me on the ass. Then the bad guys start realize where I am and start shoot at me....but it's the mountain lion the kills me.
the attacking animals do get to be annoying after a while
I bet there's a third act twist where the goons he's hunting go after his wife and she ends up dead or something.
That happens in the first cutscene.
Hey how about you spoil tag shit, fagdick?
Thanks for spoiling, dickfag.
He also spoiled the ending, but thankfully those posts were deleted.

dont wanna do bad deeds if i don't have to. but i figure since they're a part of a bad gang then I can just kill em and there be no issue.
Irish is the worst character ever. Seth is pretty good. Thoughts.
multiplayer's just not really fun
you start off so weak that tackling any gang hideouts is just a frustrating exercise in dying over and over and over again
and other dudes have already leveled up to crazy heights (even though the game's only been out two days) that you're just gonna get slaughtered and not get any enjoyment out of it
i give this a month before the community is completely dead, maybe at least the co-op stuff will be fun if you can find anyone left to play with you once it comes out
- Balancing on a horse is easy, I've never fallen off and I've wrangled two dozen horses, you guys suck
theres a sniper rifle in this game?:lol

if anyone's up for it, let's try to assemble a bore private game sometime this weekend, i believe we can squeeze some fun out of this bitch by playing together
My friends list is filled with people playing this.
By comparison I've seen relatively few people playing Alan Wake.
Interesting...
just bought a horse..... where do i get it now?

and it's cool too because if that horse dies you can just go back and select the contract again and the horse will spawn.
so how accurate are the comparisons to Deadwood?

Rockstar bugs are the best :lolYeah. I loved it in San Andreas when I got to Level 12 Firefighter, and the car on fire was floating 200 yards above the freeway, out of reach of my firetruck, any nearby buildings, and God.
Yeah, you're just starting. That's right at the beginning. Is it possible that the swarm of wolves was supposed to prevent you from entering Mexico? I've not received my copy so I have NO IDEA WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, but doesn't Rockstar block off the areas you're not supposed to visit? Maybe you were making a run for the border before they wanted you to?
[youtube=560,345]7IkvAb6THQY[/youtube]
And I don't remember this song playing when I entered Mexico but evidently it's supposed to. Freakin' bugs. It would've been awesome to listen to this song as you crossed into Mexico for the first time. All I got was attacked by a never ending swarm of wolves. Seriously, I collected around 40 or so pelts before I got bored and went to the nearest town.
My game is sabotaging me.

spoiler (click to show/hide)]The game basically reached its climax during the battle for Dutch and then after that you're subjected to about 7 or 8 bullshit homestead missions that felt like the tutorial all over again. I understand Rockstar wanted you to connect with your family but honestly I thought they were all a bunch of douchebags, and Marston himself wasn't all that much better when dealing with his "uncle". Having this character development take place around the most mundane zoloft popping missions in the game reminded me in a way of the end of Shenmue 2 where the actual game was over after the tower fight and then you had a 3 hour walk in the woods in China where not much of anything actually happened (of course not much of anything EVER happened in Shenmue, but that's another story).
And then after it's all done, you're left playig as Martson's distinguished mentally-challenged looking son. I don't want to play anything with this dick. I want John back.[close]

The first time I played through the end I had left a couple of side missions half-finished, and I thought they could have done a better job of adjusting to the three year difference in time. The same fucking people were still standing there after three years! :lol It also would have been nice to have given the kid a handful of missions where he met people who talked about his father and did things for/with them, leading up to the revenge shootout, instead of just leading you straight to Ross. Or some things to do afterward, sort of a "Kid has to make his own name" type stuff.[close]
Also, everyone keeps saying Landon Ricketts is a Sam Elliottt character. He's not. He's a Lee Van Cleef homage. They even hired a voice actor that sounds just like him.

And speaking of the ending and all, it just dawned on me that the mysterious grim-reaper type character from the "I Know You" missions disappeared at the very place where John and Abigail were burried. That's actually a nice touch.[close]
yeah i got caught in an endless loop of spawn killing by a bunch of shitheads while just trying to do a gang hideout tonight, that's no fun
i remember the names, though, so i intend to grief them every chance i get in every game i buy and see them playing, i will make it somewhat of a hobby and do my utmost to ruin their online experience whenever possible from now on
griefing. i'll make it have consequences!
We also see that the view distance on PS3 has been pulled back (or rather forward), although it's more accurate to say that view detail has been reduced. Xbox 360 gives you more detail further away, not just in terms of raw resolution but with actual object placement too.
So, we're just left with the matter of the final recommendation. We've demonstrated conclusively that the Xbox 360 version of Red Dead Redemption possesses higher resolution, improved levels of detail, noticeably superior performance in-game and fewer jaggies owing to a more consistently applied anti-aliasing solution that doesn't blur the image. Shadows are generally sharper, and of better quality (particularly on the characters' self-shadows).
Just about the only area where PS3 commands an advantage is in terms of loading: the 515MB mandatory install shaves off a few seconds, but as the only in-game loading occurs during fast-travel between locations (using the campsite), it's hardly worth mentioning. Certainly the install doesn't grant any kind of tangible performance boost in terms of less LOD-popping or anything like that.
So are the side games like poker and dice and stuff actually fun?
One of my biggest problems with GTA IV is that the pool, darts, bowling, and Qub3d are just pathetically un-fun.
Eel, hope you and I can play some multi when I get the game. I should be getting my copy by the end of next week.

They need to concentrate on making Free Roam a better experience, because that's where everyone's hanging out - no one's really playing any of the standard MP matches.I gave multiplayer a good go last night, and one of the dumbest things about the standard multiplayer is it gives you jack all XP compared to Free roam. You get a 100XP bonus for winning capture the bag, + 50XP per kill in deathmatch. Compared to 1000-2000xp for a quick 3 minute gang hideout in free roam. Its striaght up distinguished mentally-challenged. Apparently the standard MP consecutive wins cheevs are easy as pie to boost, so I'll get those soon. Only cheev Im actually worried about is Posse up, but Im fairly confident I can 1000 this game without too much trouble. Like Eel said, Im just hoping they focus on free roam and add more features via DLC.

