The Astro City Mini comes preloaded with a bunch of Sega arcade games. There’ll be 36 in total, and here are the confirmed titles so far, via Game Watch:
Alien Syndrome
Alien Storm
Golden Axe
Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder
Columns II
Dark Edge
Puzzle & Action: Tant-R
Virtua Fighter
Fantasy Zone
Altered Beast
The Astro City Mini looks like a shrunken-down arcade cabinet, similar to the Neo Geo Mini. Unlike that system, though, Sega says that the stick uses proper microswitches, so it should be a lot more satisfying to use. There’s an HDMI-out on the back as well as two USB-A ports, a Micro USB port, and a headphone jack. Unfortunately, there’s no word on whether it’ll have a built-in battery.
The Astro City Mini is set for a release in Japan around the end of the year, and it’ll cost 12,800 yen (about $120.)

I'm surprised they put VF and Revenge of Death Adder on there. :ohhh Wish they at least threw Virtua Racer or Sega Rally on there for a racer.

There's still 26 more games on it that haven't been announced yet.

:ohhh Well, shit.. seems reading still serves a purpose. :derp

Mini consoles I understand, but I really don't see the point of mini arcades. The controls are cramped, you can only play single player, and the screen is tiny as hell while the thing is not a portable at all. I guess they're just for collectors?

Like the NeoGeo Mini, it has HDMI-out and appears to have ports for controllers to plug into.
Personally, I would rather just have a little emu box that's cheaper, but if this is quality -unlike the NeoGeo Mini- I'll get it.

Exactly this. It's a neat little gimmick, but seems worthless unless you're able to put MAME and NullDC/etc. on it.
-
Confirmed to have controllers coming- they will be making an arcade stick and Mega Drive style controllers for it. Supposed to have a presentation tomorrow.
-
How long are they gonna dance around a Saturn Mini? :gurl
-
If it doesn't have a battery there really isn't much point. the mini neo is dumb, it's destined to be a desk tchotchke.
not that this isn't
-
FUCK YEAHHHHHHH
Disclaimer: I had an Astro City and had to give it to a buddy to take care of it when I moved to Japan.

Until there's a cheap off-the-shelf ARM SoC that can run a Saturn emulator.

I know at least with the Neo Geo Mini, you had HDMI out and could use Neo Geo CD-style gamepads. This has HDMI out as well, not sure yet if it'll have gamepads.

Given its trying to recreate an arcade machine feel, it'd be a bit weird to include things that had custom cabinets like racing games or your thunderblades / GLOCs etc.
I figure Shadow Dancer, ESWAT and Gain Ground are probably locks. Would be interesting to see if it gets Burning Rival.
-
My holy grail of SEGA arcade games that never saw a console port is Planet Harriers... it's not the greatest game but still pretty fun, and I'd love to see it on here, but I highly doubt it.
-
I wish I never sold my Astro City. It was the best cabinet I ever owned.

It was confirmed to have arcade sticks and pads.

looks dumb, why did they put more effort in to this junk and not the game gear. whatever
-
Pre-orders are open on Amazon.jp and they will ship to the States. They also have controllers available for 3,000 yen each, but these won't ship to the U.S. for whatever reason.

Arcade layout for the original was GPK. The one you did is still pretty close anyway. I'd be fine if it was like that.

Pretty nice list all in all, the lack of After Burner and Outrun are the most startling omissions, but I guess they didn't want to splurge on licenses from Northrop Grumman and Ferrari. Had to actually look up "Sonic Boom" because I thought it was that weird Sonic trackball game but it's just a generic shmup...
-
Arabian Fight and Radmobile are pretty nice additions. I wish we had more like those and less of the games that get included on all the other Sega collections.

Were After Burner and Outrun ever on Astro City cabinets?
And dammit that stick is making me lean even more into getting one of these.
-
Probably going to regret this but pre-ordered that stick for me and a friend.

VF apparently has input lag. :-\
-
Ours got shipped by Amazon.co.jp but was undeliverable for whatever reason, it didn’t even get out of Japan... Sucks because it was with a bunch of other limited goods that are sold out.
I’ll have to get it from somewhere else.
-
The VF emulation sucks. Drops frames and is laggy. 720p is neat to see though. Build quality of the thing is great.
Physically, the stick is fucking awesome. Also works on Pi and MiSTER and PC ofc. It uses DirectInput instead of Xinput so that's kind of fucked; it won't work on PS3 or via a Brook adapter to any of the consoles.
I wanted to get another stick for a buddy of mine but it's sold out in Japan atm.

Coming to 'Murica, care of LRG. We're not getting the stick tho.
-
Those are going to sell out instantly. It's nice that it's coming out here but it'd been better if somebody that didn't do this limited production artificial scarcity nonsense was putting it out, think this could move more than 3500.

If anyone wants one, they're discounted on Amazon.jp for the next 12 hours or so.

Sega's Astro City Mini is getting a new version that features a vertically-oriented screen, it has been revealed.
The Astro City Mini V looks much like the original, but its screen is tilted 90 degrees to accommodate 'TATE' games. Taito is taking a similar route with its similar Egret II Mini, which is due out soon and has a screen that can be manually rotated 90 degrees depending on the game you're playing.
The Astro City Mini V will include the following titles from the likes of Toaplan, Raizing and (of course) Sega itself:

Zaxxon
Action Fighter
Wrestle War
Desert Breaker
Raiden
Batsugun
Dogyuun
V-V / Grind Stormer
Same! Same! Same! / Fire Shark
Outzone
Tatsujin / Truxton
Tatsujin / Truxton II
Kingdom Grandprix
Armed Police Batrider
Battle Bakraid
Strikers 1945
Gunbird
Moon Cresta
Sengoku Ace
Cosmo Police Galivan
Sonic Wings
The Astro City Mini V launches in Summer 2022 and will cost 19,580 Yen ($172 USD / £129).

Occasionally I'd remember that the original existed and consider getting it, but the the lineup just felt kinda "meh." Lots of games that show up in every Sega collection. This new one has me really interested, though, since only a few of the Psikyo games have gotten modern releases.

It's priced too high, IMO.
-
MSRP looks about $40 more than the first one, with less games, too, so that's unfortunate.
-
A way to play Tatsujin II without forking over a grand plus for the Marty version is pretty cool.
