How bad is it?
Played for 5 minutes, still as clunky and obtuse as ever
Soul Sacrifice 2 please
What Andy-kun sees in it, I'll never know.
Monster Hunter 2 G
Are you seriously unable to party up in this shit? I have to read out a 15 character alphabet-only case sensitive password to my party every time?
uh what? i joined a party just fine
wait I think the job game thing was glitching so I created my own lobby and then people joined
It seemed pretty fun. Don't understand why people think MH is trash.

Don't you like Dynasty Warriors tho? Talk about clunky and obtuse lol.
I'm ok with the gameplay. I like it. I just don't know why the multiplayer interface feels like Battle.net circa 1998.We Nintendrones (and PSP stans) had to make do with much worse. Good to hear that the Multiplayer interface has at least evolved past the eighties. Progress is being made.
the Switch one is just a map pack for a prior 3DS game that was already stale in itself. If it was even that. It was a lazily up-rezzed port of an already existing game. And yes, not even a good one. 4U was great, X was OK, XX... Let's just say W looks worlds better. Heh.

So just like Ultra SF2 and Resident Evil Revelations? :doge
Combined with that and the fact that each monster has various hit spots (tail, torso, legs, arms, head) and a stamina system that depletes every time use an attack, perhaps maybe MH is a game where you're supposed to be precise as all possible using the least manner of resistance to study an opponents weak point without whiffing a large attack and getting owned for it? Perhaps this is not DMC/NG?
:ohhh
Are you a fellow Monster Hunter elitist Cindi? *Starts sharpening his longsword* If you know what I mean. ;)
Doubleposting, so why not dig out this ancient but nonetheless still amusing 4chan meme.

Here's some facts::expert
1. As an MonHun expert I know what I'm talking about.
2. I played 100 hours of MonHun 2 on my iphone using touch controls. Essentially, I have mastered Monster Hunter and its gameplay/controls because I'm not a shit gamer.
3. Haters of MonHun are scrubs.
4. These scrubs should stick to Souls games or w/e.
I have no idea why people think MH is clunky. And more often than not it means they've played it for maybe ten minutes.
I do not give a shit and regret nothingWords to live by. 8)

Note: Since the beta is not on PC (way to give Steam-ers confidence on the port not having a rootkit, Capcuck), I don't know if they have MASSIVELY improved it for western folks or not (since folks here seem to think that's the case) but I gave the series 2-3 tries on PSP (even rebuying the goddamn thing after selling it) and the two reasons above turned me off the series massively.
I'll stick with PSO/PSU/PSP.
You can now focus the camera on the monster with a button press. Which is all you need practically.
I think you could do that in 3U, too.
Yer not being wrong, or being a cunt, noob. It's true that the tracking part was completely minuscule, especially the further you got in the game.
And I still enjoyed that the option existed. Can't help it. I was never a fan of grinding a certain quest to get a rare drop. Well, for the most part. Sometimes it's inevitable, for gameplay or fashion reasons. However, I'm more of a smell the flowers by the wayside kinda guy. Most of the time I'd run quests for a while, then look what I'd be able to craft, not the other way around. The loot stuff is definitely nice, but only secondary for me.
Oh well. We will see how the demo relates to the game. Personally, I hope the glowbugs are just a low rank/easy mode thing.
...well, not like it'll affect me. I think I'm unconsciously concern-trolling.
Monster Hunter X ended with an idol dance number. Series was that close going full low-tier otaku junk like Fire Emblem and MegaTen.