So speaking of the end......did anyone else get a Shenmue 2 type of vibe, or was that just me?spoiler (click to show/hide)The game builds up to a pretty awesome battle with Dutch but then after that it's just a bunch of nothing, just like Shenmue 2. Glad to help. We’ve checked with our designers and the best reference for the style of hat Marston wears is a Light Center Crease, Modified-Cattleman. You should be able to track that sucker down at any number of Western outfitter online store sites by doing a bit of light googling.
“What exactly is this John Hillcoat short film of Red Dead? is it a prequel?” – received via Mouthoff
No. A Short Film Made From Red Dead Redemption is not a prequel – instead, director John Hillcoat was given free reign to use the world of Red Dead Redemption as his own personal film studio, manipulating characters, animals, sound and weather to create his own personal vision of the first chapter of Marston's story – his quest to capture Bill Williamson. By capturing gameplay footage and editing cutscenes, Hillcoat and editor Barry Alexander Brown were able to create a unique short film that deals with one specific slice of the game's story. (Confession - there are about two or three lines of dialogue we re-recorded for the piece, and a couple where we had to remove bad language. Otherwise it is 100% from the game.)
I live in Sweden and i just noticed that this version of RDR uses Feet and Miles for measurements. There is a whole world outside of the USA that uses Meter and KiloMeters out there, you know!” - RobbyS
Of course! Don’t think that anyone in 1911 America knew what a kilometre was though. You really don’t need to have a strong sense of the American or the metric system of measurement in order to play through any of the gameplay.
spoiler (click to show/hide)Just got to Blackwater and did the first quest. Pretty drastic change in setting. How much longer in the game do I have?[close]
are you sure that you have your gun out? i think you can only do it when you're aiming your gun
It's here! It runs! Play-Asia doesn't have to die horribly (this time).
However, even with the patch, the dialog stopped playing halfway through the introduction. I thought it was dramatic effect, because the music was still playing, but no. :lol
WHY DID I READ EELS SPOILER WHEN I HADNT FINISHED THE GAME ARGHHH
yes.spoiler (click to show/hide)he grows on you. sure he'll never be as cool as John but whatevs. I roll around with the all black horse and the elegant suit. looks good for Jack.[close]
i let my online temper get the best of me and pulled a william munny on a dude in my posse last night
first he pulled me off my horse and took off, so i killed the horse and shotgunned him in the face while he was lying in the dirt
then when we were clearing out the gang at gaptooth ridge he rode too close to the dynamite charge i had set, i tried to warn him but he didn't have a headset and so he became cowboy mist
i guess he thought i did it on purpose, so he shot me - i let it ride since he was a level 1 newcomer
he did it again, and i tried to let him know that it was over, we were both on the same team, and we should concentrate on the gang hideout mission
then he did it a third time, so i made him my project for the evening
i ran his ass down all over the map, killing him every way i could until he left the free roam, at one point i chased him down on horseback while he was on foot and shot him in the back on a cliff edge, watching his worthless hide tumble to the bottom
this is why no one plays anything but free roam

Nowhere as good as Mass Effect 2.
so far it's a pretty close race between Bad Company 2, RDR, and ME2.
They need to make Mass Effect 2: Awakenings to lead into ME3...preferably by the end of this year.
told you you'd dig it bro, lets Free Roam it up this weekendHELLS YES. I was grinning maniacally at the earlier description of griefing the jackass in Free Roam, watching his body tumble to the bottom of a cliff, laying into him until he chose to bail from the mode. I want in on some of that.
uh, am i missing something or is there a way to tell what time it is in game (besides the sun of course)There is a pocketwatch with the day of the week shown on it, whenever you pull up the pause menu.
Picked this up yesterday and ran around for a few hours. The "GTA in the west" feel of the game is a good fit, surprisingly.
I should be playing this evening if any of you rustic turd burglars want to posse up, although I still have no idea what this entails, exactly. (xbl: jim robobo)
Game honestly feels very similar to me as GTA 4. Especially as I play more. I think its a more refined game. It's an improvement over GTA 4. Especially in the "extra" stuff. But honestly the main difference for me is simply setting. (And probably that the extra stuff is more fun and interesting). Gunplay is a bit better also which makes the combat portions of the game more fun. Especially the red eye stuff which makes what could be frustrating much more tolerable.
It's a big map. You go to each letter. They give you a mission and you go do it. Now mechanically driving around a city is way different than riding your horse around but in structure its very much the same as every GTA game before it.
The setting and the random encounters out in the desert are the huge improvements for me. Not that I don't mind a good urban gangster plot device* but running around in the old west is a great refresher. It's thematically fun!

I'm sorry I quit, a female called and she took precedent over the throwing knife horse feud RoboJ and I were engaged in.
Just ran into another stupid situation where I went to rescue a guy who was wrongfully being hanged. Of course in an actual game mission in the exact same situation I just ran up to the person and it gave me the option to cut them down.Huh. I thought you had to shoot out the rope every time; basically it will blow through whatever dead-eye time you have, just to line up the rope, and hopefully get a few of the lynch mob as well.
But in this side mission it didn't or I couldn't get it to trigger. I think I was supposed to shoot him down. But it gave me very little time to realize that and he died I as ran around the body trying to trigger the cut down option like it had taught me to do in an earlier mission.
It's the little things like that that annoy the fuck out of me. Bad game design.
Yeah, sorry I left abruptly. I think whenever that other guy cleared the mission he was working on, it did a screen wipe and locked up the game for me. Since it was so late, I just decided to call it quits. No problemo. The guy who joined us was being a showboating loudmouth, and it was watering down my enjoyment anyway. And it kicked me out as well, with no experience when he finished that hideout. :maf
gang shootouts are absolutely worthless
they placed better weapons to find in crates on the maps, which makes the matches lopsided as hell once the other side claims all the good weapons
of course you are going to kill me every time if you have a high-powered pistol versus my cattleman revolver, you can squeeze off an entire clip by the time i've fired my second shot, especially with casual aiming
ugh, who the hell at rockstar thought that was a good idea? everyone should have the same pistol and rifle
i saw through that bullshit pretty early and left the match, then i got kicked from the free roam, but i gave not the fucks because only an idiot sits there just to be mown down again and again
Huh. I thought you had to shoot out the rope every time; basically it will blow through whatever dead-eye time you have, just to line up the rope, and hopefully get a few of the lynch mob as well.
Bitch shoulda put out first.
that's a little better, but i'd still prefer it if everyone kept the same loadout, the game weapons really aren't balanced for multiplayer
Ah, interesting. I started that mission last night, got to the sequence you mention, and having rescued one random encounter successfully, and lost another because I couldn't shoot the rope fast enough, I made a foolish charge at the gallows and ended up RED DEAD.Huh. I thought you had to shoot out the rope every time; basically it will blow through whatever dead-eye time you have, just to line up the rope, and hopefully get a few of the lynch mob as well.
That is probably what you have to do but in thespoiler (click to show/hide)bonnie hanging mission which I had just done before all I had to do was approach the body and a prompt appeared to cut her down. (or maybe it just directly went to a cutscene of him cutting her down) I hate it when a game has two examples of how to do something because I thought I was supposed to do exactly what I did in the bonnie mission.[close]
So I was on my alt Xbox account and decided to use a month Gold card I've had forever, start another multi character for the hell of it, and to see how bad it's gotten for newcomers playing aloneI loved this story. Real talk. You should have invited one of them to your posse. Let them talk amongst themselves about how to try and work it into a trap and continue to mess with them.
The griefing, oh god the griefing when you are level one and alone (i was laughing about it, but this game is gonna be deader than hell if they don't do a little something about that pretty soon - maybe patch it so level ones at least start out with a couple more weapons to defend themselves with)
So I hopped over to private match and quick-leveled up to level 7 off a few gang hideouts (you can keep doing Twin Rocks over and over and level up pretty fast)
i figured level 7 was low enough that the higher-level bully posses would still try to fuck with me, and sure enough not long after i joined a public free roam some dudes took the bait, inviting me to their posse just to kill me from a rooftop when i teleported in, and then immediately kicking me out of their posse
luckily i respawned behind a hill so they couldn't catch me in a death loop, then hopped on my horse and circled around to a hilltop a good bit away from them
what they didn't know is that i had gathered a bunch of special weapons from the gang hideouts i'd done in private free roam, including the carcano sniper rifle
so i parked myself behind a rock overlooking their perch, and proceeded to light their asses up until i'd emptied my gun, paying special attention to the douche (iNfeSTATioN, or something) who'd invited me to their little ambush
every time i saw his name pop up i'd shoot just under it (i was so far away i could barely see him) and watch the 10xp pop up
eventually, because all bullies are pussies at heart and can't take what they dish out, they all started voting to kick me, so i left of my own accord before they could get the satisfaction
i think i'm going to be an angel of death from now on when i play alone, anytime i see a low-level player being spawn-camped on by a bunch of shitfucks i will bring a special hell to them if i am able
That religious nutcase pissed me off when I brought her the medicine and she said god saved her. So then I hogtied her, threw her on the horse and took her to armadillo and threw her outside the doctor.:lol
There's an outfit that you can buy from the tailor in Thieves' Landing lets you draw a card from the bottom of the deck when it's your turn to deal.oooh. i'll pick it up tonight.
"Your honor, I don't kill people. I just tie them up and throw them on the tracks. The trains kill them. I am but an innocent in this whole sordid trial. Perhaps the Union Pacific conductors should be standing before you instead?":lol :lol :lol
I enjoy hogtying people and dumping them in bodies of water. :lolhaha I always go looking for coyotes but I haven't been able to find them when I have a person tied up and ready.

