Title: NHL 2017-2018: Going the Distance
Post by: Tasty on September 18, 2017, 04:22:53 PM
Preseason starts today!

We got six years of Pasta baybee! :delicious :rejoice

Let's see what our old friend Claude Julien can do with the washed up Habs-beens. :hitler

Feeling oddly optimistic this year for the first time since... 2013? Change of leadership got us into the playoffs when our four best defensemen were out. Combined with last years' rookies growing into themselves, healthy veterans, and some common fucking sense not to over-use Rask for 80% of games like they did last year, we might be able to go the distance. :jawalrus

TBH I just want us to make it to round two. :brazilcry

Krug out for three weeks because of that puck, goddamnit. :goty

Tuukka looking good out there Thursday though. .967 SV :whew

A lot (https://www.stanleycupofchowder.com/2017/9/22/16348538/nhl-faceoff-penalties-slashing-penalties-bruins-flyers-too-many-penalties-please-make-it-stop) of people (http://www.weei.com/blogs/ty-anderson/bruins-2-flyers-1-these-changes-are-going-ruin-nhl) aren't happy about the stricter face-off and slashing calls.

15-18 penalties in a game? :dunno Hopefully it's just a preseason thing, games are gonna be really awkward and jerky otherwise.

Now that the games actually count.....

FUCK YA!  7-2 BITCHES! :punch

MATTHEWS THA GOD, 3 POINT GAME :punch

GRIZZLED VETERAN MARLEAU WITH 2 GOALS :punch

Not making any assumptions about how they end up doing this year, but woe to any team not ready for the sheer offensive onslaught this Leafs team looks like it can bring.

Lol those last three minutes were cray. 3-1 Bruins, then open goal for us, then a power play which gave them two goals to make it 4-3 right at the end.

Gotta be honest, I was sweatin' in that last half-minute. :whew

Title: Re: NHL 2017-2018: Going the Distance

We're 4-1 for the last five. Key guys finally coming back from injuries, Khudobin proving to be a great goalie to take the pressure off Rask, Rask finding his groove after a shaky start back... maybe the thread title wasn't so crazy after all. :jawalrus
Title: Re: NHL 2017-2018: Going the Distance

It's time to start paying attention to what Bruins are doing (http://www.weei.com/articles/column/anderson-its-time-start-paying-attention-what-bruins-are-doing)

11-3-1 for the last 15. :rejoice This bounce-back brehs. :whew And we still haven't played a game at full health yet this season!

The rookies are finally coming into their own, veterans are acting like it, and Khudobin's been able to take a lot of pressure of Rask (his win last night was his first since Rask's return, while Rask hasn't lost a game since his return.)

Gonna be hard to keep momentum going until game 82 but goddamn we're looking solid after an absolutely crushing season opening.

Hope :rejoice

Veteran Marchand is out after a (frankly, ridiculous) 5-game suspension.

Oh man, we're in trouble, right?

17-game point streak is now 18. Not even overtime tonight. Regulation win.

Senators, please blow my cock.

Longest B's point streak since '69. And a 69 is what Sens fans should be offering us now.

We comin' for that cup! :bolo

We stumbled a bit with the Ducks but Tuukks pulled it out for us Thursday. If he's in the net and McAvoy's back this'll be easy-peasy. Otherwise it might be a fair fight. ;)

Leafs are definitely in the top strata in terms of racking up points, but Tuukka's also the best goalie in the league and the B's defense has been sterling since the new year started. Will be interesting to see the clash of strengths - but we're not exactly slackers when it comes to scoring either. ;)

Probably gonna be an insufferable cunt here during intermissions. :D

Between my dad being next to me, the seats being worth every penny of the $500 I paid for them, getting drunk off beers I can actually afford for once, and the game just being exciting as hell, this has probably been the best sporting event I've ever been to. Good game!!

While I love seeing them beaten down, Montreal is absolute trash this season so this doesn't really mean anything lol.

While we're on the topic of "sans <player>", we literally just shutout the top Atlantic team without:

- Chara (captain!)
- McAvoy (wunderkind)
- DeBrusk

So... yeah. :whatsthedeal

WELL ACHSUALLY

I feel like maybe the NHL went a little too far in allowing LV to pick some prime players. But who cares, it's a good story, good for the sport, and they are awesome to watch. And I'm a Canucks fan - I have no idea what good hockey looks like.

Melinda Karlsson has filed an order of protection against the longtime girlfriend of Senators forward Mike Hoffman — alleging a campaign of harassment that plagued the Karlssons after the death of their son and through much of the last NHL season, this newspaper has learned.

Quote
“Monika Caryk has uttered numerous statements wishing my unborn child dead,” says Melinda Karlsson’s sworn statement to the court.

Erik Karlsson, too, was allegedly targeted.

“She also uttered that she wished I was dead and that someone should ‘take out’ my husband’s legs to ‘end his career.’

“Monika Caryk has posted over 1,000 negative and derogatory statements about me as a professional.”

I was cautiously optimistic as Tavares, who is from the same suburb as I am, is marrying an Ontario girl.

The 2013 loss is not relevant. The only players left from the 2013 loss are Kadri and Gardiner, and none of the management group is left--thank god.

The worst signings yesterday/today:
Leo Komarov with the Islanders for 4 years at $3M AAV. He's 31, going on 41. He had 19 points, plays terrible D, and has some of the worst analytics in all of hockey. Somehow, he averaged about as much ice-time as Marner and Nylander. Dubas' second best move yesterday was not re-signing Komarov, so that Babcock doesn't get a chance to overplay him. Note: A coach if overplaying him if he isn't a healthy scratch.

James Neal for 5 years, $5.75M AAV with Calgary. He turns 31 before the season and is coming off of back-to-back 40-point seasons. Wingers like this never age well. Thought teams might have learned after the Lucic, Eriksson, and Ladd contracts.

Dishonorable mentions: Bozak and Roussel. The JVR and Stastny won't end well.