playing diablo single player is a cry for help
Monster Hunter is multiplayer first since when? I have never played MH multiplayer in all of my hundreds of hours with the series. Entire entries such as 3 Ultimate for 3ds didn't have multiplayer. Since when is MH about multi? It's a big element for a certain portion of the fanbase but the focus? You have been sorely mistaken and led astray. That's like saying Diablo's focus is multiplayer. It's a nice bonus, but at the end of the day it's all about PHAT LOOT.
playing diablo single player is a cry for help
Most my diablo game type playing is SP ;_;
But yeah, playing D3 with the bore at launch was the most fun I’ve had in one.
They’re competent SP loot games, but just more fun in MP.
That’s what I’m getting from MH too. If it was more like DMC/Souls short intense boss fights it’d be better SP (Souls bosses are better SP for sure, MP is easy mode). But with the long grueling hunts MP just adds more fun chaos from the beta.
The reviews kinda sound like "Wow this is just like Monster Hunter, except without all the bad stuff that Monster Hunter fans have forced themselves to endure." :lol

I figured the reviews would be similar to Dynasty Warriors reviews, but people seem much more positive. [shrug]
Crazy what happens when you put it on a big, powerful console with a robust online system.
Will definitely be interesting to see how Japan responds to it.

Anecdotal but every person I know who owns a PS4 is buying it and only 1 has ever played before.

You can put monsters to sleep and then capture them in a net if it’s like older MH games.
So you jerk them off first?
Go from Monsyerhunter to Monsterbator?
they were also feeding the dolphin lsd to try teach it to speak human.
Did you bros make a squad yet? Once you do that, you can all join the same online session and hop into hunts with each other. You can even join ones in progress and still be eligible for rewards, assuming 10 minutes haven't passed since the quest started.
Holy shit I need this game. People actually playing MH I can't miss this shit. But I lack the money now. :fbm
Words cannot express how happy this thread makes me :tocry

Note to self: don't use the gun lance even if you think it's cool.I tried to main GL during the demo and it seems too much like a one trick pony. I'm rolling with regular lance now and it's a lot more versatile.

What's the point of all these research points you get from the bounties? I have so many but no idea how to use them on anything?
It’s been exactly a year since Capcom scored a No1 on the All Formats Entertainment Software Chart (Resident Evil 7: Biohazard) and the publisher does it again, with the first simultaneous worldwide release for a Monster Hunter title – ‘Monster Hunter: World’ for PS4/Xbox One debuts at No1 with far higher week 1 sales in the UK than any other Monster Hunter release. The series dates back to 2005’s ‘Monster Hunter’ for PS2 and the title that charted highest until now was 2016’s 3DS ‘Monster Hunter Generations’ which debuted at No3 in week 28, 2016.
Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) today announced that Monster Hunter: World for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One*1 has shipped 5 million units worldwide (including digital download sales). A PC version is to be released at a later date.
*1: Xbox One version is available in North America and Europe only

Fuck time limits, and fuck this game. I'm by myself, motherfuckers, there shouldn't be a time limit. Fucking thing was almost dead. "Hey, can't kill you right now, my fucking phone timer went off." Nearly an hour of my life I'll never get back because every Japanese developer has to be a rulesperg of some sort. Too bad they can't be that spergy about good controls.
Nintendo systems were clearly holding the franchise back :doge

Lulz. There would be no skill involved if you could just wail on mons indefinitely until they croaked. The limit encourages skillful play.
In short, git gud. :ufupspoiler (click to show/hide)Yes I complained about the same thing with Sonic. 🙄[close]
You're doing 1/4 the damage of a group, so it's always going to take longer
I think from what I heard the the monster scales from SP to multiplayer, but does not scale from 2p-4P.
Dude, I can fuck up elder dragons solo in 50 mins in older (harder) games, the time limits are super generous in world cause the monsters are so easy. Just dont go out bow hunting and do like 3 hits per minute or something :lol
Like what I'm saying is it feels like once you kinda know their routes, you don't have to run around like a headless chicken looking for tracks, you just head straight to where they're gonna be on investigations and missions and stuff. Is that correct?
Do you still craft weapons and armor with shit you find? Bebpo says stuff you find is just for ammo but in old MH you have to search for ingredients to craft your gear.
Man. I suck at this game, but I think it's getting it's claws into me.We were all bad once till we learned how to beat a Kut Ku, so many things used similar ai loops so you could approach them the same haha. Tigrex will make you sit up at first (if in game) and MHFU era Plesioth was a hitbox fuck but otherwise once you can do a Kut Ku you quickly parlay those skills to other monsters.
Was thinking yeah kinda easy and then I just did the TOBI-KADACHI and that motherfucker was intense. First enemy I fainted on. First monster that's fast and has status effects (lightning). Fighting in the small arena where he starts and he's all climbing trees and jump gliding tail swinging at you...damn good shit. Looking forward to the high end crazy fights like this. Feels like a glimpse at what's to come.
Even in MH Freedom Unite Plesioth was a piece of fuck.
The Trex was my first game over. I actually had him weak, but without HP buffs (after fainting once) it gets a little tricky.

