DMC is the king of character action. I'd even go as far to say DMC1>>>>Bayonetta 1.

Better story, no QTEs, you aren't constantly interrupted by cutscenes, no gimmick stages. Bayonetta 1 has great gameplay wrapped around so much fluff. DMC1 is paced like a classic Resident Evil game as well.

Replaying DMC1 in anticipation for DMC5, the most difficult aspect of the game is the camera. Its pretty unreasonable on my behalf, but I crave a DMC1 remake with a behind the shoulder camera.

Post by: Coffee Dog on March 06, 2019, 12:48:41 PM: I played DMCs 3 and 4 and loved them, I adore Bayo 1 as well, and started DMC1 recently. It is astoundingly full formed, much less prototypical than I expected a genre defining title from 2001 to be, and it is downright admirable how little story and bullshit there is before the game just throws you in the castle and lets you murder demons.

But the camera is horrendous. I'm fine with static camera angles, I played the other games, but the amount of times the camera snapped around when fighting the lava spider (or the frequent occurrences where the lava spider just jumped in front of the screen so I couldn't see) were very frequent.

Overall it's been a great time though. I'm like halfway through now and I'll be done in time for V.

None of these other character action games have done much for me. DMC5 is the first DMC since the original I'm pretty interested in playing.

I wasn't planning on buying DMC5 at launch, but tried the demo and really liked it...so pre-ordered on PC. It was a lot of fun!

It's an amazingly fun game. I don't care about the fact that "it's half a game". Because the game thats there is great.

Nope lol.

I like games that let you choose. MMX4 which lets you choose between Zero and X. Or Resident Evil 2 which lets you choose between Leon and Claire. Having one character and then suddenly playing as another character is dumb to me and always has been. I should be offered a choice of when and where I get to play as a character.

Really? That sounds great. I was REALLY disappointed by that game after 3. I haven't played it since release.

Lady replaces Nero and trish replaces Dante.

You might be able to do Vergil in both.

Some of the platforming parts rely on you having certain movement options (like the devil arm grab or ladies equivalent, a grappling hook).

The characters do overall play differently though.

No, SE is: Nero/Dante, Virgil, Lady/Trish. In those orders.

Exactly this. Lady/Trish are the Nero/Dante of SE. Virgil is the only one able to be played all the way through, but it just shows that the second half really should've been axed and each character do the first ten or so levels with the final boss. Something they seemed to have learned with 5.

Loved it, even the janky online multiplayer. Wish it got a sequel.

But it's more "3D beat-em-up" than "character action game."
