Title: Proud dad moment
Post by: Potato on May 25, 2019, 08:58:13 AM
Had a really proud dad moment today. My 5-year-old son scored his first goal. Big achievement for him, he was so happy.

What's your proud dad moment?

My little one is just 17 months old. Seeing her walk her first couple of steps toward me was one of the most beautiful moments (among lots of other proud dad situations).

They'll only get a warning while they're still kids so take advantage of their ability to get away with criminal acts while you can.

I feel like I have a proud dad moment every day or two. I think I'm easily pleased, the kid's probably shit. Latest one though, while reading her school book:

Kid: "Professor Tangle said "I've got the key...""

Mrs: "Got is not pronounced like that, it's Got*"

Kid: "Yeah, sure, but I read that in Professor Tangle's accent."

Me: "Ha! she fucking GOT you"

*I guess this whole exchange is pointless in text. In essence, me and the kid speak with a regional dialect, whereas the missus is pure RP. Didn't stop kiddo making up some shit to get one over on the actual linguist in the family though.

I also asked her how many footprints would be left behind by two quadripeds and a biped and she got it right. Given that she's five, that made my chest swell.

I have to say, being a dad is extremely rewarding.

This week my son got an award at the school assembly for the huge improvement he's had with his reading. My daughter's teacher also sent a note home saying that she is currently reading at an end of year 3 level and she's only halfway through year 1.

School sports carnival today. My kids aren't shaming me by being terrible at sports. Not exactly covering themselves in ribbons though. Solid middling performances.

There are so many but here are some recent ones:

-When we were going to great grandpas birthday I said I have to wear my nicest clothes and she said "just wear your Arsenal jersey"  daddy's girl :-*

-The other she was not eating dinner and I told her the longer it takes the less time we have to play before bedtime, oooh boy, she def got the logic. Fast forward to her going to town to shop with my wife, wife was parking and daughter says "the longer it takes you to park the less time we can shop"  love it when she takes a concept to heart

-she got me mug that day that said DAD and she got it cause she read it herself and suggested getting it for me to mom

There really is something every day, hard to think of things now :)

very cute thread. i've been in long term relationships and bailed when talk of procreation started. wanted them as a late teen/in my early 20s, but the reality of what it requires set in and i haven't felt like it since. i feel like there was a slice of time where my naivety would've led to just jump in, but that passed. i'm now starting to consider it again though.

My dossier says he has a daughter who watches PewDiePie so his son was probably calling the libertarians giant dads for not embracing the great replacement as an existential threat to the white race.

Not having to send my pets to college because they're pets

Also always having the option to feed them to a python and get away with it, can't do that with kids, people will ask questions

Kid's going through a bit of a time mentally at the moment. No real specific causes, I think she's just feeling a bit 'off'. I'm so proud of how well she's communicating with me about it, and how she seems to understand what she can control and what she can't.

Bit of a weird one, but I'm definitely feeling very appreciative of who she is at the moment. She's a great kid.

Korean adaptation of Aikido as far as I know. The school was local and the fees were reasonable and it was a serious school rather than a play-based school like some of the other places.

My main reason to take him was to learn some discipline from having to repeat and perfect routines and moves. He's a very easily distracted kid who finds most things very easy, especially sports and physical activities. This is something that will continually challenge him, and there will always be someone better too, so it will keep his ego in check.

That's such an important skill to learn at that age. Kids that don't learn to express how they feel or even understand what is in their control will just end up one of those annoying brats that has constant meltdowns.

My eldest daughter is a few months away from 4. She's got a few classic sensory issues, but is also quite advanced academically.

All of this pales into comparison though, when her kindergarten gave us an update to say that she actually joins in the circles now (she previously either stood on her own across the room or sat with her back to everyone else) and has made a best friend, who invited her to a birthday party. This is this good shit that makes me proudest. She works so fucking hard on developing a level of social skills that to most kids is second nature that when she has a kindergarten day, she gets home and immediately sleeps for a couple of hours before getting on with the rest of her day.

 :ohyeah

So, this thread has gone full circle.

My daughter finally scored her first goal today. She won a penalty and scored it. Absolutely smashed it in off the post. Almost a perfect penalty.

She's been playing for 3 and 1/2 years and I didn't think she'd ever get a goal. It's been hard for her because my son has been scoring goals for fun for the last three years.

Super happy right now.