And I pointed out he was STILL jank as fuck in 3U because the hitboxes were generally much better in gen 3 than gen 2. But Plessy was still a piece of fuck.
Explain MH to me like I'm 5 brehs. Don't need the nitty-gritty, just the basic concept and mechanics.
Playing solo will take 40 mins with the tougher stuff till you get a gaggle of cats to distract the enemies though, so that's still fine.

None of those replies are helpful.
Cindi halp pls.
In old MH you do not follow tracks like this. You find it yourself and have to actually "hunt" it (like tagging it so you can follow it across the map if it leaves trying to save its life, things like that). The core premise is doing missions (as you saw easy, normal, hard;etc) missions and looting the monsters and getting local items. Then you craft the shit to get new armor and weapons to survive against harder monsters. The appeal is free form and arcade like precision: you can tackle hunting your monster any damn way you see fit. Whether it's not even killing it and just capturing it in a net. Or maybe you wanna trick it by throwing out food infused with sleep herbs that makes the mark fall asleep after eating it. Allowing you to fuck it up? Or maybe you like being tactical and enjoy planting bombs and traps for it to fall in. There's lots of options and the appeal is beating the monster YOUR way and then making yourself a cool armor out of it. Sometimes, you might want to take a monster out with your buddies. It's fun.
Pretty sure there is a direct correlation between number of cats in a game and sales. Maybe now they'll greenlight Dragon's Dogma 2 but there will only be cat pawns. And cat mounts. And all the NPCs will be cats.Playing solo will take 40 mins with the tougher stuff till you get a gaggle of cats to distract the enemies though, so that's still fine.

Been fucking with a lot of the weapons, big ass hammer is really easy to use. The katana or long sword is great too but I love the hammer's charge attack too much.
Yeah, just dont train them to throw bombs, then they will annoy you :lolPlaying solo will take 40 mins with the tougher stuff till you get a gaggle of cats to distract the enemies though, so that's still fine.

I will have to get it next month :tocryI'm right there with you, bruh. The hype hasn't let up and makes it more unbearable. I need that cat character in my life. :rkelly
Anjanath is wrecking me. I get that it's weak to water so I've got the Aqua Messer sword equipped and I'm trying not to just blindly hack away at it... but still. Daaamn.
I get that it’s weak to water but I can’t do anything elemental with my hammer. Kinda wish you could get water shots for your slinger.

Watermoss into his face when in flame mode.
I've been trying to use the environment to get on top of it, but no luck. I'll keep at it.
Tried to upgrade my Aqua Messer to level II but looks like a mineral for it isn't obtainable yet.
Played the original MH on PS2 but haven't touched the series since then. Picked this up partly from the nostalgia, partly from the hype and partly because PSN had that 10 percent off code thing so I could get the digital deluxe for about the price of the vanillla version. Was going to go stabby stabby with dual blades but changed at the last second to insect glaive on a whim. REALLY glad I did since the aerial stuff with the glaive is so damn fun. There's something very satisfying about doing a reverse juggle (combos keep ME in the air over the mark) then landing on the monsters back to get the Mount state and continuing the onslaught. Also, sending my bug in and having it extract buffs is boss
Did you play on the ps2 EU servers for MH? If you did I probably know you.
Tried anjanath fo the first time, hes a nimble fucker for a big cunt. Only problem is, his flamethrower was OHKO'ing me and i got sniped 3 times. rip

