yeah I'm worried they are holding too much back for future expansions, when this is the WoW problem in reverse - they're competing against years-established TCGs and as much as they want to keep the mechanics simple, they really can't, not if they want the hardcore

If you don't want to create custom decks, you don't ever have to- just play Arena.

Yes, Hearthstone is very streamlined compared to Magic. They got rid of lands, activated abilities, interrupts and other features that makes the game difficult to get into. It makes it a lot easier for new players to get familiarized and it's nice not having to listen to people complaining getting mana screwed/flooded.
...Hearthstone is in no way as balanced a game as MTG, which is one of the most well designed and strenuously play-tested games in existence. Constructed Hearthstone is laughable. Arena is pretty fun, but that's because it LIMITS WHAT YOU CAN DO. If you can just build with whatever you wanted, you'd have the same 3 decks or whatever the number is that's viable.

Blizzard has announced the upcoming single-player adventure mode for collectible card game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.
Curse of Naxxramas is set in the necropolis of Naxxramas, which will be familiar to World of Warcraft players. Here Kel'Thuzad is the ultimate bad guy in a player versus environment adventure through five unique wings of the dungeon.
The expansion adds 30 new cards to the game, which you get for defeating the adventure's bosses, which include Maexxna, Loatheb and Patchwerk. Each boss has unique cards and hero powers. For example, the Plague Quarter boss, Heigan the Unclean, has an Eruption spell, which does two points of damage to your left most minion, and Mindpocalypse, which causes both players to draw two cards and gain a mana crystal. The completion of each wing rewards you with a guaranteed new Legendary class card.
Meanwhile, Curse of Naxxramas has its own unique game board, and there are nine unique class challenges, which, according to Blizzard, put a "difficult twist" on existing encounters within the adventure. Best these challenges and you get new class-specific cards.
Blizzard will make Curse of Naxxramas available over a five week period, opening its doors wing by wing. The first wing, The Arachnid Quarter, is free for all players. The other wings must be bought with in-game gold or real money. As each wing is released, the cards available from each show up in your Arena picks, even if you haven't earned them for your personal collection, Blizzard said.
Curse of Naxxramas doesn't have a release date yet, but it will be launched simultaneously for PC, Mac and iPad.

As someone who has never played a single warcraft game, or card game for that matter, is this a fun game to get into? I've been thinking about buying the iPad version...The game is free. Download it and give it a try.

Noob question here, but I've been earning about 80 gold a day. Should all that just go into buying more packs for the first few months of playing? Or should I be doing some arena play once in awhile?
It seems to me it would be more efficient to do the arena once you have a wide selection of expert cards at your disposal.
I had Hex (frog), but just couldn't get the pull.
It was that new Legendary (the spider). It's a long name I don't remember. So, every time I ran a minion into it, it would kill that minion.
yea, I'm in a wierd spot now. I want to use the dust to make neutrals that I want/need (Faceless, Knife Juggler, Pyromancer, Auctioneer etc).
I think my best bet is to spend some $$ on this game and then buy a bunch of packs and see where I am at after that.

I still play Hearthstone every week, but not as much as last year. I just do all the dailies while trying to climb the ladder with my druid deck. Got to rank 10 last month that way and 9 in March

I thought I was doing okay then I got to a certain rank... I forgot which where suddenly everyone had legendaries and shit and my cards were just straight up worse compared to them. Read up online on what it took to get up to it and I realized how much further back I was than everyone else already playing so I quit.
That shit's a straight up grindwall without paying in, it's crazy.

So does Arena give out random pack types now? I just got a classic - which I suppose isn't the worst thing since I didn't play for a long stretch and could use some key classic cards, just seems odd.
They need to create an " arena token" which you can exchange for any pack you like.

Really, the best place for new players is on ladder in ranks 20-25. You are going to find a lot more opponents within you experience range there. I would recommend just playing games in there and avoid casual. Once you hit rank 20 though, it turns into a shitshow again.
Hopefully Blizzard finally does something about improving the new player experience in this game. They have acknowledged that it is a problem (especially with all the expansions this game has had), so that's a good first step.

I made it to 9 (with Patron Warrior) but didn't have time on the last day to make a push.
Cajole got a friend quest, play with a friend for 80 Gold. We tried running it three times, crashed the iPad app every time. Finally was able to play with a different friend and have it not crash yesterday.

I got 700 gold and thinking of buying more wings from Karazan, but the cards don't seem that hot... so maybe saving up for a big expansion is a better investment.

Dirty Rat is the MVP. It sucks that it costs 400 dust to craft it, but it's worth it.