As an aside to all this hogtie talk, is there any point to capturing any of the random baddies alive? I roped one and took him back to the Sherriff's office, but there didn't seem to be any special spot or reward for dumping his ass there.
Then a mysterious level 50 player came up behind me. He just stood there for a minute. We were staring at each other. I then did a circuit around El Presidio, he followed me the whole way. No one said anything. I went back to my cannon to keep killiing mexicans. He then stands behind me and pulls out a stick of TNT. He holds it until it explodes, killing both of us. What a loon!

I think that's correct. At least so far. When people get robbed you can bring the bad guy back for them but they usually just kick them in the head and shit.As an aside to all this hogtie talk, is there any point to capturing any of the random baddies alive? I think it only works for the actual bounty hunter missions but some one will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure.

I had some big time lulz doing solo free roam last night. I was up at El Presidio, grinding kills with the cannons for an achievement. A distinguished mentally-challenged fellow posse came up the main road, blew like 3 of them up, and they were screaming "watch out! This guys real bad!" etc.

Game is phenomenal. This is easily one of the best games of 2010.
:bow Rockstar San Diego :bow2
Glad to see a publicly troubled development cycle produced such a fantastic game. After that, I was invited into multiplayer by A Slime Appears, and we found out that private Free Roam (a) doesn't disconnect me randomly and (b) gives experience for gang hideouts at least. I thought their MP model treated private matches like Player Matches, but apparently not. Yippee kay ay!
We should play more! :-*

Hogtying vs. killing will net you more money, and probably more Honor as well. Maybe Fame, to boot. If you do "night watch" missions at McFarlane Ranch, you will lose honor for killing if the crime is something which is non-lethal (i.e. fistfight).
I returned a couple of escaped prisoners to a crippled sheriff, and the game awarded me the Duster Outfit. So there's some duds as a reward for live capture.
that would be fantastic
my brother used to do civil war reenactments, he was way into that shit when i was a kid, had all the replica gear (and some original stuff), went on the trips with his "unit," etc. they would speak in language proper for the time during the shows, i always thought it was pretty trippy
also i want to earn the Wild Bunch title, a posse of 2 or more has to each reach $5000 bounty (easy to do in Blackwater)
Still pissed.I can't believe I went back 4 pages just to figure out what you're talking about.
I was too good at killing for Rockstar to hand cuff me like that.
I just got to Mexico. This game keeps getting better and better!Hah. Well, every project has crunch, and everyone gets unhappy during crunch -- not just the people working it, but the families who are influenced by it. It's unhealthy, it's why the dev industry loses so many people to attrition. Good thing there are so many young prospects showing up every year, beating down the doors to work these crazy hours, willing to do anything... (and then burning out five years later, wondering why). And was it all that publicly troubled, other than the one EA-spouse wannabe with her all-caps missive?
Most of it stemmed from that but there were always rumor mongering about the crazy late nights and all the issues the team had during development. Plus there was those eye of Sauron comments made about how Rockstar NY treated San Diego. It wasn't anything scandalous but there was a lot of constant murmuring over in devland.
tried to play this with mups tonight, got the connection aids :(
Mexico was the low point of the game IMO. Location wise it was gorgeous but the storylines and missions down there were long, drawn out and annoying. Game really ramps up when you hit the 3rd portion of the map.
Funny thing is, some people on another board said the game had a poor tutorial and steep learning curve :lol The game is piss easy, there is not one hard mission. You can pack heaps of medicine and chewing tobacco to make the game even easier if you need to.
tried to play this with mups tonight, got the connection aids :(I hope I didn't infect you with my connection cooties last weekend. :-[
tried to play this with mups tonight, got the connection aids :(we'll try again tonight :(
yeah. i thought it was actually loading until I looked at my router and there was no activity. I felt like raging the third time. :(tried to play this with mups tonight, got the connection aids :(I hope I didn't infect you with my connection cooties last weekend. :-[
In all honesty, I'm happy to hear I'm not the only person having the issue. It probably means that it's a bug, not a connection problem specific to my setup, so Rockstar will eventually patch it.
In the meantime, I think it's private matches on weekends until I hear about a fix. That ENDLESS LOADING SCREEN after getting kicked, it's so frustrating. I have to quit to Dashboard and reboot the game. :maf
yeah. i thought it was actually loading until I looked at my router and there was no activity. I felt like raging the third time. :(Try EIGHT. Maybe more. I lost count. That's what was happening to me all day on Sunday.
Try EIGHT. Maybe more. I lost count. That's what was happening to me all day on Sunday.Hahaha It only did it when Eel would invite me. I joined a public game and invited him and it worked fine but then when he teleported to another game it kicked me out. and whenever he'd send me an invite it'd kick me out.
It wasn't even consistent. Sometimes it kicked me before it even showed the actual game world, sometimes it kicked me when I teleported to the posse leader, others when I had finally approached the posse on ground, having lost it three times during teleports. :maf
I played singleplayer tonight. Was approached by the whore on the stagecoach who sets up the ambush; deadeyed four guys, lasso'd and hogtied the strumpet, and then carried her all the way to the other side of the map and dumped her in front of the train. Is that really a cheevment??Found two more treasures; that's fun. Tried using Bait to get Boars in the one open area that shows them. Ended up getting 14 coyote, 1 skunk, 1 fox, 3 wolves, and using most of my medicine after being blindsided by 4 cougars. :Pspoiler (click to show/hide)DASTARDLY! ('cheev unlocked)[close]
It's a dangerous game to play at night. It's so easy to lose track of time: Any time I'm heading somewhere, I might see an animal and hunt it, and while I'm working on skinning them, some ambient challenge pops up, like a stolen wagon or a stickup, and pretty soon it's an hour later, and I've forgotten why I originally wanted to go to Armadillo. :lol
yeah, you refused to talk to me :( haha, have it your way dude.
So the treasure hunter maps. Am I just supposed to look at the map and recognize that as a place in the game world? Seems difficult.BTW, assuming the treasure is always going to be in the same order, that first piece is harder than the next two. I couldn't even find the river name on the map for the longest while.
yeah, you refused to talk to me :( haha, have it your way dude.
yeah sorry about that, there were people sleeping in the room next to mine and i didnt want to wake my dog from her crate, she picked up a habit of waking everyone up at around 5 am when she was on steroids the other week, i eventually figured out she just needed to drink water because of the toll that shit takes on you, she still hasnt kicked it and would have thrown a tantrum if i walked 10 feet outside my room to take a piss :shh :ninja
I don't have problems with ANY OTHER GAME. I'm pretty sure the disconnect issue is a bug. As in: it's not something you can fix.yeah, seems to work fine in private free roam. some people on other forums said they had success opening their NAT or whatever so I tried that. But yeah, seems to just be a bug. :(
However, it may be something you can work around. Did you try going Private Free Roam?
My bad. I figured everyone has been past me for a while except for mupepe. :-[
Sorry that I've been ignoring party requests. :( I think I'm pretty much done with free roam until the DLC comes out. I can only shoot up a gang hideout so many times.Yeah we sent you a few and then we waited and then Eel was like "well I guess he hates us then" and we rode off into the sunset
I've gotten better, but I still don't understand how to play when it gets down to 1 vs. 1. I always end up blowing it at that point.that'd be awesome. i could probably spend hours talking shit and betting with other dudes in multiplayer.
They should put some of the gambling games in multiplayer, winner gets experience.

