Title: WARFRAME IS PRETTY GOOD
Post by: fistfulofmetal on January 26, 2013, 05:29:24 PM
so i got a warframe beta key from: http://www.incgamers.com/2013/01/get-your-warframe-beta-keys-in-our-giveaway/

played for an hour or so. i am legit surprised. it's pretty darn good.

It's super responsive and shooting feels good. you got your melee attacks which are pretty basic but it's fun to chop dudes in half. i like that it has a bunch of different mission types to shake things up. however i only played for a short time so i dont know how MUCH variety there actually is. leveling up your dude, getting weapons mods and credits, all that is pretty fun as well. game also looks really nice to boot! good change of pace in the F2P model since everything is competitive multiplayer zzzzzz. reminds me of the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer but with better shooting.

so go ahead and give this a shot. it ain't bad.

I considered starting a new topic... but this one seems good enough..

I just started warframe. I really have no clue what I am supposed to do.

I have a hydroid Prime and 4K platinum that I got from a price error on steam last year, is there anything I should be using it on?

I can already see how some say this is like a better Destiny.

Save your platinum for Warframe and weapon slots.

Don't discard frames or weapons once you've maxed them out (at level 20; maxing them out earns you account XP, i.e. Mastery Rank, which is used to gate progression).

Learn how to bullet jump and fly through levels. (Crouch from a run to slide. Jump from a slide to bullet jump.)

Bookmark the wiki, you'll need it:
http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Beginners_Guide

As for progression, just follow the starchart for now. Each planet is locked behind a gate that demands certain requirement to be met. If you don't know how to fulfill one of them, consult the wiki.
Opening the gates will give you decent rewards too, so look at them before you drop credits on a weapon.

Thanks.

I had tried this out briefly when the PS4 launched, and man it seems like it is about 1000x better now. Much more stuff and way more polished.

Digital Extremes always seemed like a good developer that needed publisher support, sane development goals/timelines, and the ability to take a second crack at things. After they left Epic they had trouble finding at least one of those things.

Though The Darkness II was pretty solid. And Star Trek was better than both of JJ's films. (And I assume those were what paid for a good chunk of Warframe's initial development.)

Quote
Leyou is a Chinese company.

Until 2014, the company was known as Sumpo Food, and its main business was supplying chicken meat.

In 2015, Leyou became part-owner of Canadian developer Digital Extremes...
In July 2016, the sale of British games developer Splash Damage to Radius Maxima (a Leyou subsidiary)
In May 2018, Leyou launched a video game publishing label known as Athlon Games based in California and headed by former Warner Bros.Interactive executive Dave Miller
I want them to change their name and the label back to Sumpo Food. The other way to make this story better is to find out they supply chicken for YUM! Brands.

Ive played a bit more (name is MrSaver I think).

I’m pretty shocked how well it compares to something like destiny... except for I can’t really figure out how to party up. The story telling is probably better and the story itself is probably better.

The gameplay imo is more varied. Destiny has this feel like you are moving through molasses, and this feels comparatively speedy.

I don’t find most of the warframe abilities very interesting but I mostly have been playing one warframe.

I’m kind of shocked how expensive these prime access bundles are. Like people are really paying $150 to access like two warframes?

I'm usually a whale in F2P games and I haven't spent a dollar on Wowframe.

I've spent around $15ish over the past 3-4 years on WF.  All cosmetic stuff, cuz I'm a sucker for that, as long as my character looks cool as shit and the price is decent, then why not.  I usually wait till there are sales on platinum, which happens from time to time.  Right now, I'm 6 platinum short of getting a certain color palette I want, but don't feel like dropping $5 just to get it atm.  :-\   Gonna wait till there's the 50% discount daily log in bonus for that.
The gameplay imo is more varied. Destiny has this feel like you are moving through molasses, and this feels comparatively speedy.
I can't even imagine going back to Destiny, tbph.
I need to post a pic my Nova frame when I get a chance.  :D

I feel like my warframe looks pretty cool even though I didn’t earn it, since I got the hydroid Prime tentacle porn pack for like $8 when it had a price error on steam.

I didn’t really notice it was a black beard-looking pirate until I got in game though and saw it in motion.

