I still think Dunkey is hilarious (and actually enjoyed the video) but I'm loving Octopath Traveler.
However I have always loved turn based rpgs. Part of getting older and self-awareness is realizing that not everything is for you, and it's ok to have specific tastes and just enjoy what you enjoy. Like, I know for a fact that I hate games with long dumb cutscenes that interrupt the action (cut scenes in turn based games are fine, probably because "the action" is different and it doesn't bother me to have that interrupted by long narratives) so I will never, ever bother playing another Kojima game. Why would I do that to myself? I hate shit like that. There's literally no reason for me to even watch a Death Stranding trailer, and I haven't. I just don't care.
I imagine random encounters were originally borne from a technical constraint that caught on because tradition and didn't change for way too long, and will only be adhered to in future by misguided nostalgia fests.

Also; Dragon Quest IX (and later instalments), Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Xenoblade. I can't think of a single jrpg where i wouldn't prefer if i could see enemies on map. Fuck random encounters.

I liked Paper Mario's system. It wasn't just braindead spreadsheets - you could do action-RPG-like things for perks and boosts, which kept battles feeling dynamic.

I know this forum revels in absolute dogshit tier shitposting, but making a controller that enables anyone to play a game makes me emotional in a good way. Kids with terrible handicaps can play with their friends, getting into a severe accident won't end your hobby. Gears 5 in general has set a precedent with having accessibility options not hidden, and incredibly well implemented.
Game pass in general will be the future of gaming distribution. It's going to a service that's either copied or built upon to be a killer app for Xbox as a service. Don't PlayStation Now me or say Nintendo gives away games too. Game Pass has been one of the best gaming services this entire gen.

I think westerners would be more open to grinding if it was done like in wow or diablo, realtime. Also the DQ fights are super easy so there is little challenge to the grinding (at least from the few hours i played). So it really breaks the flow even if you put tje combat on superhyperspeed (the fact there is super speed shows how silly combat is)

The secret levels were great, but there is just so much bullshit in this game that has nothing to do with mastering the mechanics IMO.this is valid and I think it's a lot easier to forgive the game if you're ten and you've got like infinite free time to sink into it... This was the second game I got for GameCube after Wind Waker and it's still etched into my memory as one of my fondest childhood experiences

They've already sunk so much into R&D, pre-allocated money to marketing, etc, they're counting on sales in that quarter on their books in order to even possibly be able to make their projections, even accounting for These Troubled Times™
So, basically it's just that they're huge multi-national corporations and are too far along in the process to consider holding off a year.
The REAL reason is that they could have fucking done so years ago because they probably had a good idea this was the year for a new console launch and instead didn't bother to line up any real AAA first party launch titles. Sony through shitty timing, MS through incompetence and not knowing what gamers want (ffs they think Halo Infinite is a AAA launch title brehs)
Honestly, Halo SHOULD in theory be a bigger deal than any of the crap that Xbone launched with. It's just that Halo as a franchise has eroded in prestige in the past 7ish years.

You can really tell Dunk's not a fan of rpgs in this one even though it's action based and not turn based. Resource management, item management, status effects, risk/reward these are all rpg fundamentals and true whether it's turn based or action based like Demon's Souls. Don't know what it was like during the pre-crash/crash days but NES games were usually $45 to $50... Master System and Genesis RPGs (Phantasy Star especially) were a bit more money due to ROM sizes. I remember PSIV being sold for $110 back in the day! SNES games tended to be a bit higher on average than Genesis games (I believe due to the fact a lot of SNES games had add on DSPs and other chips), $60 to $70, with more for RPGs (FF6 I remember buying for $80). Some of the smaller ROM size NES/SNES games were cheaper, Mystic Quest I remember retailing for $40.
The PS1 era was the one that really standardized the $50 video game, with some exceptions (the $20 Greatest Hits lineup, some other budget titles like Spec Ops on the low end, with the WD collectors editions on the high end).

I thought it was kinda amusing when he rolled off a list of various well regarded and publicized indie titles, implying he played an important role in bringing them to attention. It's not like they were obscure gems that other channels give attention to. Like, if someone has made a solid indie title are they going to be eager to release via Dunkey's company just because of his comedy channel clout or a more established publisher?

He seems to be attacking Dunkey for not having put his business plan in the video and instead putting in the video his intentions on why he intends his publishing service to be different. He also seems completely to be unaware that massive publishers also base decisions on "having played lots of games and only endorsing good ones", Ubisoft for example does not make every decision based on this (especially when licenses are involved like Avatar) but Ubisoft does employ a single executive in the role of playing prototypes and rejecting or endorsing them purely on gameplay grounds before they can continue on in development. The Division came about partly because of this executives choices on gameplay concepts that Massive submitted, if not for this executives endorsement the project that turned into The Division never would have happened and they would have been turned into a Far Cry franchise helping studio. Once he signed off on The Division, it was then that the other executives started looking at whether or not stuff like the Tom Clancy franchise could fit the concept which eventually led to paring the two and The Division as we know it came about.

Dunkey posting about any of this doesn't do anything but change who his audience is, but for people who are obsessed with the topic his not posting means they can't tell which box he fits in so they're afraid if they should be in his audience or not.