I'm surprised they didn't put all the games in multiplayer. Liars dice is pretty fun.
When everyone in your posse (2 or more) gets $5k bounty on their heads, you get the [Wild Bunch] titleI'm ready for that. Anytime you see me on, toss an invite and we'll get our Saving Private Free Roam on.
I want that title
It's almost impossible in public Free Roams, as soon as you get a "Most Wanted" ($1k), every damned person on the map heads towards where you are
gonna have to assemble a private Free Roam posse for that one
That update didn't fix shit for me.NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I lost my prized stallion I broke with Bonnie. It wandered off a cliff the stupid thing. :mafI'm entirely unsure if I've got the good horse or not. I've kept that same one, but at some point some cannibal piece of shit, not even the American Appetites one but some camper just outside Armadillo invited me over roadside and then shotgunned my horse out from under me. When I whistled for another horse, just to try it, it seemed like the same horse showed up.
Now I have to buy a new horse. :(
RIP Turdburglar :'(

That update didn't fix shit for me.
I've enjoyed the Mexico stuff. But I notice my taste in the storylines for these sort of games differ from other people often. The rebel leader is hilarious for example.Yeah Reyes is pretty awesome, he needed more screentime. He was like, really stoned or something.
A few more missions and the 20 missions with the same horse 'cheev should pop. If not, I'll know that my lovely horse did truly die that day.Good luck with that one, its a glitchy cheev. Im only missing that one and Lvl 50 in multi now. I have to start a new game to get it :(

everyone is raging on the rockstar blog, apparently they lowered the xp you get from gang hideouts making it much slower to level up :lolYOU ARE JOKING
It just dawned on me that there's no instancing in Free Roam, right? So if a bunch of guys sat down for a serious game of poker, they'd likely be interrupted by griefers just running into the bar and gunning everyone down for kicks.I've gotten better, but I still don't understand how to play when it gets down to 1 vs. 1. If the free-for-all games are handled as instanced areas where there isn't outside interference, maybe a similar rule could happen for gambling mini-games?

Well, actually, this occurred for the first time ever for me yesterday, AFTER the 1.02 patch. :lol
By popular demand, we've released a new Hardcore Free Roam Playlist for Red Dead Redemption multiplayer. This Free Roam is Expert targeting only – no Casual or Normal targeting allowed, and is now available for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Remember, this is strictly for the hardcore, so don’t complain when things get unpleasant.
For anybody currently in multiplayer who think they are hard enough, you'll need to completely back out and restart the game before this playlist will show up.
Did I finish the game?spoiler (click to show/hide)I'm past the part where Marston is gunned down and am his son. Is that it? I know I can continue but is all that is left are stranger missions? I see no one on the map that I can meet up with to get missions. :-\[close]

Well, actually, this occurred for the first time ever for me yesterday, AFTER the 1.02 patch. :lol
are you ready to roll with a bona-fide Sack Toucher? :-*
man I cant wait to get that title
Multiplayer has other issues. Much as with GTA, it's incredibly impressive that you can drop into that world with other people and it will still be there. But this is some blasted-out carapace of the world you get in single player, the one with all the interesting characters and interesting jobs, which is to say that there are characters and jobs of any kind. I can hardly bear to go there it's so desolate, but it's not desolate as in "lonesome," which is what you are looking for sometimes, and the single player delivers. It's desolate as in "save for the cacti this might as well be the moon."
We talked about fetishes before, briefly - my fetish is not ostriches, but context. Red Dead Redemption has progression, so, like, two points for that, but it has no context, which strips the previously granted points of their value. More accurately, it puts the points out of phase with a value-granting structure. Outside of the novel setting, the individual multiplayer games have nothing substantial to offer a person other than progression. This is pretty ordinary stuff.
There are so many things to do in the actual game that you'd want to do with other people: you'd want to play horseshoes, or Poker, or Blackjack. Even those would be diversions, though. You'd want to drive cattle, or steal them; you want to cut a slice of that country out and see what you could make of it - or get yours riding rough over the smaller towns. As it stands, you're given desperately limited access to a sterile, stricken place without heart or memory.
well, to be fair, they never claimed any of that would be in the game
free roam was supposed to be a meetup place where you'd bullshit around until someone launched a mp game mode
i'm certainly having a good time making my own fun out of it
Got into Mexico last night :hyper¡Bienvenido a la Land of Moral Ambiguity!
Eel, how long is the total play-through if I do a reasonable amount of side missions?
it really is next to impossible to get the [Wild Bunch] title in public sessions, though
i only got up to about $3500 before other players starting showing up, and between worrying about them and the mexican army i just cashed it in and tried to fend off other players as much as possible so infectedgib could hit his mark of $7500
he was so close, too :(

Im keen to go for those Outlaw challenges too, next time were on together lets do it in private free roam
it's not likely anyone will just stick to the main quest, just in travelling from mission to mission you're gonna hit a bunch of random events that will sidetrack you
Is that really a spoiler? I waffled over whether or not to click on it, but even the Xbox Insider guys on the tips channel have said:spoiler (click to show/hide)be sure and buy a newspaper after you "finish" the game[close]

