From the brief few times I could see skimming through there's no longer the glitching out respawn effect when falling off the board? Saw that in some vid MMaRsu posted elsewhere. They always cut before it played out fully but seems like they actually get up this time which is good.

Edit: fuck EGS exclusivity.

Also for as much as I loved THPS, I tried the first Skate and couldn't do it. I thought the concept was good, but since I'm a fighting game scrub it wasn't fun.

session and skater xl

xl is even coming to consoles already, but it's pretty bare bones feature and content wise

session very much wip, animations are janky af but the devs seem in it for the long haul at least

There was Project Session (or just "Session" now, i guess).
I dunno if it came out, but it was a bit too buggy when i tried it, the physics didn't feel too good, tbh.
There was another one i think, but i can't remember the name of it.

Skate 3 in hardcore mode is still the peak for me, hopefully they'll do a proper remaster at least, for now the best i can do is get an XboxOneX when it's super cheap, and play it in 4K there.

EDIT: The latest builds of SESSION are looking pretty good, i may give it a shot. :thinking

agree they definitely need the option to turn off the chatter/voices as why would anyone want that, but honestly aside from that this looks glorious. I just don't know what system I want on, I am thinking PS4 due couch and controller but PC is tempting. Then again EGS has sales quarterly so could likely double dip for cheap, who knows.

I do think Acti is making a huge mistake gating the demo and don't think locking it to pre-orders will net more sales than advertising a fucking warehouse demo 2.0. that or maybe partner with pizza hut again rather than fucking chipotle.

at least they went with an ok price point. I think game will be huge.

I used to be the Tony Hawk motherfucking master. I first played THPS on some bootleg disc that featured an unfinished version of the alien 51 site. Put dozens of hours into that with friends during high school. Then played them all and 100%'d them through THUG2 portable.

Couldn't get into Skate or any of the realistic ones because the combo/arcade style is what I play these for. Trying to keep a combo going across a huge level.

Hearing this plays like the originals with modern graphics is cool, it'll be fun to replay these games. But...I've already played them and 100%'d these levels & their challenges over dozens or hundred of hours.

I'd be way more excited if, like Crash 4, they took this THPS classic gameplay and made a new game with all new levels and challenges. Who knows since this is Activision like Crash, maybe if this sells really well that is what we will get.

Still picking this up day 1 and will probably 100% it.

There have been versions of the warehouse with unlockable areas in the past. I've seen some speculation that there is something to unlock in the new warehouse. The outside space is really detailed, but that could just be for looks.

The music is what is driving me to want to pick up this game. Hearing that they put in the work to get everything from the original games and adding new songs, I'm down! Hope this sells well enough to warrant them adding in 3 and 4.

Any idea on if the PS4 Pro version runs 60fps? I think I'd rather get it on PS4 than Epic Store though if the PC version runs 120/144fps that might be worth going PC.

I am pretty rusty but breezing through the levels pretty quickly so far. in addition to the 17 old tracks apparently the VV originals in the park creator are good to great. speaking of, user created parks already rolling in, some better than others. I tried one called 100000000 remix to see the line and it was just a bunch of ramps crammed in a row. when I hopped on it pulls you along with no chance of bailing so I ended up cheesing the silver trophies barely doing anything. seems there is a gold trophy for 10mil score. :awesome

Just got there and had to stop after one time down but I love how the mall is about what you'd expect from a mall in the year of our lord 2020.

Took a few mins to get back into it and reverting to manual for combos, but once it clicked was like riding a bike. Good stuff, though looking back on it and not being 12 again with no other games to play, I feel these games were pretty short and probably blow through all the goals in both games in a weekend and be left wanting more :'(

Also for the clothing gear, is that only for custom skaters? Because Tony Hawk's helmet is dumb and I want to replace it :lol

And ran fine on my setup. Pretty much locked 144fps @ 1440p maxed out with drops mostly just in the fly bys at the start.

