Title: Unexpected moments of emotion from videogames
Post by: mormapope on October 29, 2020, 11:11:23 AM
Basically, you're playing a game and feeling fine or chipper, and then something happens that gets you emotional, instant mood change.

Lumines has the ability to make me cry on a regular basis, especially playing with decent headphones. It's something about the audio/visual/vibration combination that stirs stuff inside.  :doge

A lot of codec conversations between Raiden and Rose in MGS2....they had no impact on me as a kid or teenager. As an adult and having been in relationships, they really do hit me on a personal level.

I realize that Beyond: Two Souls isn't a great game by any stretch (soundtrack is pretty strong though). David Cage can write some steaming piles of crap. Yet I pretty much broke down when Ellen Page's character has to leave her current home which is essentially in a lab where Willem DeFoe's character is her father figure.

I had (or still have) a not so great relationship with my old man.

In the scene Ellen's character is being told that she has to go and leave to join some military organization (David Cage time baby  ::)) which yeah whatever. But she's balling her eyes out as she goes back to her room to collect what she wants to take with her to wherever she is going. Her sadness at the moment is that she feels she is being abandoned by the person who is supposed to provide her with unconditional love. And she hates what Willem's character has done to let this happen, but really she just wishes it never had to happen in the first place.

I have very similar feelings where I wish my dad was a better dad and was there for me (since then he has tried more to give him some credit). In the moment I was playing out this scene in the game I had recently had an exchange with him that was very upsetting to me. So yeah when this little vignette played out in Beyond: Two Souls I balled like a baby.

I love the codec calls in MGS2. Love the Rose/Raiden relationship.

Demi mocked me for it at the time, but I still felt connected to “my family” from Fable 2. When I was done with the story, I still stayed on for a bit to say goodbye.

It's because the ending theme is a tear-jerker.

If you fail the interrogation, does Meryl always die?

If so I think she may have died.. cant say 100% for sure how I ended it.

I just remember being emotional by the story being told and the credits, I think Meryll says some stuff. It was just an insane ride haha.

Yeah if you give up during the interrogation you ride off with Otacon instead  :D and yeah Meryl dies. Of course according to canon you do not fail the interrogation and thus Meryl lives.