Just got the Reyes' Rebels outfit last night... why the hell didn't they let me have this BEFORE I left Mexico? :( It's my favorite one so far, but it doesn't look appropriate when running around in the woods.I'm only one checklist item away from getting that, and I too just cleared Mexico tonight. I'll have to go back for some things, but I'm kind of glad to be done with it. It's enjoyable helping the Armadillo sheriff and the MacFarlanes, but having to cooperate with anyone in Mexico felt less-than-heroic.
What is a "treasure hunter bounty" and where are they assigned? I've brought back Walton's gang, banditos, and whatever gang is around the MacFarlane Ranch. I don't think I've seen a treasure hunter yet.
Had some good timing and managed to posse up with Eel. Blew through all the gang hideouts in one go, nabbing the "Have gun, will travel" 'cheev. Encountered a really ill-advised griefer who rolled up on us after Eel had supplied both of us with Buffalo Rifles.
Good times.
Yeah, they really lost the trail with Marston's back story. If his Robin Hood-esque take on his past behavior is accurate (and he repeats it so often that he must certainly believe it is), how is this even a redemption story?I'd love to either play a straight up outlaw in this setting or play a straight up good guy busting baddies left and right. I felt they missed a lot with not choosing a side. Robbing banks and shit would be so so so awesome. getting shitfaced in brothels and catching std's and shooting cheats would the shiznit.
As much as I want to roll with Dutch's Gang, robbing banks and shit, if they make DLC around those early events, it might be nice to portray them in with less (or even opposite) bias; possibly using a different main character on the other side of the law, for instance.
I'd like to hear less of the "GUBMENT IS MESSIN WIT US" shit. Everything else I'd fuck a sheep to get more of.I'm reading a brief history of America, and the idea that people there would be near obsessed with big government intervention isn't all that surprising.
workaround for getting into free roam: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/957922-red-dead-redemption/55308293For convenience:
start single player
start xbox private match
join a public match
presto
apparently free roam is glitched now, jump into a hideout and it will automatically clear, giving you 500 XP. Replay it infinitely for MAX XP. Man I wish I was at home :(
actually TBH this is a bit of a disaster, everyones gonna be level 50 now and toting buffalo rifles. R* have screwed the pooch with the multiplayer, this is gonna send people away in droves. Also hampering MP player retainablilty and potential DLC sales. Im at a loss as to why the dont just pull the damn servers while they fix this.
spoiler (click to show/hide)Luisa was the girl with the knife who was killed running to save the tied-up Reyes during the final mission. The guards shoot her, and in turn, Marston kills the guards.[close]
Also, InfectedGib and I were talking about how, if they do a character pack download, they should just go nuts and do blatant knockoffs of The Lone Ranger and Tonto, Zorro, Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp, William Munny, basically a bunch of famous historical and fictional Old West charactersI'm your huckleberry.
Im still waiting for the burrito stand DLC, to get my messican fatty even plumperThat would probably attract Demi to the game, so be careful what you wish for.
The co-op missions were really fun. I'd like to play together with Eel and Sceneman next weekend, if you two dodes are free. :heartbeat
Man Im so keen to play more Red Dead. My flatmate has bogarted my copy

^ Good shit! Im real down to go for the Wild Bunch title. Also the one where you gotta kill a Public Enemy player while youre a Public Enemy. MUST GET ALL FREE ROAM CHALLENGES!
Man Im so keen to play more Red Dead. My flatmate has bogarted my copy
also i keep playing with random people who apparently stick their headset microphones directly into their nostrils, so it will be nice to play some more with you guys:rofl
i hit a $12k solo bounty tonight in el presidio, at one point i was pulling the triggers so fast my controller started to squeakSo, so down with this.
i know all the spots to park for maximum coverage now, if i can get a couple people together we can get that [Wild Bunch] title in no time
I opened up the north territory a week or so ago, and then got hung up on grabbing a bounty that appears on the top of the snowcapped mountain. I tried and failed several times to get him. I was mauled by a bear right after camp-transporting into the area. It became a moral imperative to take this bounty in alive, but I kept screwing up. I forgot about deadeye, ended up marking targets on his escape horse which overlapped with his falling figure... and, yeah, bears.
Then I had a run which seemed to be working really well: I killed his henchmen, who came out nearly in a neat little chorus line for me, then the bounty target showed up without an escape horse, thinking to off me his'self. Finally, there I am on this steep approach to his hideout, just him and me, and I lasso him to the ground.
I hogtie him, and the UI reads "Pick up the hogtied criminal..." but in the very next instant, where I should pick him up to put him on my horse, the physics simulation kicks in and it treats the bounty-guy as any other inanimate object on a steep, snowy slope: The guy shoots away from me like a winter olympics luge sled and shoots down the path to the curve, and he zooms over the edge and off the cliff face. A moment later, the message changes to "Loot the body to get proof of the bounty." I started laughing so hard, I nearly killed myself trying to get down the same cliff to the body.
Good enough.
Im at work and wont be on for another 8 hours :P
okay lets play tonight Ichi.

I was out of it last week, but I've still not finished the singleplayer, and I'm determined to get all the new "freebie" Achievements. Or as many as I can.
just finished fort mercer and got my treasure hunter outfitYou mean you finished the main story mission, or the follow-up one? If you haven't been to Mexico or the North yet, you've got a ways to go, even if you're not doing a mess of side missions..

Here's hoping we see a Phantom Locomotive in the Undead Nightmare Pack .\m/
i think we all know when the undead nightmare pack is coming, hope there'll be some weird west action in multi besides just character skins

That WOULD be cool. :rock
I haven't quite figured out why they pulled the normal locomotive from Free Roam. It doesn't seem like it could be easily abused. ???

Do you remember that weird horse that one legendary character was using when we were doing that posse? I kept wondering if it was a glitch and realized no skinned horses look like that (no lower jaw, tongue hanging out, missing one front leg, looked like it had been clawed by cougars or something). Was it a glitched version of one of the horses that's going to show up in the undead nightmare pack, or something?

It would probably just be too laggy. If you play "The River" co-op mission, sometimes people with a laggy connection start flopping around and ghosting on the raft, and one time in particular this guy slid all the way off the raft and took me down with him. I'd imagine it would be much worse if everyone on the Free Roam decided to converge on a moving train at the same time.i think we all know when the undead nightmare pack is coming, hope there'll be some weird west action in multi besides just character skins

Could have been that, or it could have been a glitched version of the "Dark Horse" from single player that you get if your honor drops low enough.
got 1080/1100 now, just need the level 50 cheev 8)Holy smackerel. I'm impressed!
Eel has basically described himself as the reluctant gang initiate. :lol
"... it wasn't supposed to be like this. Not like this." :lol
do all the free roam challenges/titles youve earned reset when you pass into legend?
you keep your unlocked titles and charactersYeah, you lose your mounts, but you gain access to "Legendary Mounts" and apparently access to new mounts is accelerated compared to the initial level distribution. You keep your character access (hence my uber-hot caberet dancer) and your titles.
all challenges, mounts, and weapons are reset
I remember I number of popular sites comparing the PS3 version with the the 360's, what were the main differences?
If the latter has a more stable framerate I might sell PS3 copy, buy the 360's and gift it to my brother who's been dying to play it.
and honestly a little scared because if there's a message in the story at all, it's that you can't escape your past.
Our next title update, planned for release on both Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network within the next month, will include measures to counter hacking and cheating. Those who have been detected to be cheating beyond a shadow of doubt will be promptly banned from the Red Dead online world for a period of our discretion.
Additionally, the title update will provide some anti-grief relief with some new features in Free Roam. Those who are being bullied repeatedly in Free Roam will be given the option to flee by Transporting and respawning in a region of the map of their choosing. And those who are bullying repeatedly will face a new challenge: when a player gets a 6 kill streak in Free Roam, they will become "Most Wanted." This alerts other players of their status as a player-killer, and also sends NPC law response after them.