I also have something called trinity Prime I think from twitch and of course the boring looking Excalibur.

I’m still working through the regular missions but it’s pretty cool so far.

This game definitely feels like Destiny on a budget and yet I'm enjoying it more than I ever did Destiny. I think the jump mechanics in Warframe help a lot. I quit Destiny 2 because of a jump puzzle that was dumb as shit for Warlocks.

I've been out of town the past two weeks and having WF withdrawals.  I quit Destiny 2 because, while playing it, I kept asking myself, ...why am I not just playing Warframe instead?

I just beat Vor and am not really sure what I should be doing next.

It looks like I can go to eidolon, but I seem sort of low level for it. Also I think i can go to Venus if I kill some eximus enemies, but I’m not really sure what those are or how to find them.

And start the grind all over again?  Worked too hard to get where I'm at on the PS4 one.  I suppose I could try start with the Rhino one...  (Originally started with the Mag.)
EDIT:  Oh yeah.hehe.. I've been using my hotspot on my phone for everything. lol So downloading a game right now ain't happening.
Also what are those two frames above? My hydroid can’t do anything that cool.
The big explosion one is the basic Nova frame with one of the few different helmets.  That move is one of it's abilities where you shoot this slow moving orb you can direct, and the more you shoot the orb, the more of a charge it builds for the explosion.  Bit tricky to use at first, but can be crazy lethal when done right.  The other one... not sure.  But I want to say that that weapon is one of the few Gunblades you can get.

I have only about 50 hours logged on mine and I'm still learning what all this game throws at you.  Practically every sesh I'm in, I got the wiki open trying to figure stuff out.

Have you done the archwing missions yet?  Maybe that's the next step?  If you haven't, those missions are fun too.  It's totally Zone of Enders.

I haven’t done any archwing missions.

I’m not really sure how to get to them. I see something in my foundry about building 50 archwing launchers or something like that, but not sure if those are the same as the actual archwings.

Eximus enemies are like rares/yellows from Diablo. They have a golden sheen, are stronger and have special abilites, like frost auras and such. You'll notice them immediately. Do a wave based mission on Earth, you're guaranteed to encounter some.

This page is useful while you're still starcharting.

That's the mission(s) leading to it basically, yeah.  You have to find the materials, craft the parts and then build it.  Welcome to the grind!   :D  It's not too bad early on though... when trying to build a whole new warframe from scratch though, that's where the grind gets real.

Yeah I just finished grinding for my Dog egg, and now I apparently have to grind for parts to build the power source to hatch my Dog egg.

My favorite part of this game is the color customization. I have made my Warframe and ship as garish as possible and I love it. Twirling my ninja around with a hot pink and green cape is great.

I played a bit on PS4. It is stunningly polished looking for a F2P, but golly it's every bit as bad at educating its players, as well as re-educating them if they come back to the game and want to pick up where they'd left off.

Initially it was more of a co-op shooter in instances with minor RPG elements ala Borderlands but they went crazy fleshing it out with content. And then they added the insane movement system to it and it really took off. Then they added the gobs of content to customize your warframe.

Even crazier, some of its founding concepts are based off the scrapped ones for Dark Sector:

You can turn off lots of effect on switch btw, like dof, motion blur etx

You cloned your account, BTW- your PC account is still there and separate so you can go back to it.   :)

Turning off motion blur was one of the first things I did.  Was enjoying the game and then went into a mission with some other players, the host quit towards the end, and it kicked all of us out and the mission has to be done all over again.  I hate it when games do this.  No host migration?  :-\

Supposedly because they had been linking releases across platforms and didn’t want to have to wait on console updates to update pc.

Currently you can’t move accounts or progress or whatever.

I am officially too stupid to get the dog breeding module on solo. The survival mission always ends with me suffocating to death or whatever it is that makes the mission fail*. Multi is no option on a 3G or public hotspot, which is where I can play during my downtime. Tried twice, with disastrous results.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
(* As an aside: I'd have preferred an increasingly painful DOT effect to health instead of insta-failure... these frames run around in ridiculous environments including complete vacuum all day, it's kinda hard to believe that they'd just immediately shut down once there was no more air in the room or whatever)
[close]

Anyway, I must be doing something wrong. I run to the indicated place, kick enemies around, activate the thingamabop once it stops being all hologram-y, then fuck around to wait for the next thingamabop hologram to spawn which creates a new waypoint for me to run to. I know the enemies drop mini survival things but they only drop one every freaking millenium or so. I'm dutyfully slaughtering them by the bucketload, but no dice...