Never bought the HD/ethernet thing for my og PS2 so I never experienced the multiplayer aspect. Thought about getting it for PSP when it blew up to be a phenomenon but tales about having to cramp your hand up in the 'claw' to play put a damper on that. My loss of course but it's nice to be hunting again
That thing where a monster can just leave the area after you've been chasing it across the map beating on it for 20 minutes? Yeah, fuck everyone who had anything to do with this time-wasting piece of shit.
I played a bit of MH online on the PS2. I got one of those online modems for like $10 on clearance at Gamestop. I think I actually bought it with Monster Hunter.
wtf
I didn't know that was a thing that can happen. And that's with a quest monster? Not like just some monster you ran across in expedition mode? Seems kinda bullshit for a quest monster to do that.

Expedition mode. They tell you there's no time limits in expedition mode, but if the monsters can leave that's pretty much a time limit.
Tri and 3 Ultimate on Wii U had online multiplayer and Pro Controller support just fyi.
However, I get that some people dig the non-mission, non-timer gameplay of expeditions to just go around doing what they want. I'm not a big survival game fan, so I prefer just fight mission challenges.
Was reading a thread on Era about whether XX should be localized. For me, as someone whose tried to get into MH every 5 years or so but never made it far, I can't go back to a MH without Scoutflies. Like the convenience of auto-tracking and ease of gathering/crafting is way too efficient. While I'd like to play XX for the 90+ monsters in it, I don't think I'd make it more than an hour without scoutflies. Hoping instead they just keep adding expansions/DLC to MHW to get the monster count up so I can enjoy most of those 90 monsters with MHW gameplay.
It's not a zone vs open world thing. That's not a big issue either way. The scoutflies are just integrated everywhere in MHW and it's the biggest QoL bit in the game. It basically changes how everything flows in MH. At first I was worried it'd be a dumbed down beginners thing, but it's just a much more enjoyable way to do everything that isn't the fighting.
Nope.
Bow seems like the go to ranged weapon. I mean ranged seems easier since you can just stay away and shoot, but I guess it takes longer since you’re doing less damage than melee.I'm getting better times on bow than any other weapon I've done so far. :yeshrugNope.
Yeah, no idea then.
Just got this a couple of days ago and now I'm legit mad I won't get the Horizon Palico equipment. It just ended and I'm only rank 5 :mafYeah, I'm kinda pissed about that too. dufuq, Capcom.
Got to Rotten Vale and HR 8 finally. Is there a Bore Squad on PS4? Would like to exchange Guild Cards so I can send your minions on Safari :D
Rathalos was pretty easy fight with my hammer. The hardest part was just when he's in the air I couldn't hit him so I'd just run around a lot.
Also, while I dig MH and don't mind grinding monsters because they are fun to fight, what I don't dig is having to grind mining ores or small monsters for parts for gear/weapon upgrades. That shit is tedious time waster stuff of RNG and waiting for respawns. Would like it better if every part was just from beating monsters.
All right, I've given this game many a chance, tried having an open mind and just gritting my teeth after getting mad over it before, but I think I'm done. I was doing the mission where I have to spot a Girros and then kill a Radobaan, which is counted as an expedition mission, and the motherfucking Radobaan left right as I was about to kill him. This is a story mission, not a free roam. I have to pass it to advance. Either time the fucking hunt at 50 min like a normal mission or don't allow it to leave. I broke every part that bastard had that could be broken, he's barely moving, and right as I'm about to put the boots to him he just disappears because it hit that arbitrary time. I mean, he "left." Then, as if the game is rubbing it in my face, a fully healthy one pops up and appears right where he was lying. There's no defending that, it's just pure time-wasting trash game design.
Kirins suck :o
HR 14 right now, can't believe how many hours I've played this game. Just started getting comfortable farmingThey're only going to throw about 5 more monsters at you. :dogeand just beat aspoiler (click to show/hide)Nergigante[close]. Yeah, it doesn’t run great on base xbone.
On the 1X, there is a performance mode which gets you above 30fps, but eve on that it’s not a full 60fps.
HR 10 now. Diablos fight was epic. Got carted twice but managed to down it with a minute and twenty seconds left on the timer :D Had a ton of help from Tailraiders on it. The Bug Trappers pitched in once with a net trap, had a Protector Escort with me for a long while and my Palico rode in on the final clash astride a Kestadon :lol Definately worth grinding those factions up
Wait, what there are factions you can level up to get cats riding dinos and throwing traps down for you? How do I do this?
This may be a silly question, but if you put items in your item box, will it show as having the item when crafting gear? Or do you have to have them on hand in your pouch? Sorry, newbie here.. Trying to wrap my head around it all..... And another question... when gather flora, even when I have item slots open in my pouch, why does it still say a certain item is full when I try to gather it?
Ah ok, good to know. I'm just use to Horizon, where it just starts a new slot if the item gets full in one. Yes. And items themselves have max capacity, like you can't have more than 10 blue mushrooms in the pouch (but more in the box).
Goddamn it. I almost had Diablos down and then some noob got Pwned 3x in a row.

