Title: Why does being 24 royally suck

Having a bad night, Bore.  Let me rant, you can get your digs in, and we'll call it a night I suppose.

- All my friends have moved away from Nashville
- I'm not doing anything creative or important to me anymore.  My job is great, I love it and its a wonderful industry to be in, but my passion is gone.  I used to write every single day, I used to write music and lyrics all the time and the shit is gone now.  I've tried starting bands down here but I haven't met anyone in Nashville who just wants to dick around -- everyone wants to make it big or not at all.
- Loans are severely crippling me, and I don't want to ask my parents for help.
- I don't feel attractive at all.  I'm to 172 lbs but I feel 272.  Everytime I'm around women now, that's the thought I put in my mind and my confidence is completely shot.  I wasn't like this throughout college.  I just don't feel cool anymore.

My nights now consist of me coming home and trying to find something to occupy my time so I don't have to think about my life.  I'll get lucky some nights where a coworker invites me out for a drink.

The last sex I had was New Years, but a very drunkenly affair with one of my best friend's sister (my best friend from home).  It was sad and sloppy, considering.

I'm just in a shitty spot ya'll.  I'm trying to improve my outlook though...I play basketball every other day (post moves!!!), I'm reading more, and I've been trying to talk to girls at bars more often, but I'm still in a regurgitative state of the same night, every single night, where I go to bed unhappy.

I wasn't hit my a car though, so at this point I don't know why I'm bitching.  There are people like Raban who have had a much tougher last few days and here I am bitching about...being a little bitch.

Sorry all, just wanted to type it all out.  I at least know that you all will laugh it off and tell me to suck it up.  I can count on you guys at least for that...to let me know I'm not some special snowflake whose situations is unique.  It helps.

I dunno man- I could sit here and be all Alpha-man tellin you the obvious- but all I can really say is that youre in a better position than a lot of people to experience days/months/years better than the current sometime down the road.

I think the problem is that you lack motivation or inspiration to be doing something at this point of your life and you're looking at all the negatives and going blah blah blah "my achey breaky Nashville heart" when really your issue is much deeper.

I could be wrong but I feel comfortable saying this since I was definitely at that point before.

I think for most dudes, their mid 20s suck: you're done with school (unless you're going to graduate school) but you're not established in your career yet.  Girls that age will likely be seeing guys in their late 20s or early 30s and you're not in as many situations to be hitting up college girls either.  So you're kind of at the worst point there.

Things were pretty bad for me when I was 24.  I had to move several hours away from people I knew to a job I fucking hated.  This was 2009 so other job opportunities were few and far between.  I had shitloads of student loan debt that I was trying to pay, which didn't leave me with much money, maybe a couple hundred a month.  I also found it much more difficult to get laid to the point where it was almost impossible to get a girl to acknowledge I existed.  So I generally just gave up and wasted my time on the internet.

What got me out of it was that I threw myself into the job that I hated.  I took on shitty projects, gritting my teeth the whole time, grinding through it.  I really tried to make myself a subject matter expert at my job and made a name for myself early on.  In the end, my efforts to take on shit nobody wanted to do got me fast tracked to a management position when I was 26 when the average age for the position in my company was late 30s.  Before I turned 25, I was able to get a better job at a location closer to friends and I started fucking a lot of townie girls.  So I guess the only advice I have for you is to take stock of what you think is important and then start pursuing it.  Kind of living half in, half out isn't going to be enough.  So maybe get really serious about playing in a band or get really serious about your job.  Try to have some kind of passion for something and go all out in it.  It should start hopefully paying off in a couple of years.

I don't know your height but 172 can't be that bad, exercise a little. You're still young enough that you probably don't have to try really hard to get some decent body changes as long as you do it consistently. I packed on a few between 22-24 as well, your metabolism slowed down a bit, just compensate for that.

Get out more, too. Find a social hobby. You're gonna be alright bro, quarter life crises happen.

You're catching me in a fatherly state, maybe because I'm becoming an old man today. So be prepared, this will be long.

And like they say in AA, take what you want, leave the rest.

Dude, you're 24. I know everything seems like its set in stone, or starting to, but its not.

Because my parents are very traditional, they instilled values in me that by 25, you should be well set in your career, thinking about buying a house, getting married, etc.

If I ever have kids, the biggest lesson I'll give them is don't take anything serious until you're 25.

You should be enjoying this part of your life because all of this worrying will come later.

So, what do you do? Stay active, join social groups (meetup.com is great), put yourself out of your comfort zone as much as you can.

You'll discover new interests, get new circles of friends, meet girls and you'll be a lot more confident.

And don't set yourself up with artificial limits, like, "I can't move away because of my debt." I can't comment on your loans, but there's ways to remedy that.

Either way, I've seen so many people in this spot, where you friends move on and you find it hard to fit in to a new group.

Thats the way out of this rut if I ever knew one.

Sounds like you're being harder on yourself than your life is. Figure out where you can wrestle some control back and make a difference with it.

It never helps to collect these tangentially related pressures (finances, relationships, personal interests) and drop them all on your head at once. Set some goals for yourself that you know are achievable in the mid- or short-term and don't lose your focus on them. In my experience I've always found it easier to work on myself before I tackle external problems, so find the root of your lack of confidence and attack it.

You seem to be a smart, talented, and attractive young man, don't take it personally when your life falls into a nadir. Believe that you have the strength to endure it, and you will.

i'm 27 (28 in 4 month),jobless,haven't seen my friend since forever as we have fallen out of contact and have no sort of girlfriend whatsoever... i also have a somewhat assholish brother's that's like "you should get out more! hur dur" everytime we speak! the only thing i've achieved in recent years was a major in computer science,i guess it makes for a fancy napkin? by the standards set by this thread what does that make me?

that said i don't mind too much (except the job part,italy is pretty infamous for shitty employement rate and i'm getting old) because

1) it can get worse
2) it's not really bad as long as you don't get bored by your enviroment and how you spend your time,if you are bored try different things,you are on the fucking internet the biggest source of enterntainement ever!
3) these sort of thread don't serve much other than have "ah-ah! loser!" like reply... actualy the reply here are too nice so i guess i need to step up to it even though i hate those sort of asshole

Since you've lived in Italy for so long, do you get bored of the environments? Italy is known here as being this exotic place where there's so much to see and do. Or is that basically just Rome?

i live in the south part of italy and the place where i live is boring as fuck,the only good thing about it is that there are some decent beaches
