3DS is still $150 so if you look at it that way, this is an easy upgrade.
The Switch soc already has usb-c on it so it's weird to remove the docking feature of it. I assume it still uses that to charge?
If Animal Crossing had cloud backups, I might not mind having a dedicated portable system for it... but AC does not support cloud saves, so...¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Would be cool if you could mod an existing Switch dock so this fit, and then see if it hopefully just works at that point... :thinking

I thought all the games support cloud saves on Switch?
I thought all the games support cloud saves on Switch?
Switch does not have a save management system (outside of deletion.) Certain games support Cloud Saves -- a paid feature as part of Nintendo Switch Online. Otherwise, if you damage or lose your system, you're fucked.
Additionally, games can opt out of supporting Cloud Saves, and frequently do if they have a significant online component (ex. Splatoon 2 and Pokemon Let's Go) in order to prevent "cheating." This is the current reasoning on why Animal Crossing: New Horizons will not support Cloud Saves.
I signed the petition (https://www.change.org/p/nintendo-ask-nintendo-to-allow-backup-game-saves-in-animal-crossing-new-horizons?utm_content=cl_sharecopy_16217004_en-US%3Av7&recruiter=516073784&recruited_by_id=7f717fa0-f2e7-11e5-a870-4d7fe568894c&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&share_bandit_exp=initial-16217004-en-US&share_bandit_var=v1) because I disagree; there is literally no save file as important as the one for Animal Crossing to an Animal Crossing player.
Would be cool if you could mod an existing Switch dock so this fit, and then see if it hopefully just works at that point... :thinking
There already are smaller docks and mods to take the Nintendo dock and make it smaller, which this unit would fit onto. Guess we'll find out, but it wouldn't make sense for Nintendo to say it doesn't work with HDMI-out only for it to actually do so. :thinking
200 is still too much for its library that makes it feel like a retro console
So like the battery is smallerthe whole device including the screen is also smaller so the battery will last longer
My full size switch lasts 3 hours on a good day. It's already unacceptable, so this thing would drive me insane. Reminds me of OG 3ds.
I wonder if the dock mode limitations are physical, I.e. it can’t support the upclock or whatever because of thermals.
Quote200 is still too much for its library that makes it feel like a retro console
:confused
Does this thing still allow a bajillion controllers to connect to it? Smaller screen might make that hard anyway but that would be the real shitty part
Seems like you can connect joycons and such but uh yeah no charging them on it obviously so you’d need a charge stand... this is for babbys
The name of this thing. It can't switch, it is completely off brand.

Then again, it'll sell a fuck ton to kiddo's upgrading their 3DS's and people double dipping for a Switch that's easier to carry around.
The design, unlike the Switch, looks very classic cheap Nintendo.
If Switch still kept saves on carts & everything was physical like 3ds, this would be nice.
But with Nintendo’s crap online and buying most Switch games digital, I feel like swapping between this and docked switch for games would be a pain in the ass.

Legit jealous of the d pad but that's about it. I think I end up averaging about 2/3 docked play vs 1/3 handheld laziness in bed, so the completely handheld aspect of it is a no starter for me.
So much Vita salt in this thread. Lol.
My Switch sees almost no use, but I would definitely buy a Vita 2.0 that plays:
- FFXII
-a new Platinum Character Action game
-SMT
-Animal Crossing
-Fire Emblem
:idont
If you want a d-pad, you can always either get the Hori joycon or mod/buy a pre-modded joycon with d-pad for full functionality. Been using a modded joycon for a year and it's great!

I can't really commit to any Switch games knowing that I can't play it away from a television screen for more than a couple hours without needing a full charge.
Would love to play Chocobo Mystery Dungeon, but I can't imagine sitting in front of a giant bigscreen for it.
No tv out? Lol fuck that, what a bunch of cheap assholes. The OG PSP has a fucking tv out, and that’s without a library of games built for multiplayer and a tv.

A $20 external battery backup will get you enough to run for like 10+ hours
I am kinda surprised the battery life isn't at least double with a smaller lower-power (handheld only mode) hardware coming 2 years later in tech advances.
Only had my switch run out of battery on flights/trains but yeah would be nice if that didn't happen.
I'm seeing cooling vents; does it have a fan?
How is that Hori joycon with the d-pad?
is everyone throwing a hissy fit about the lack of tv out forgetting that handheld mode generally runs at like some bullshit playstation 2 resolution?
Rip to clam shell handhelds. :(
And yet the Vita didn't have TV-out either.
Is this still considered a Switch then?? Their marketing since the beginning has been dumb as nutcups.

https://twitter.com/pomegd/status/1149086048003080192would pay $500 for a Switch that emits a piercing BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPP when started in docked mode
How does the $199 contrast with other Nintendo handheld prices when they launched? I think 3DS was more expensive, no?
Yeah I don’t even want to think about trying to play Smash on any smaller of a screen tbh

Bowser confirmed this is the only new Switch model this year (no Switch Pro until 2020), and that new shipments of the existing Switch will have a refreshed SoC (the same new Tegra in Switch Lite) and flash storage (likely upgrading to a faster type.)

There’s a refreshed SOC? Is it just on a smaller process?
With regards t210b01's improvements, higher clocks and lower voltages suggest a drop from a 20nm processor design down to 16nm FinFET instead - but Tegra X1 was always an outlier, a production chip running on an experimental fabrication process Nvidia never chose to pursue for its mainstream GPUs - and I wonder if the firm is following the same procedure with its replacement, mitigating the cost of exploring 7nm technology by sharing costs with Nintendo. Only a teardown of the new Switch revision(s) will give us the physical dimensions that allow us to firmly identify how the t210b01/t214 is manufactured, but the increase in clocks seen in the DVFS tables would likely favour 16nmFF, a mature process and a good fit for a mass-produced console.