The only thing I would've liked to see them do would be to add more/new goals to these levels because there's a lot of areas in them and room for a ton of cool goals they could add. Maybe wait until you beat the game and call them secret goals/expert goals or something.

Sure there's the "get all gaps" and a few secret challenges, but I mean more location specific ones like the main goals.

The ramp that goes off the building; you have to grind on the rail going into the park for it to count as a gap

20+ years later...still pretty good. The levels show their age a bit in their simplicity and small size for some of them. Definitely makes me look forward to a 3/4 remaster since the PS2 ones allowed larger levels with more cool stuff to do. Though I expect THPS2 to be a lot better there, like I did the hanger and the various secret areas and stuff feel more like what I remember from THPS.

All the skate parks in 1 are solid, school & mall are perfect, streets is great, downhill is sorta ok, after a few time's there's just not much to do in downhill and downtown sucks since there's not much to do and getting to the fun part on the roofs is time consuming even with the ramp shortcut to the walkway.

Looking forward to the THPS2 levels.

Like Skate Heaven is an ok level, not that interesting but I like the angelic choir for gaps, but if the one volcano jump challenge in the level is modern VV's quality of game design for goals, yeah maybe they should just stick to remaking existing games.

Anyhow, looking back on these games, THPS2 is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THPS1. One has some classic levels but the levels are so much more complex and interesting in 2 it's not even funny how large the gap is. I don't think there's a bad level in #2. Also Venice looks really nice here at sunset with all the graffiti.

It's nice to have modern versions of these games. Probably about done with this for now since don't care about MP or achievements, but maybe I'll pick it up from time to time and play some speedruns/score runs, maybe try some other characters (I can't count the amount of times with Tony Hawk that I accidentally started a 900 on a jump where I'm just trying to spin right and do a down grab).

Confused why you are mad at Skate Heaven - the volcano and the level were in the original as well, along with the secret the Volcano has. It's clear the logo was put there to point people to it

I'm currently level 59 and have only done a few of the Get Hard challenges; though I have been playing online quite a bit, so that might be why I'm getting a bunch of XP

EDIT: I'm a dumbass and see now that you already know grinding in multiplayer is probably route you have to go for level 100

Maaaan, some of these are annoying and I had to play with stats and lower some speed/air to make certain ones. Also the camera/jumping can be rough.

I feel like the only change I'd have really liked is a more precise way to jump forward out of ramps. I hold up when jumping and like 75% of the time it works and I fly out of the ramp, and 25% I just go up and down like normal. Also boneless jumping has always been and still is awful and feels totally random. On Wharehouse the transition gap from the half-pipe -> wall ride out to the ledge grind took me like 30 mins and drove me nuts because I'd overshoot or undershoot every damn time and then the taxi -> ledge boneless took a few. All the rest were fine.

Might try to do all the gaps in both games, idk.

What's a flat land? On Tony Hawk challenges there's one for the hanger to do a 30,000 combo off the outside it's cold out there without grinds/flatlands but specials are ok. Does that mean no manuals? Because I can't seem to get it with manuals and without manuals how the fuck do you get 30,000 in a single jump with no combo multiplier? The 900 is only worth like 9,000 points.

I mean, in my non-game-developer-opinion, if they stick to the classic formula, it doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to make Tony Hawk stages. Make fun interactive areas with ramps and rails and stuff you can activate to open new areas up and make gaps and skate lines and place the S-K-A-T-E letters around and hidden tape, etc... goals.

Like I'm sure it's not easy, but I think the biggest issue most TH developed games had was trying to change the formula. Just stick to this formula, don't change shit and a competent developer should be able to make stages.

That being said, if they can bring back some of the original level designers from Neversoft (who may still be at Activision in some other teams after Neversoft was closed, which should make it easier), that would probably make doing that much easier. They don't really need any of the old staff other than the level designers since VV is more than competent at visuals/animation/music/sound and the game does not need a story or writing.
