Title: Atelier Ryza And The Selling Power Of Thighs~
Post by: Great Rumbler on November 09, 2019, 03:58:50 PM
Atelier Ryza is about

1. A girl [Ryza] who leads...
2. The physically strong but rudderless proletariat [Lent]...
3. And the educated but feckless intelligentsia [Tao]...
4. Against the autocratic aristocracy [Moritz]...
5. And unchecked capitalist greed [the Klint Kingdom]...
6. With the help of the exploited indigenous people [Lila]

Yeah, is this game for me? Is it big bouncy tiddy “watch the women demean themselves for our entertainment” anime sexy or young flat-chested “it’s sexy because they should be scared” anime sexy?

Like, on a scale of 1 to 10 of weeb shit, how embarrassing is the original Ryza?

(1 being something like Cowboy Bebop that even normies exposed to it think is "cool," and 10 being something hypothetical that bork wouldn't even leave out where a casual passerby could see it)

Like...a 6, maybe? It's definitely animu, and some of the outfits are pretty ridiculous, but it's not that bad.

If you get it from the eShop, it's on sale right now for $34.99 IIRC.  But if you don't use it in handheld, might as well go for the better-looking versions.

I have been keeping an eye on this one for a while as a lot of people have said it is best Atelier and I really like the aesthetic of this game (even though it's kind of generic animu) . vaguely tempted as it hasn't really gone on sale yet, but I should probably wait until I will actually play it.  :notlikethis

Ryza seems to be $35-$40 digital on all platforms at the moment.  If you want to go physical, the PS4 version is around $40 and Switch...uh...better get a Euro version, because the U.S. version goes for $100+ now, lol.

Yeah, low print run plus no reprint because Koei-Tecmo said that Switch carts were too expensive.

I get PS4.

I also get not having physical copies for indie stuff/2d stuff.

But why wouldn't a publisher make a physical copy for a PS5 game when PS5 games will all sell like hotcakes early on when there's not much software? Seems crazy.

Maybe they don't think the game will 'sell like hotcakes' on PS5?  I don't know the sales numbers, but the physical Switch game is waaaay more popular than the PS4 version and keeps selling out.

IIRC, you get the PS5 version as an upgrade if you buy it on PS4, so maybe they think that's enough.

Atelier is one of those series I keep buying games from "because one day I'll get to them"... but truthfully the only one I've played through was Iris, back when that first came out in the US.

I'm not into alchemy/crafting stuff nor time limits. When it comes to RPGs, I like epic journeys with great music and interesting world design. What's the best Atelier game for someone like me?

Wanted to try the first one on Switch, never bought it. Heard the sequel is pretty much an improvement in every category. Bought a physical copy.

Don't see the point of playing the first one if number two is better
 :idont

The first one is still $60+ for Switch. Ryza 2 looks and runs well on everything based on impressions and reviews. PC version has actual graphics settings and the Switch version doesn't have performance issues.

They all have a lot of crafting, so you're out of luck there, but most of the latter entries don't have a time limit [or a very lenient time limit]. Really, Atelier Ryza is probably the best place to start since it's a complete overhaul of their formula [the first major overhaul since the series moved to PS3 back in the day] and it doesn't have any story or character connections to any of the previous games. Clean slate and all that. But if you wanna go back to one of the earlier games, Escha & Logy is really good.

Pretty sure Ryza 2 is like a direct continuation of the first game's story with a lot of the same returning characters.  I'm back on it and will go through it before trying 2.

Speaking of which, I feel like I'm already "stuck" in Ryza trying to find where certain characters are to trigger story events.  I can't remember where some of them are. :lol

Well my Atelier Ryza 1 came with an empty fucking box with no Switch cart and the seller resealed the game. Some London Brexit fuck stole the cart and sent me the box. I guess this game is rare enough that the box itself is considered to be $60+.

Got a refund and will order again. Crossing my fingers that I'm not mouth fucked again.

I like the new ATB combat system, helps the battles flow a little more smoothly feels like. Definitely an improvement in a lot of areas over the previous games in the series, not even big things necessarily but tweaks and changes to make the game more fun.