Good Nintendo getting more of that Japanese market. Also the first Nintendo handheld since gba micro that doesn’t have a clam shell. Rip to clam shell handhelds. :( The DS is truly over and now I weep.
Want a Switch Mini.
Integrated, non-detachable Joycons, maybe clamshell design?
Smaller form factor (~4.5" screen.)
No dock in the package.
$149.

Thjs makes sense, especially if you're buying it for your kids that keep bumping it into shit or lose joycons left and right.
199$ for half the functionality is still too much for me though (especially since Mario Odyssey is the only game out, i'm interested in).
Is this still considered a Switch then??
It's just a brand name...? And it's a hell of a lot better than "3DS" and "Wii U." IMO their naming is back on track after like 15 years of misses and near-misses.

Even Andy-kun is out here not defending the fuck-tarded thumbstick placements.
Andy-kun not an alien, confirmed.
I'll wait the 18 months when they redesign and come out with a better version of this.
No... I'm talking about the marketing when it first came out. Calling it a Switch in the first place... When all they do is Snap in their advertising. :dogeIs this still considered a Switch then?? Their marketing since the beginning has been dumb as nutcups.
What purpose would changing the name do apart from cause consumer confusion?. It says "Switch" so people know what games they can buy for it.
:idont
You're gonna miss Animal Crossing's launch. :( Which for most people is really the best/only time to play...

Problem solved.

hahah, good one.
I learned my lesson long ago that the worst value in gaming was being a Day One Nintendo fan*.
* - being a "bleeding edge" pc gamer is way worse, but you get my point.
I'm positive that lack of TV out is a thermal thing. They can build it smaller/cheaper if they know they never have to clock it up to the Docked resolution.
You don't want to see portable mode resolution running on a TV.

I guess that's an issue? Do you mean how close they are together or just that it's not the Dual Shock config?
Just be thankful it's not Wii U config (symmetrical, but displacing the fucking buttons??)

I'm 99% docked using the Pro Controller, so the small size of the JoyCons/Switch Lite isn't an issue.

This announcement made me check the library again and it's an even bigger dumpster fire than I thought :camby https://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html?site=switch&cat=0&year=0&numrev=0&sort=0&letter=&search= Sorting out a majority (but not all) of its redundant ports by only searching for high review counts and this looks WiiU-tier.
Luigi 3 and Cuphead as a physical collectable were peaking my interest, but at this point it should be better to wait until something like Bayo 3 hits and/or when the Mini is like a hundred bucks on ebay.
can’t wait to really stroke that
I used to beat it like once a day in the summer
Switch really gives me “playin with my old brick gameboy in a tree” vibes when I play it in my hammock, can’t wait to really stroke that nostalgia boner when the LA remake comes out, I used to beat it like once a day in the summer eating plums in a plum tree.(https://thumbs.gfycat.com/PowerlessImpressionableIndiancow-size_restricted.gif)
Funny because many switch owners say switch has way, way too many games and I believe them.
Should become a pharmabro.
Funny because many switch owners say switch has way, way too many games and I believe them.
So did Velveta owners, and they ran like shit (15FPS Ninja Gaiden. MMMMMMMMMMMMMM) or were ported to PC a year before/later.
I mean, if you love your Shitch: Cool. More power to you, but let's not beat around the bush and not say the system is an underpowered P.O.S. that gets some pretty bad ports (Hi, Bloodstained) that Nintendo fans lick the shit from because "muh first time playing it!"

There's tons of games... if you're 12 y/o or the kind of fekkit that didn't have any of the other 20 platforms that played Resident Evil 5 in the last decade (and long realized it's shit anyway). And which probably offer it at a fraction of the Switch port's price right now :nope
There's a few things I thought I'd rather play on a handheld, like Capcom Beat'Em'Up Bundle, but the exclusives still can't justify the thing and everything else is just too expensive considering it's almost all retro. Rather get Megadrive Mini for a little more than the price of whatever single full priced 10 y/o Switch port.
e: also gotta wait on what deficits the new hardware is showing down the line.
Also, titty games.
I like Breath of the WIld
I get Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games and PC/Xbox for anything else. Any extra non-Nintendo games on Switch are just a bonus for me.
The dark, dark secret of the Switch is that people gushing about "all these games" just want to play them on a handheld, because they are bad people with bad taste that should feel bad. The Switch's library is like 3 great exclusives (Fire Emblem, Mario Odyssey, and Breath of the Wild but I mean I guess you could count the weeeeooo version whatever) and a bunch of ports and indie jank, it's just that people like playing shit on handhelds for some ungodly reason.spoiler (click to show/hide)The Swtich's entire existence is justified by giving us Three Houses, bless up fam[close]

OK, but for comparison, what do you consider great exclusives for the PS4?

The dark, dark secret of video games in general this gen is that each platform only has a couple* of great exclusives. IDK I guess if you're into soulsborne games, Bloodborne is a great game you can only play on PS4. I am not, so ymmv. Other people really liked HZD, I thought it was ok. Dad of War? I bought it for $20 and haven't opened it yet. With the HD consoles you're really just paying for a box that will play multiplat stuff in higher resolutions on your teevee. I mostly game on my pc.
*not counting the Xbone, which has none lol
I think the true dark secret is that all of these games could have been done on the 360 with worse graphics but otherwise minimal changes.
Gears 4 issue wasn't wokeness, it was having like 57842374098 kinds of lootboxes in MP, including sponsored lootboxes. :doge Luckily Gears 5 is supposed to be removing that nonsense.
