Also RE2 surprisingly stills holds up, played it for the first time (having seen other people play it for years and knowing about it all from some nerd friend who was deep into RE) after REmake’s most recent port and it was more than fine IQ wise.
I actually think OTS is a more bold move considering the comments they made surrounding the rumors. There’s bigger potential to be had than just making another pre-rendered version of those locales, which would’ve looked considerably more awkward than 1->REmake.

I dunno about that. It had some decent ports and a few alright first party games.
But it's by far the weakest of the three that generation in terms of games. And I say that as an X-box fan that thinks a lot of the first/second party output by X-box sucked that period. The only three I'd put up is DoA (since it was a looker at the time), Ninja Gaiden(:Black), and Phantom Dust (for putting real-time card-combat on the map/being innovative).

The Switch had great new installments in the two flagship Nintendo franchises out within six-ish months of launch. That's why it has the reputation it does and has coasted on it. I mean, it *does* have better software than WiiU and weirdly enough seems to be getting more 3rd party love too, but the only games on it I feel like I have to own at this point are still Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey.

The Switch has Xenoblade 2, DQ Builders, and soon Octopath Traveler (with a new FE and SMT coming eventually)... that's already better than the super disappointing Wii RPG library (come on, anyone remember FFCC The Crystal Bearers?). For a system that was so successful, especially in Japan, you'd think there would be a shit ton of quality RPGs for it. But there were only the Operation Rainfall games, a FE, and like... Opoona.

Dust 514 was so bad. Like, it was struggling to run on the PS3 and it was "exclusive" to the fucking thing. :dogePewpewing the scarce few planets in EVE for Dust orbital strikes was such an immense letdown. Skill- and equipment-wise there was nothing to it, IIRC. Thoroughly unsatisfying "gameplay", as well. What were they thinking. It's like someone looked at planetary goop extraction and decided that was too exciting a game mechanic.
I can't wait to see how badly optimized the PC port is. And how much the "integration with EVE!" they touted is still not there. :doge :doge

I actually liked the overworld maze in LA. Made it feel far bigger than it actually was.
The rooster alleviated the traversal prolems, and even before that there were the warp hole thingies that at least gave you access to most of the map with a modicum of walking. Couple that with item/equipment based shortcuts and the maze world was okay.
However, the UI/UX in LA is a mystery to me - ferchrissake, getting to the save screen was convoluted as fuck and only mentioned in the manual and by like one character. I very much doubt that they could not have added that function to the start menu screen somehow. Or maybe as a function of the telephone houses or an equippable item. They could have used long button presses (e.g. keeping start pressed for 3 seconds).
Heck, also implement two sets of items (for traversal and combat respectively), tap the select button to switch between them. Longpress select for map. Instant 500% upgrade to ease of use. Can't take more than a few lines of code, even back in the days. They already had a polling setup for the sword charge attack, so they could have repurposed it.

I think it's the switch to pseudo realistic graphics like in RE7 and MHW that's throwing people off. It's like everybody forgot who Nero is, who Vergil is, the buttrock and over the top ridiculousness of the original games with DmC only fresh in their memory. Nero even has his standard combo in the footage, and what little there is of the gameplay shows old school DMC with some more added to it (as a sequel should do).

It's been over 2077 days since we announced our plan to develop Cyberpunk 2077. We released a CGi trailer, gave some interviews and... went dark. Normal procedure for these kinds of things - you announce a game and then shut up, roll your sleeves, and go to work. We wanted to give you The Witcher 3 and both expansions first, which is why this period of staying silent was longer than we planned. Sorry for that.
As soon as we concluded work on Blood and Wine, we were able to go full speed ahead with CP2077's pre-production. But we chose to remain silent. Why? At some point, we made a decision to resume talking about the game only when we have something to show. Something meaningful and substantial. This is because we do realise you've been (im)impatiently waiting for a very long time, and we wouldn't like anyone to feel that we're taking this for granted. On the contrary - it gives us a lot of extra motivation. The hype is real, so the sweat and tears need to be real too :).
But, to the point. Before we finish, you probably have some questions, right?
When? When we told you we would only release the game when it's ready, we meant it. We're definitely much, much closer to a release date than we were back then :), but it's still not the time to confirm anything, so patience is still required. Quality is the only thing that drives us - it's the beauty of an independent studio and your own publisher.
How big? Seriously big, but... to be honest, we have no bloody clue at this point in time. Once we put it all together, we will openly tell you what you can expect. And we promise we'll do this before we start talking about any pre-orders or ask anything of you.
Free DLC/Expansions/DRM? Expect nothing less than you got with the Witcher 3. As for DRM, CP2077 will be 100% DRM free on PC.
Microtransactions? In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?

