Whatever remake you could conceive for Chrono Trigger in your head would be easier to develop, reimagine, and recreate.
-
Chrono Trigger DS was pretty good, yeah. The extra dungeon was neat.

I really need to get myself a DS

I actually really disliked the cutscenes they added to Chrono Trigger for PS1 when I played that. (Not that I felt any better about similar efforts.)
There's something about the morose and almost desperate feeling the original game creates for most of the locations in the timeline, especially in line with the musical score, that changing the pacing is more dramatic than once games were built with cutscenes in mind like FF VII. Some of the other FF remakes have had similar trouble with this.
I considered playing the Steam version of VIII a while back to see how it's held up after not touching it this century until I remembered the summons. Though maybe they patched in a skip button.

FFVIII HD remaster will have a summon skip option. :)
-
I also don’t get this thread. If square of today remade CT they’d extend the part where you first go into the past 20 hours and cut the game into multiple parts.
There also hasn’t been a CT remake as far as I know. Just ports with nothing significant added except fmvs.

the ds port had a bunch of extras but they were added by tose

1. there's a psx tunes mod
and
2. you can mod it to play orchestrated music
Footage of me playing FFVIII pc modded.

Orchestrated songs in this video include Balamb Garden and Blue Fields (world map theme). They are from the Fiithos Winosec Wecos Vinosec soundtrack.
-
Oh right the battle theme is orchestrated too. Owns.
-
true, i haven't played it on pc since back in the day when it first came out. but yeah, i'll wait 'til the remaster for a replay.
edit: that orchestrated ost mod is so sick

Summons in FFVIII are for Junctioning only, ya' dope. :doge
Also yeah, playing with Rose&wine mod is a must, even though i still prefer the PS1 version emulated, so i can use the d-pad.

XENOGEARS Remake >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anything Else Remake
I wanted to like FFVIII so bad back then, but it didn't grab me like VII, or VI did for that matter. But wanting to get the FF8 demo so bad, I sucked it up to buy Brave Fencer Musashi... and absolutely LOVED that game!!
Tried to give FFVIII another try recently and it bored the living piss outta me just trying to get out of that stupid ass school... So yeah, it needs more a remake too. The demo started off soooooooo much better.
-
The school bits are short. FFVIII has amazing pacing. Shame it didn’t grab you.
