Someone on Twitter described this as Grover Truck (a reference to Something Awful's Grover House) and I can't unsee it.

Is anyone in the mood to start a metal band? I can get into this. I can make that a chant with a little work. Could be a tagline for Cybertruck.
So Elon Musk likes Virtua Racing a lot...
looks like it's from ridge racer on the ps1You guys are putting way too many polys in that model, think more like Stunt Race FX. It just needs some googly eyeballs on the front.

This promotional logo :jeanluc Looks like something he scrawled on a napkin and asked to be adapted.
To show off the robust design of the new pickup, Musk enlisted his head of design, Franz von Holzhausen, to take a sledgehammer to the side of the vehicle, whose exterior will be made from the same stainless steel used in the Starship rocket developed by Musk’s SpaceX aerospace company.
The crowd cheered when it bounced off the surface without leaving a mark.
But the truck’s windows were not as fortunate, cracking like spiderwebs when von Holzhausen threw metal balls at them
“Oh my fucking God, well, maybe that was a little too hard,” Musk said, when his head of design, Franz von Holzhausen, cracked the driver’s side window with a metal ball in a series of pre-planned tests for the crowd.
He allowed von Holzhausen another throw to the rear passenger window, only to see that crack as well.
“It didn’t go through, so that’s a plus side,” Musk said, adding: “Room for improvement”.
anyone who thinks this looks nice should die in prison
Stainless? Why would you use a heavy and expensive metal for this? It sacrifices so much efficiency.
It’s from his rocket ship. It’s probably super high tech like Grimes music.

It's not supposed to look "nice." Man, fuck this culture. You are why we can't have interesting things. Everything has to be "good" or "nice" or "pretty." You've allowed yourself to only appreciate one tiny corner of the entire grid, and way too many people are similar. You're holding progress back. You're holding aesthetics back. You're holding humanity's potential back. You are probably too old to be corrected.
People like you run the world, and it is a shitty place.
I think it looks bad but I agree with this. Listen to Morbid Angel and slam your face into a desk once in a while right?
I do hope this encourages other auto makers to freshen up their dreadfully dated designs. We should nationalize the auto industry for resting at good enough after they made cars sorta aerodynamic 25 years ago. Outside of things like simple tools, in what other field do designs stay basically the same, nearly around the board, for 25 years? Er, how long have Marvel movies been going on again?

This was extremely apparent when I had to get a new car last year after mine got totaled- it's like every car out there is a Honda Fit clone, a (whoever did crossovers first) clone, or a big-ass bulky SUV. The few sedan and coupe types left also all look like each other. Especially the Hondas and Toyotas. There's just a couple of sports cars that stand out from the pack, but even they all haven't changed much to keep that iconic look, I guess.
"Generic" design isn't going to stop me from getting a vehicle (unless there is something comparable with a better or unique look), but it's just so boring. Reminds of mobile phone design post-iPhone.

I thought modern cars had to implement a rounded front by law. :thinking

While I doubt anyone is going to mistake one for the other, recently while driving a Honda HR-V passed by and I couldn't help the visual similarities it had to my little-ass Spark Activ (which to note is actually a Korean car). Particularly the "hidden" rear door latches. These are probably made in the same factories. :-[

That lives on since they just changed the name to the Toyota 86, which it went by in most other countries. And some of the Yaris hatchback models have that Scion look, but I don't like that "angry fish" grill.
So why is nobody driving around in Mad Max-style cars?! :'(I thought modern cars had to implement a rounded front by law. :thinking
The US literally doesn't have a single pedestrian protection regulation for vehicle manufacturing.

OK, hatchback styles:

More of a different look but still very much that "every hatchback" style.
At least the Type-R looks different-ish.

Yea, my timeline is all fucked up. I thought the Avalanche was released in the mid 00's, but it was much earlier than that.
Also, I forgot about the recent Jeep Gladiator. Which looks absolutely awful.
- From what I've read the lack of side mirrors and the brake light being integrated entirely on the tailgate is illegal in the US :doge Along with the eventual addition of some kind of wipers I'm curious how much will change in the design a few years from now. That just makes it more enticing to own one and in the US that's nothing President Yang or Trump can't fix with an EO after a factory tour. 8)

I didnt say its a euro thing, but I showed the euro model :) which imho is more stylish then the us one.

The Cybertruck says, “Pack up your blasters, honey—let’s get the hell out of here.” Maybe that’s the genius, though, to make a truck for the sort of people who might not think of Tesla otherwise. Does that person exist? At the very least, says Walton, “I really admire the balls.”:rejoice

Zammit realized then that the truck’s DeLorean-mated-with-a-Pontiac-Aztek aesthetic might be an effort to streamline the manufacturing process. “By being philosophically so pure and so functional, Tesla has completely eliminated a very large part of what is the traditional automotive assembly,” he says. The company might cut down on expensive tool and die costs by keeping all elements of the car flat, straight, and, frankly, a little weird looking. “Musk might be pulling off one of the most brilliant moves in automotive history,” he says. Now it all makes sense to me.

also has some strong brutalist elements. def piqued my interest. hope it's not the death of tesla lol.
wired article was good. "lack of visible crumple zone" concerns experts, and the straight panelling likely cuts down on expensive tooling costs hence 40k entry point.

visible? How about the lack of physical lack of it when it's being beat with a sledgehammer as a demonstration of its rigidity?
It's ok to like things astroturfed by spooks. For example we all enjoy foucault here. and call of duty

The letter, which is dated Thursday (Sept. 12), adds that the offer is good for two weeks — or until Sept. 26.

Motherboard granted the sources anonymity to speak candidly about a security incident. A Twitter spokesperson told Motherboard that the company is still investigating whether the employee hijacked the accounts themselves or gave hackers access to the tool.
Twitter DMs being not entirely safe has been a known thing in some circles for a long time now. Like any link you put in a DM is hit up by twitter HQ and they are cooperating with the feds in passing on info from DMs etc. Of course there's probably plenty of celebs being massive dumbasses. :teeheeIt isn't at all odd that the Donald wasn't attacked right?
Scuttlebutt is that Drumpf's account has additional protections/restrictions even compared to Biden/Obama.
It *is* a little odd Kanye is the closest to the right this attack hit, though.
Most important part of all this that I see is there's now a nonzero chance we'll see everyone's DMs on the darkweb at some point.

China's ability to roll out infrastructure projects like high speed rail is amazing, you have to wonder how many people they fuck by underpaying and taking away their land if it's in the way though.Just don't ask the the opinions of the many thousands of workers who are killed from unsafe work practices in China each year. They probably won't give you an answer.