Ehhh, it's pretty clear imo from the trailer and the leak that this is essentially Bloodborne Japan. It's an rpg with a fixed action character build and grappling hook instead of gun parry and maybe faster movement/more mobility (idk, Bloodborne was pretty fast). The rpg systems are probably the same souls/bloodborne systems with campfire and multiple weapons and stuff. Doesn't look like you can jump outside side-step and grappling hook hops, so controls will probably be souls. Combat looks pretty souls-ish.
If it wasn't an action rpg and was just listed as straight action game I'd agree on the Otogi comparisons, but pretty sure this is another Bloodborne aka action souls which I'm totally cool with because I like action souls.

Bethesda reaffirmed that while you can try to go it alone with the campaign, key parts of it involve quasi tower-defence elements, in which you cooperate with up to three other players to build a base, maintain it, fight bosses together, fend off attacks from rival teams, and pillage other team's bases for loot. In other words,it's next to impossible to finish the campaign on your own. Fallout 76 arrives this November.

During the finals, Palen spammed a well-known exploit called 'unlock tech,' that made his attacks unblockable. The exploit works because of For Honor's lock-on system, which focuses your attacks on a single target. By unlocking from your target during a swing, certain attacks can become unparryable. Players have been complaining about this exploit for a month, but recent patch notes addressing the exploit only say that Ubisoft is working to "remove this unintended behavior." That's not good enough, according to For Honor's players.

To me this was basically the Microsoft conference, just with far, far less games. It was like "THIRD PERSON CINEMATIC GAME: THE EXPERIENCE."The bar was raised too damn high from E3 2015.
Resident Evil 2 was the best thing and it's not like that's a PS4-only game. They showed too much of everything else. Death Stranding was awful. Show us a fucking GAME already. Spider-Man at least was all action which is good. PSVR is Vita-level to Sony at this point.

So I'm reading the PC Gamer write up and I guess Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is in fact not a soulsborne game at all. There are no RPG mechanics, classes, or levels, just occasional items that upgrade your equipment and gadgets. An action-adventure game not an RPG.
As someone that is partial to Soulsborne style games that is kind of disappointing....Though I guess there is still Nioh 2.
However, Sekiro is the biggest disappointment so far for me... such a wasted opportunity AND coming right after Nioh.Agreed... and the main character looks horribly bland and generic too.

Ya, Sinking City is being developed by Frogwares (the developer of all the Sherlock Holmes games) and Call of Cthulhu is developed by Cyanide (who makes Blood Bowl and Tour de France games :doge ). I think I'm most interested in Sinking City atm, but I hope they're both good.

There are many opportunities for licensing Nintendo IP to Film companies, TV companies, merchandise companies and more. Miyazaki: Yes. Within the genre, we especially focused on ninja games. You might be able to tell, but the biggest influence on the early stages of this project was the Tenchu series. We initially considered publishing this under the Tenchu series, but we gave up on that idea quickly. Fundamentally, Tenchu was created by a very different set of developers with idiosyncracies that shone in the work, and if we were to develop under that name, then we feared it would come off as an imitation. So while we received many influences from Tenchu-- including the grappling hook and Ninja Kill-- we created our own foundation for this game.
Miyazaki: Map design will be very similar to Dark Souls 1. With one exception, the three-dimensional map will be fully interconnected, allowing a high degree of freedom in game progression. The grappling hook will allow you to maneuver effectively through that environment. We think the exploration will be fun.

It's funny because I was standing there telling me co-workers about Nier as I saw some girls I had chatted up at a party the night before (about Nier, they were massive fans), and then I see someone walking by in an Emil T-shirt and I tapped them and said "Hey nice shirt!" and she turns to me and goes, "Thanks I voice 2B!", (her hair was different from the last time I saw her which is why I didn't auto recognize her) so I asked her for a selfie and gushed a whole bunch. What's great about this is how it changes the approach to combat. Instead of facing most enemies head-on like you would in Dark Souls (or cheesing the hell out of them if you're a wimp like me), Sekiro's stealth and more open environments play to all sorts of strategies. In one encounter, the shinobi killed off an enemy sniper and then leapt onto a trailing guard, turning what should have been a five versus one fight into a much more approachable three on one.