I dunno about random spawn --I could see that being very annoying if you happen to die accidentally, but if you get killed a whole bunch of times in rapid succession, the game should just stop for a moment and ask if you'd like to teleport to town or something before it puts you back on the map.
i am buying them allDitto.
Derp, sorry. I thought I was the only one left who haven't finished it. :fbm
But nothing was spoiled. I swear.
spoiler (click to show/hide)OHHHHHHHHHH ok.
So should I wait for the credits to roll or is it gonna be open ended for me to complete whatever side missions I forgot about?[close]
Ah, thanks. The credits finally rolled. What a fucking great game.spoiler (click to show/hide)Still depressing as hell. They literally ruined my day.[close]
The world actually seems to be alive! I accidentally shot a guy they were trying to hang yesterday :'(Yeah, I have encountered several variations of that occurrence, and I pulled it off without a hitch the first two times, felt like a stud. Then the next three times it cropped up, Things Went Horribly Wrong. Riding out to the location, we were attacked by a massive pack of wolves, so I drew iron and started firing simultaneously, but ended up priority-targeting the guy I was supposed to be helping. :maf Then I thought to try and help his new widow, but I couldn't locate her. Soon it told me that she'd been killed too. :'( The other times I've just been unable to shoot the rope like I did before. It's surprisingly depressing to fail that mission.
yeah the online is totally sweet. Me and Chronovore play online regularly, If I see you online I'll hit you up!Last weekend's sessions were grand fun. I'm anxious to get back in and play more multiplayer. I'm at lvl 16 again, approaching the legitimate 22 I had before exploiting the "free XP" bug and Passing Into Legend.
iirc the first map I got from a chinese treasure dude getting attacked by bandits. I saved him and he gives the first map as a reward. Id bet you cant dig out the treasure boxes unless youve got the relevant map. i.e you'll have to do em in order
Red Dead music is soooooo overrated. I just pipe in blockbuster soundtracks and rap music off my mp3 player. Oh I played to Vagrant Story OST once, worked really well.HEATHEN!
thought the music was great myself. Really immersed me.Same here. It's better if played loud. Most of the time I play with the volume low so the guns don't wake up my kids; in that case the music is so low as to sound like it's an audio bug; some repetitive whining. When I play "as god intended" (full volume, beer in hand, in my underwear), it's actually pretty moving.

I played some MP tonight, won my first Bag Game but was trounced in shootout FFA games. Bag Games are so much fun!
After the legendary wolf and boar challenges tonight, I decided to try and clear Khan, the legendary jaguar. Some griefer showed up at Tanner's Reach just as I've killed 20 or so cougars to summon Khan. This distinguished triggerhappy gentleman fired on me while I'm trying to put down a half dozen more cougars. While I'm on top of the hill, looking down at the cabin to see who the hell is shooting at me, I see Khan show up, run right behind the guy and slash him from behind. One shot, bye-bye. It made my night.
I got the kill, tried to leave the area, but the gentleman came back and kept shooting at me, so I bailed but wandered unintentionally into the next challenge area, the legendary bear! So I killed a couple bears and the jerk showed up shooting at me again. So shotgunned his horse out from under him and then used both barrels on him again while he's tried to stand up. Then he came back two more times and enjoyed some improvised lead dentalwork. He finally left and I killed my damned bear.
That's why I prefer what Mafia (and I hope Mafia 2) does. You go from story mission to story mission, only occasionally having the option to help out a mechanic friend who'll teach you to steal better cars, and when the game is finished you unlock an open world mode that is is more like the GTA games. Technically The Getaway is similar but boo that game.
The best comic to represent that is still:
Okay, I've put in 15 hours of PvP in the past couple of days so I can answer your questions.Yeah, after watching some YouToobz of people playing MP, I have realized that the times I am doing sniping, I'm doing it wrong. I don't snipe much, but sometimes I am afforded a long shot; in those cases I should be using Dead Eye.
Dead Eye in MP is crap, its only useful from a long a distince with a repeater to make sure a few bullets hit the target. For close range headshots, yeah its waaaaaaaaay to slow. If youre getting one shotted in MP, it means theyre a good shot. I one shot with repeaters all the friggn time now, I won like 10 free for all's yesterday (some with 14+ players). Got a few gold guns too. IM NOT STOPPING UNTIL I GET THEM ALL. GOLDEN BUFFALO RIFLE BAYBEE
Basically you just have to practise snapping into lock-on then moving up quickly for the headshot. Im one-shotting n00bs all the time. No one is cheating.
Can we do it in a Private gang match? Is there such a thing?
Maybe you can help me with the "kill an enemy in midair" 'cheev. I will hit you with a tomahawk in the balls.
Yeah that's a fairly odd concept I never thought of and slightly defeats the point I would think. Part of the charm of buying a character skin is that everybody sees you in that character skin. It's a little weird I suppose to buy something and then a large percentage of the people playing don't actually see you in the skin based on whether or not they bought the same DLC.
I agree with the other people. The revolver costumes should be able to be seen by everyone. Here is why. I use the indian dude, in the dark in certain spots to be stealthy. When you make him appear as a cowboy with WHITE on, or some other color not of my choosing, you are ALTERING my game play and tactics. That just doesn't seem right. If I don't know how I am truly appearing to the other players then why even use them....ya know.....
After giving the DLC a good 10 hours of play I am very satisfied with it for 800 points.
If you like the competitive modes the new maps are great, substantial tweaks have been made to them, so Fort Mercer for instance has all kinds of extra rooms and ladders and things for sneaking up on people. Only dud map in the bunch is Escalera (and Thieves Landing is just average). I love Blackwater and the Rio Bravo tomahawk a-thon.
The single player tomahawk challenges are just that, challenging, and will take at least an hour to get through.
The new (old) characters are funny I guess but everyone plays with them so Im kinda sick at looking at them. Ive already got the character specific cheevs so Im back to my Mexican now.
A+ DLC would buy again. Really hanging out for the horse racing and poker DLC!
Okay. I've played about 5 hours of this and it is amazing. This is the gta4 I wanted. GODDAMN. Every other minute I'm unlocking something new.

“Will you please release a new patch that allows people who haven’t downloaded the DLC be able to see the new characters....
I mean they can already see our new titles and our new tomahawks they can even pick them up so R* please fix this” – 10490520
“Hi just wondering if you guys are gonna allow people that haven't got the new DLC to see other people using the new characters. I have the DLC but my friends don't so whilst I'm playing as Red Harlow, My friends only see me playing as the first cattle rustler. Is this going to be fixed?” – received via Mouthoff
Never let it be said we don’t listen to our fans!
Due to popular demand, we are going to release a pack for free download on both Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network which will provide compatibility to allow those who do not have the Legends & Killers Pack to still be able to see other players that do who are playing as Revolver characters. Of course, you will still have to purchase, download and install the Legends & Killers Pack if you want to play as those characters yourself.
These things take some time to create, test and release – so please be patient and we’ll keep you updated as to when to expect it to be available – likely in the next few weeks.
Some notes to be aware of:
* This will not apply to those people who simply took advantage of temporary exploits to rapidly grind up XP a few weeks ago. We are able to tell who actually hacked their save to have impossible scores.
Well, I think I take instruction pretty well, so will be more than happy to help you nail the challenge next time we play. You reckon its do-able with 2 people or do we need more?
ALso there is a title: "The Coward". Kill a most wanted player while you are most wnated. We can go for that too.
Try and get on this weekend!
i know, that and the weird west pack (i don't think it's purely zombies) will be pretty awesome, plus the free roam pack (which has to be free) will flesh out the rest of the gang hideoutsA couple of my Japanese friends are excited to get the J-localized RDR in October, but they're worried I'll be "done" with the game by then. HAHAHAHAHAH~! Fun game is fun. Though if I get to Lvl. 50 again, this time I will probably sit at Lvl. 50 until I'm done with the game, then mop up that 'cheev.
i'll be playing this through the winter, for sure
FUCKING HORSESHOES MAN
lol, thats what you get for playing a Sony. Enjoy your suxx-axis controls
It is? Hmm.I said "Achievement," not "Trophy" FWIW. I have only a very limited understanding of Sony's Trophy implementation.
Time for more RDR!
how some people might be getting all those headshots in hardcore aiming mode:

I use a dry erase marker. right on my TV screen. When I'm done I just wipe it off. If this idea makes you nervous you can test it in a corner where it wouldn't be noticeable but it shouldn't be a problem
Huh.I remember doing something similar in Double Dragon II on the NES to get past those damn disappearing platforms towards the end of the game. I put black electrical tape on my screen so I'd know where to jump. I thought it was pretty ingenious for being being only 8 years old.
This is something I was just thinking about trying this morning. I realized from using the sniper rifles in single player that the main reason people "get lost" for a few instants is because it's literally the center of the screen, not the user's perceived center based on the third-person camera. I felt like I'd only use the sniper in multiplayer if I had a center-of-screen reference mark before drawing the weapon.
It hadn't dawned on me that it would be useful in all cases, esp. if Expert aim is in use.
That guy who chimes in and calls this "cheating" -- :rofl Yeah, um... no.
:rofl
The other day I was running my stallion at TOP SPEED around the MacFarlene Ranch and and suddenly John was in a house and I couldn't get out :rofl
We are excited to bring you our next packs, starting with the September 21st 2010 debut of our Free Roam release: the Liars and Cheats Pack, which focuses on expanding the Free Roam multiplayer experience as well as adding new modes to Competitive Multiplayer.

Multiplayer Poker and Liar's Dice Games

With sales of 6.9m for the recently released Red Dead Redemption, you can bet your horse on the fact that work on the next game in the series is well underway – and MCV was recently told what it’s called.
Speaking to MCV under strict conditions of intoxication, one employee of a services provider currently working on some early technical work for the game casually referred to it as Red Dead Revolution.
Before brushing the comment aside and pretending that nothing had happened.
The name, if correct, certainly sits in with previous treatment of the brand. Those of you with long memories will remember that prior to the official announcement of Red Dead Redemption, many were referring to the game as Red Dead Revolution.
And just prior to the release of the last title, Rockstar released a trailer for the game called – yes, you guessed it – Revolution.

Official confirmation of the name is unlikely to emerge this side of Christmas, so it’s likely to be a long wait to find out how accurate our wine-supping friend has been.
i hope this eventually gets ported to PC
that horse kind of sucks (i tried it out), it's the slowest horse in the game

So there won't be a 360 version of the sequel? :drake
does anyone want a Golden Guns Weapon Pack code for the 360?
I was checking my old email and I think Amazon gave me two (one in the game box, one through email).
I honestly am excited to hear what his in-game taunts are. Seth's too.

He should be able to toss bottles of Tonic to stun and poison enemies.
Explosive Rifle turns enemies into a fine red mist. Will buy. (Though I'm worried about its effect in PVP)
there are no unlockable marshals in this pack, maybe in the free outfit pack
I've got one gripe about the DLC: What is the purpose of gambling, except gambling? There are a few Challenges associated with each game, but there is no XP reward for competing, or even winning. You just get "multiplayer money," which is used for... more gambling.
All this, plus new Achievements and Trophies to collect as well as 15 new multiplayer characters taken directly from the Red Dead Redemption single player story. To commemorate the launch of the Liars and Cheats Pack, we are also proud to announce that we will be having another Double XP Weekend, starting this coming Friday (September 24th) at 1PM Eastern, and lasting until 11:59PM Eastern on Sunday (September 26th).:heartbeat :whip :hump :elephant

It's not that I don't like it or anything. It was just a weird "huh... the game keeps going eh?" moment for me.Yeah, you've got a little bit to go. There are still story missions spawning, so you know this isn't the end yet. And even after it seems over, it's not entirely finished. Which in itself is ironic, considering John's history and goals.
Ithink it may just be a 'dream' or something"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds"spoiler (click to show/hide)Screenshots have a zombie Abagail, which is either the bestest multiplayer model or a sign that it's non-canon, for sure[close]
Credits? Didn't see any credits. Then there's somethin' left fer ya to do.
I think the 10 minute public enemy achievement is my new favourite of all time. Not because it's a particularly good achievement, but because it's funny to make people rrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaage when you ruin their attempts at it.Yeah, and it doesn't even count as griefing, because the game is also counting the number of Public Enemies you kill, PEs you kill /while/ a PE, etc.

If I wanted to buy this today, would I be totally screwed if I didn't buy all the DLC?

You don't even have to touch the MP. I only really played the SP and its still easily a GOTY contender from that part alone.
Well, let's say I wanted to touch the Multiplayer (I liked the MP in GTA4) will I have a hard time playing without the DLC?
Ithink it may just be a 'dream' or somethingwould be sweet if it acted as a sequel. Have John rise from his grave to stop the zombie outbreak then once his mission is accomplished he must pass on to the other side.
Sceneman's been saying the 26th, hasn't he?
Hey, man, where did you hear that date?
Rockstar has announced extra details on Undead Nightmare for Red Dead Redemption, along with a stand-alone DLC retail disc.
First up, the Undead Nightmare Pack will feature four zombie classes, each “possessing unique characteristics, attacks, and defenses. There will be some mythical creatures roaming the frontier, alongside zombie cougars, bears, wolves and many more”.
To kill the denizens of the undead, you must use non-traditional weaponry. Thankfully, you can use the the new Blunderbuss, which can be loaded with looted remains of fallen zombies. The Tomahawk and the Explosive Rifleare also back, and will be available exclusively for those who downloaded the Legends and Killers Pack and the Liars and Cheats Pack.
Undead Nightmare also features: “new challenges, quests, and ambient events, including Missing Persons, where the player must find a missing survivor lost amongst the throngs of undead”.
New competitive multiplayer and multiplayer free roam content has also been added, and includes: Undead Overrun, a “brand new multiplayer survival mode where waves of infected attack and players must work together to stay alive against increasingly difficult odds”.
Also coming soon, Undead Nightmare which is a single, stand-alone disc bundling together the Undead Nightmare Pack, the Outlaws to the End Co-Op Mission Pack, the Legends and Killers Pack, the Liars and Cheats Pack and all the Multiplayer Free Roam modes released to date.
The disc also includes additional multiplayer via the new Graveyard Mode. It’s a survival mode where “waves of infected enemies attack” and players must work together to stay alive against increasingly difficult odds.
Sounds a bit like Undead Overrun.
Undead Nightmare will be available at retail stores everywhere for $29.99/£24.99/€29.99 and does not require a copy of Red Dead Redemption to play. No date yet, just “coming soon”.
The Undead Nightmare Pack will be available on Xbox Live and PSN for 800 MSP/ $9.99/£7.99/€9.99 on October 26 and does require the disc, of course.
Oh, and yeah, holding shit from DLC is fucked. Super fucked. The fuck is wrong with this generation sometimes?

it's a toss-up, depends on how into multiplayer stuff you are, you can find the original for around $30 used now
SP portion of Undead is between 5-12 hours depending on if you do all the challenges and side quests
I made the plunge and bought it on PS3. I hope theres a tutorial on how to play again or something because I haven't touched it since May and I can't remember a damn thing.