Goddamn it. I almost had Diablos down and then some noob got Pwned 3x in a row.
Yeah, I've had that happen and it's why I do monsters solo the first time, then MP when grinding quick.
Diablos was the hardest fight in LR for me, but that was partly because I learned afterwards I was incredibly undergeared. If you gear up to the stuff right before it and use armor spheres to boost another 30-40 DEF, you can take hits like nothing from Diablos.
Also his hardest attack if you're meleeing around him is his charge imo since he goes from neutral to EVERYTHING IS A HITBOX and if you're right at his legs you'll get run over. Basically just gotta mess around a bit to figure out safe zone/windows. His underground attack is easy to dodge and if you have sonic bombs you can dizzy him and get free hits in. You can also get free hits in when he's digging underground and you're hitting his tail on the way down.
It's probably my favorite fight in LR. Closer to a Devil May Cry boss with slower more visible clues and hard hitting moves. A lot of the other monsters just seem like a bunch of non-stop move spam.
Goddamn it. I almost had Diablos down and then some noob got Pwned 3x in a row.
Man everyone is saying that Diablos is challenging but he seems the same like in MHFU :thinking
Seems it's time to try him out.

I think most people saying that, including myself, never fought him before as this is their first MH.
Probably not hard to MH vets.
Eh, frenzy Diablos can be as annoying as anything in MH, I can understand the noob complaints.
So the melding npc is extremely disappointing. First of all, the pages of potions and traps and ammo are useless. That stuff is easy to come by. As to the Monster parts: there’s only Plates (okay I guess) and Gems (do these exist outside melding?). So basically, you’re still stuck grinding for the annoying shit like Fangs and Sacs and Tails.
Not to mention that anything worthwhile takes special items only that are rewards from limited bounties (yay, more grinding!). I might as well just say fuck it and go grind investigations with silver and gold rewards instead.
Very much a missed opportunity to cut down on the bullshit: every item should be meldable once obtained and valued with MP in such a way that prevents turning in lots of junk for the good shit (i.e. I should be able to turn 4 Anjanath Pelt in for 1 Anjanath Fang.
Or just don’t have this npc and have the item drop process be less obtuse. Having monsters drop items mid fight that need to be picked up and don’t automatically go in your inventory is terrible. Tails I can understand because it’s very noticeable and they have to be carved. If I break an Anjanath’s head that should guarantee X Fangs by the end of the quest.
The quest has you fight against a large Barroth, but don't go against it alone—this Barroth is impossible to beat due to its massive size and hitboxes.
You get two SFV Tickets each time you beat the Barroth, and you need seven tickets to unlock the Ryu costume.
You can cart 9 times, so you should be able to defeat the Barroth solo, but the quest is designed for two players.
If you think this will play like a normal Barroth hunt, think again. This monster's massive size drastically changes its hitboxes and range, requiring you to change your strategy. We recommend using the Heavybowgun and teaming up with another Heavybowgun user - both sets come with poison, sleep, and paralysis knives and ammo and traps.
Late to this post but iirc the 2 highlighted were some of the rarest parts to get in the older games (Rathian Plates....:beli) so being able to get them using this melder is very interesting tbh.

