They're gone now but my older bro had a Vic20 and a C64 back in the day. Loved me some Scare City Motel.

I liked your post for the first sentence and am making a post to express my disgust at your last sentence.

The Euro early PC wars were savage as fuck and the SEGA vs Nintendo thing almost felt like Europe vs Rest of the World lmao

I replayed my C64 collection a few years ago and the few games that hold up decently have better versions on other systems. I rather not play anything older than a NES.

Nu-age Niccas have no idea that Playstation vs Xbox war has NOTHING on the war between C64 and Atari 65XL in Poland in the late 80s. Dat shit was a bloodbath.

It was all about Nintendo vs. Sega back then!  :wag

I love my memories about my c64. So, I'll choose to keep them exactly as that.

I don't really need to re-live playing games like  Legacy of the Ancients, Karateka or Superstar Ice Hockey again.

Never really got into the C64, due to the load times on the original hardware... what's worth playing? The Ultima ports were pretty good, right?

The only old-school computer I have any experience with is an Apple IIe, because that's what my school had when I was a young lad. Mystery House was the GOAT.

I had some friends that had Commodore Vic 20, 64, 128, Amiga but my first computer was a Laser 128 (Apple II clone).  A lot of cool games for it.  My favorite was Gemstone Warrior, kind of a randomized timed dungeon game combined with "dual stick" (via the keyboard) shooting mechanics.

Bard's Tale
Aliens
Epyx "Games" series (esp. California Games)
Impossible Mission
Inflitrator
International Karate
The Last Ninja
Defender of the Crown
Maniac Mansion
Lode Runner
Turrican
Bruce Lee
The Way of the Exploding Fist
Wasteland
AutoDuel
Skate or Die
Airborne Ranger

I like both 8-bit Atari and C64.
The best thing about the 8-bit Ataris was the color palette/resolution.

256 colors!

I got one of the minis from Marshall's for $10,  The selection of games is underwhelming but I can play hacky sack in California Games again.

>In an age of NES vs MasterSystem/Megadrive.

:yikes I didn't realize Poland was that poor.

More seriously: If you can't program games on this...

I've been playing my C64 Mini more.  "Hacking" it basically involves getting a new firmware file and putting it (along with the games you want to play) on a USB stick.  I found some old 500MB stick (remember when that was a huge amount of memory?) and easily added about 300 games.  I'm actually pretty interested in the version with a working keyboard.  I forgot how many games used it to get around the joystick only having 1 button.  Not to mention the RPGs.  I'd like to replay the Bard's Tale trilogy at some point.