I'm speaking of strictly new purchases. I don't buy used games unless I can't find them new, so RDR is $60 to me. On that scale, which is a better value?
How big is the undead nightmare download? My wussy little 20GB HDD is packed in to the maximum.
Chronovore you'd better be on this weekend to take down some zomboids with the Sceneman

I bought this at Amazon on Black Friday for $29, really looking forward to trying it out.
Got in undead nightmare. Enjoyable enough so far.I've probably already mentioned this on this board somewhere, but the writing in Undead Uprising seems less like the stolid RDR environment and has more in common with the previous era of Rockstar: Bully, GTA3/VC/San Andreas... it's more over the top, unbelievable, gross, violent and altogether awesome.
At first you're like this is so cheesy and stupid its bad. And then you play a bit more and you realize its so cheesy and stupid its kinda cool.
RDR sounds like crap if the best thing you can say about it is that it's relaxing. If I just wanna relax, I might as well play/watch flow or dust off the WII for some Mario auto-piloting.It's relaxing compared to GTA, in as much as just driving around, you're not in danger of clipping a cop car and then having to outrun your Wanted level just getting around town. Sure, if you do get a Wanted level, it's basically the same mini-game (though it's just a matter of outrunning them and not trying to do it with side streets, or avoiding other ones in your path) but the odds of clipping anyone and getting that Wanted level are lower because the world is less populous.
The worst was when I went to the mining town and it's like "hi you need to go steal shit from miners" and when you enter they start blasting you and you have to fight them off. I'm a nice guy. I don't want to go murder an entire town of miners for no reason wtf. Game needs more options for non-killing people. Still better than GTA games where you're basically a criminal.
(...) if that lack of consistency is troubling, Mexico isn't going to be much fun.
Viva la mexico!
I have set foot on foreign land :omg
While the first hour or two of the game gave the initial impression that it was just GTA in the west, that couldn't be more wrong. At this point I can see how RDR was on so many GoTY lists and I can't quite disagree with them. Definitely the best Rockstar game I've played and one of the most impressive sandbox environments ever.
I took a look at the achievements finally and was a little bummed to see so many multiplayer achievements. I thought maybe this would be like AC2 where if you really get into the SP and do all the missions & collect-a-thons you basically get 1000/1000.
I'll know!Thanks, boo. :-*
Alright, going for the 100% stuff is a good way to stop liking the game! Not doing that again :( Wasted all night doing boring unfun grindy stuff. The Survival Ranks blow chunks, it's true. And if you want them in Multiplayer, you have to do them again, but with griefers sniping you when you're gathering flowers.
Catching up on all the survival rank stuff SUCKS. Collecting herbs is so boring and finding all the animals and collecting them is boring too. All they had to do was make it so you could accomplish the tasks in any order and that way everytime you were in a new area and saw a new herb you could stop and collect a bunch. It's distinguished mentally-challenged to have to collect herbs/kill animals you've already collected/killed but they didn't count because you did it before you hit that specific rank.
The other thing that was annoying was the mini-games. I'll never be able to beat 6 matches in a row of five-finger fillet >_< And I don't have the patience to play poker until every person has been knocked out of the table, jeez.
Will stick to the last few strangers missions & main story missions and call it a day.
It's so hard to believe this came from the people who made the sucky GTAIVRockstar San Diego(engine central) made this game(SP),Rockstar North(GTA central) helped(made) multiplayer,i think
The graphics, wow, I can honestly say even after Crysis and Uncharted and all that jazz, RDR to me is the best looking videogame I've played. At times when riding around, the land it looks stunningly realistic.
About GTA 4...I like it,but yeah it's kinda sucky, biggest problem is the lack of checkpoints, hate that
Why?Because replaying sucky missions makes me :maf
Episodes have them,so things are moving :)
There was one interview with Dan Houser were he said that the biggest RDR problem was how to make the world interesting, outside of main missions
I'm so happy this game did so well. Not only was it my GOTY for 2010, but it managed to shut the yaps of many games industry analysts who thought it might move one million units... two at the most. Ha!

My problem with the GTA games (besides the gameplay stuff like frustrating missions with no checkpoints and annoying driving/traffic) is that they are always about criminal low-lifes being scummy criminals. I don't really enjoy playing as these characters or find their stories interesting. I don't really care about mafias or gangs or whatnot.
In RDR you finally were playing as a decent guy. Sure he was a bad guy in the past, but in the present he was a honest man. Likewise, a lot of the story characters were normal non-scum people (although there were definitely both). Helping out Bonnie at her ranch and stuff was just a totally different atmosphere than GTA. I like games like AC2 or RDR where you're playing as a good guy instead of a crook.
Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in!
a number of changes were applied via updates, and currently the two free DLC packs are the Co-op mission pack, and the Hunting and Trading Outfits.
Hunting and trading outfits give you extra singleplayer challenge to unlock the costumes. I should actually go back and get the hunting outfit. The trading outfit was awesome as it made all guns half price, and I got the explosive rifle for 5000 as opposed to 10000
we also got the marshals skin pack for mp
It's a western. Taking in the landscape on horseback is mandatory; and it is done justice in RDR.
Maybe I was just pissed off at that stupid horse race and any riding I did after that annoyed me even more. Then I fell down the mine shaft trying to find the Funny ManThere is a mine shaft you can fall down and die? News to me.
stupid game has given me a new horse :mafWell, there goes the "20 story missions with the same horse" Achievement. I had to start a New Game to get that one. Not that I am complaining. This is probably my favorite game of the last 5 years.
they should make a Walton's Gang spin off game. I'd buy itYEAH! Screw all that moral ambiguity and the inability to escape your past actions! Let's rape the farmer's daughter and steal shit!
$1000? wat?
Man fuck GTAV, I want a new RDR :'((http://i.imgur.com/wkkxa.gif)
I'm still kinda surprised we don't know for sure what Rockstar's next game is.
GTAV was a loooooong time ago, even counting the wads of resources they threw at the HD versions, they should still have at least a few other games cooking. More like low-heat simmering I suppose.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/08/21/red-dead-redemption-has-shipped-14-million-copies
Rockstar calling it "a permanent franchise" now. Hopefully this means Redder Deader Redemption in a year or so.
I still need to get the final poker-related Achievement, and 10× multiplier in Advanced Co-Op mission.

"We do not agree with the allegations in the Gamasutra post (e.g. there has been no reduction in health benefits or ancillary benefits and perks (such as free dinners and massages etc), wage increases across the studio have kept track with cost of living increases, and anyone who feels they have been overlooked for a bonus for a game they worked on please contact HR to discuss as soon as possible)."
These statements are really twisting the truth, or an outright lie.
The benefits across the board over the last 3 years have gotten worse or cost the employees more, their choice. Sure, they still have medical and dental (so they haven't technically cut back), but to get nearly the same benefits you had 3 years ago you have to pay 2-3 times the money. When coupled with the minor (or non-existent) raises, you ended up making less money. Because of this, people had to choose the lesser HRA option.
And no, free dinners and massages weren't removed, but donut fridays were scaled back to once every other week and replaced with homemade scones. Team snacks were removed, as were free sodas and gatorade.
I’ve mentioned before, but I have been informed by a former Rockstar employee that I dodged a bullet when they decided to change the job description of the one I had been applying for. I love their product, I don’t want to make it in the environment I have heard about.
Yeah, did the original RDR ever come out on PC? Rumor had it that it couldn't be ported because it was held together with chewing gum and baling wire. That was the unofficial official statements they made when talking about what they changed for Max Payne 3 where they basically trashed the process behind previous games. (Of which there are three.) :lol
The best hope for Red Dead Redemption on PC is a PS3 emulator (RPCS3).THEY'RE BETTER IN BRINGING FORTH THE HIDDEN PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR OF THE GAME:

360 emulators aren't as far along yet, I don't think.
You should make a new thread, chrono. This one is old as dirt. :P
I also eventually want Undead Nightmare 2, Rockstar. :hyper