Pretty fun game, remarkable restraint from the devs (they could absolutely ravage their F2P Zombie whales) - but hot damn did they botch the first player experience. Just all around half-assed.

Also removed my first alien zit. Well, that was anticlimactic. Also, the door once more seals up after doing that? Fucking hell. I should've kept the damn thing.

Title: Re: WARFRAME IS PRETTY GOOD
Post by: Corporal on December 06, 2018, 07:11:23 PM
Tried it again. Failed again, with only a few seconds to spare I think. Still, gave up on it. Not a worthy time investment. Progressing at a glacial pace, since I'm limited to about two missions per day. will return when I have some room-cleaning AoE stuff to farm kills and thus survival drops.

I also unlocked the wings (what a shit introductory mission). Kinda fun to zoom around though. And I have gathered all Rhino blueprints, so at least I have something to work towards.

In the meantime, until I grab enough mats and credits to actually craft the damn thing, I bought the cat lady warframe with a 75% off log in coupon since that one came highly recommended and I had the moneys lying around. So now I have a pet, even though the pet-unlocking survival mission still eludes me. Take that, DE! ...and my money, while you're at it.

Why are those space cats and space dogs so fucking ugly though. Ew. Ew Ew Ew. Everything else looks pretty damn nice, why are the pets such an eyesore.

Just a few hours after whining about that survival mission and swearing off trying it again, I casually waltzed through it. The fuck.

Everything simply clicked into place and I had enough time to even go on a bit of a treasure hunt after surviving for long enough. Kinda crazy that the difficulty level is so inconsistent, but eh, I'm not gonna cry all too loudly about unexpectedly getting past that roadblock with such contemptible ease.

Two days to cook your doggo is a bit overkill though. Ordis just won't shut up about it. Stuff a sock in it, blinky bits. I don't care how you're bonding with it, it's gonna be turned into a popsicle or Lotus burger patty once I'm done with the quest, anyway.

That twitch live drop scheme is so transparent and dull. Still, it worked on me, to my never ending shame and regret. Initially at least.

Watched someone on my smartphone on the way home, and it was like pulling teeth. Constant begging for subs, emoticon unlocks, convoluted schemes and giveaways for glyphs and whatnot, bot command spam, popups with canned audio and video snippets, etc. Like a cross between a warez IRC channel and a camwhore stream, only with warframe playing in a small area on screen, occasionally. And it was a guy and there were no tits on display to at least appeal to some baser part of me. Felt dirty enduring that for one hour. Old man yelling at cloud, etc pp.

Got a box of fireworks for my trouble. Yay, I guess?  ::)

I don't care how you're bonding with it, it's gonna be turned into a popsicle or Lotus burger patty once I'm done with the quest, anyway.

wait for the despair to kick in as you realize nidus and khora are such rare drops that they are near impossible.

Eh, I bought Khora with a 75% off coupon from the daily login reward thing (using real money and the remainder of the starter money like a manly man of adult age). Mainly because I was warned that she was a bitch and a half to get.

As an aside: My whining worked. Got an Alert that gave me just what I needed. Capture mission to boot, easy peasy.

Next up, please gimme credits, warframe. I need to empty the stores of my clan research facilities before I'm inevitably getting kicked for inactivity and/or being a shrub. Also, jeez, these dojo things are freaking massive. And empty. So very very empty. No trace of those 1 million switch wf players on there, no siree. Or they're there and just aren't getting rendered. CETUS is already a complete slideshow, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some hyper aggressive instancing at work.

Bah, the above don't come with a free cat that doesn't decay and respawns indefinitely. That alone made the choice easy. The vanilla animal companion mechanic in warframe reads like a huge-ass chore.

I guess I'll just have to brave the grind. I've already given up on fashionframe, and catching them all is pretty much impossible at my current glacial pace, so I'll just see where the currents will drag me.
