Ryan barely played games anymore. Just listen to the Bombcast and you'll notice his turn during "Whatcha Been Playing" is laughably short. He's the literal casual gamer in the bunch.

Wow, what the fuck is up with Heavy Armor? All the event impressions said that the game worked pretty well and seemed kinda exciting. Maybe the event version was better at tracking?

Im fine with people not liking it, but this year was the WORST for hyperbolic opinions of games. ME3 and Diablo 3 being the worst to deal with. If not for Borderlands 2, Diablo III would be my game of the year. ME3 while not my GOTY, was easily better than the first game, and did a decent job wrapping up the story AS EXPECTED FOR A VIDEOGAME STORY - but then they caved to crybaby fans and THAT is what ruined things and made them cynical. Gamers were HORRIBLE PEOPLE in 2012

really? because i didn't give a single fuck about any of those dudes. I played through all of BL1 and had no idea who or what Bloodwing was during that mission.
Im not against it getting mad props, but its kind of a shame its getting the good as both a 'small download game' and 'box release'. Seems to be shutting some of the smaller download only efforts out of getting deserved mentions.

You check out a car building sim, spend about a minute on the actual car building, abandon it to go do random stuff and then ask "This is what this game is gonna be from now on, it's just like broken physicsy things that are fun for their funkiness? :/" No! It's a game about in-depth building of a car that wonderfully simulates all kinds of issues if you mess something up. It's like fucking around in the train station in half life 2 for a hour and ignoring the actual gameplay.

I never drove a car but I built one in 4 hours (excluding the initial hours of messing around) thanks to the wiki. It's a flawed way to judge a game. Car building is it's main feature, so you can't say that it's not fun because you skipped it.

I feel like I just listened to vinny realizing he's dan's new foster dad.... good practice!
One of my secret favorite on-going subplots in the mailbags over the last year or so is Dan proclaiming that someone, usually he, should eat or drink some weird thing. Then Jeff tries to kibosh it and play the voice of reason. Jason and Drew subtly try to egg Dan on. While Vinny or Brad asks Jeff "do I let him? should I?" and seems torn over the whole thing.:nerds
It usually ends in Dan freaking out after barely tasting it then Jason and/or Drew calmly consuming it as if it's no big deal.

My perspective and yours are obviously subjective but the combination of losing that core group's chemistry and being sold to Gamespot made an irreversible directional shift in the tone of the site.

On the one hand, I cringe a little bit whenever I read the daggers people throw at public Vidya personalities like the clearly misogynic shit people would throw at Abby or the PC Master Race or System Wars shit throw at Jeff or the Digital Foundry guys.
Also I'm finding it lame that so much of the harassment or criticism towards online personalities comes from people looking for validation for their tastes or system choices. For Giant Bomb in particular, I'm here for the fuckery and to get a gist of game releases. Super cringe at (presumably) grown-ass men harassing them directly for "console bias" or because their GOTY lists didn't align.
On the other hand, isn't the premise behind personality based patronage through subs or Patreons based on valuing the content/personalities? And much of the content itself is based on being critical of other content. I mean, Ben of all people didn't have a problem going in on that Ubisoft "Breath of the Wild" clone because it was Dreamworks-level unfunny to him but it's not fair game to say that I nope the fuck out of a Quick Look if it's a Ben/Jason/Rorie joint? And they didn't have a problem shitting on that new Yuji Naka game last week.
Jeff looked pretty defeated on his last Jar Time video. It can be a little frustrating how cynical he can be sometimes(and how he'll deny it and take umbrage if people bring it up) but I totally get him being "too old for this shit" and my favorite streams nowadays are probably still his solo MISTer streams. I feel bad for him and Vinnie trying to bring up a family and keeping the site afloat. Hopefully if it folds they'll be able to land on their feet, Jeff Green style.

Dude has been just straight up lucky to get in on the ground floor of a consultant group that is fed by loads of capital investment firms looking for that next big thing in the industry. And it literally put his ass in the hospital at the end of the day. He did make loads of money though.Yeesh, I stopped following Jeff Green on Twitter after Trump because I try to avoid constant political doomposting on my feed but I assumed he was still working as a consultant with N'Gai Croal's consultancy company, which seems like the least ethically compromised way to pivot out of games journalism with no other marketable skills. He seemed in good spirits on his podcast interview series last year.
Jeff and Vinnie will eventually have to make a choice and I don’t look forward to that day. I love their banter and knowledge but realize they can’t keep things up for much longer.

It appears RV is turning that office space into something else and Jeff said even if everyone wasn’t spread out across the country there wouldn’t be a “viable studio space” to return to regardless.

It's great to provide constructive criticism, but devolving into trash talking is really unkind and unnecessary. We are all presumably here because we have enjoyed what the team has created over the years for us to enjoy. We are also still currently reeling from the impact of the global pandemic which has created large shifts in the games coverage industry and has affected people personally in a bunch of different ways. It is totally understandable that there is a shaking of the status quo going on.
What we need to do as fans is provide quality feedback about the service they're providing us. It's very, very easy to make a huge list of all the stuff you hate. It's much harder, but very valuable, to also provide a list of what you are enjoying. If we provide one without the other it's incredibly difficult for them to make informed decisions about what to do.
Providing exclusively negative feedback in disrespectful ways is not something we as a community should tolerate.

I miss the Beastcast. Boss Bakalar is kind of a smug, snarky prick now that he doesn’t have anyone to check him. Mike on Fire Escape goes too hard with the weird voices and boner jokes. Vinny has to play off Brad and Alex now who suck all the fun out of a room. Surprisingly Dan is the most tolerable now that he’s a little more open minded and flexible with the format and game selection on his streams. Good for him.