Yeah I can see that, but it requires items that are super grindy to get in the first place. It would be nice if you could convert rare items you don’t need to rare items you do.
Not that XX is bad, but going back on some of the QoL improvements could definitely turn off people who started with World.

Do you even know what those are, besides fireflies? :thinking
Paintball tracking was fine. You can buy whestones for 80z. The crafting system was grade-A and allowed you to bang out dozens of items in seconds. I never remember equipping specific gear to gather. And gathering is 50% of the term "hunter-gatherer" so I saw it as fairly appropriate (and now I'm perturbed learning that World's done away with it completely.)
Bepbo try a different weapon maybe? If you're not really engaged with the core mechanics of actually felling a beast then just about everything is going to seem a grind. I love hunting so if I have to concentrate on a particular mon for something it's not that big a deal (unless the piece I need doesn't drop after half a dozen tries :lol) Go dual blades for a change of pace or even better try the horn out since you coop a lot

And gathering is 50% of the term "hunter-gatherer" so I saw it as fairly appropriate (and now I'm perturbed learning that World's done away with it completely.)
Started playing MH4U to scratch the itch and honestly it’s very enjoyable aside from being on the 3DS. The Paintball mechanic is fine, gathering is fine, zones are fine. The controls just suck (a lot), but this is why I want XX on the Switch already.
I’d say playing World has made me more patient with things in 4U that might have turned me off initially.
I still dream of a remade 3U and 4U in the World engine, just for the controls.
Yeah I could see how you could cheese zoning.
One other thing I forget to mention: the Charge Blade is god damned incredible and I’m definitely using it when I go back to World for Deviljho

Almost exactly word-for-word of what I've been telling Bebpo. :P
Do you mean the controls suck because lol handheld or some other reason?

This is certainly a nitpick, but I feel it's legitimate. I'm coming to realize that the armor/gear customization in this game sucks.... that may be a bit harsh, but it's certainly poor. It suffers from what 99% of the games out there that offer character customization, when it comes to armor/gear categories. All you get is head, torso, waist and leg armor. With a game with half the purpose of playing it is to craft cool new gear from monsters slain, why... oh why is there not an extra tier of actual clothing that can be crafted from said monsters to wear in conjunction with your armor??!? Fucking Dragon’s Dogma, a game released 6 years ago, did this (looking at you, Capcom), why is this not in every game (with character customization) moving forward?? They could at least patch in some dye options or something… But if this isn’t ramped up to at least DD level once the follow up is released, I may just pass then.
You can fucking make the prettiest/ugliest face, with color of skin not humanly possible, with literal endless variety, but yet, there simply needs to be at least….spoiler (click to show/hide)Three times the amount of fashionable tier options in this game!

Go to your item box in your room, go down to the bottom and click on "change appearance," next click on "change armor pigment" in the sub menu. :itagakiOh hell yeah. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll take that over nothing.
It's not exactly what you are looking for, and it is somehow even less robust than what you get with the friggin pig's outfits, but it at least allows you to coordinate the base colors if that is something that bothers you enough(I tend to not care all that much)
Who plays the Switch MonHun? Not interested in World.

Which is the least time consuming game? MH is time consuming or can be.
Wait Bebps you're on MHGU/XX too? :)

Brachydios needs to show up more often.
Gigginox too.
And honestly Lagiacrus is too good a design to waste on being water-only. Throw Ivory Lagi in there or something for representation.
