Is it that he appeared on Rogan's podcast? Because he's banging Grimes? Because of his white male privilege? Economic or political reasons?
He's just a guy, who care
-
He certainly attracts a certain type of crowd. He’s just a more suave grifter.
-
he's the most 'normal' super rich dude cos he shit posts on twitter, which attracts a large number of loyal dickriders and haters in seemingly equal measure :trumps
-
all of the above, and having a personality and interests the common nerd can relate to: future tech, hype, stonks, video games, gregarious personality. he's got a lot of a certain kind of cultural cachet
-
It's almost as if nerds want to be bullied
-
He doesnt seem super interesting to me tbh
-
If he gets Starlink going and it works proper (in my area), so that i can go back to the countryside and have very fast internet, i'll suck his dick.
But he is that kind of guy that some people (usually more on the libertarian spectrum) really love. :thinking
Probably because he acts like an internet troll, and dumps money in these corny sci-fi ideas.
-
he's the king of the midwits.
-
All the people who let their Wired magazine subscription lapse needed to find a new messiah.
-
Marketing
-
He's a really good marketer basically with some track record--Tesla is not a joke.
-
He's a weird nerd who got super-rich and can insult people via Twitter with impunity.
-
Because his favorite game is Deus Ex
But mainly media attention and marketing. He has zoned in on three things that are popular among men and speaks to their imagination: finance, cars and space travel.
He made all those seemingly boring things that only boomers cared about hip and cool for a wider audience.
-
He's a big dick daddy, like Donald Trump and Nintex

He’s a guy who has been in the right place at the right time more than once. Many people think this makes him smart, I think he is lucky, driven, and I remember that his parents are rich, so he started off with an advantage. He’s also smart enough to work on his public image, he stays fit and got hair implants when he started balding.
-
I dislike the guy as much as the next internet lefty, but many people have rich parents, and not many of them end up spending that money in things that may end up with something of public interest, so there's that to at least consider.
I think making electric cars a "cool" status symbol was a net positive for example (too bad supporting crypto kind of cancels that effort out), whatever he's doing with SpaceX not as pragmtic, but still interesting and potentially positive.
And Starlink also seems like a potentially good idea, though i'm worried about atmosphere pollution.
The tunnel thing i don't get.
It's annoying that he gets hailed as some kind of humanity's savior, but that's another story.
For example someone like Carmack is also obviously a cunt bordering on sociopath, but they've done some cool tech shit. :doge

Luck is paramount where people like Musk move. Any highly competitive field.
Hard work earns your ticket, but you need to draw a winning number, too.
-
take me to mars daddy musk
:drool

Herman told The New York Times that (as the Times put it) "minutes before the crash, the men's wives watched them leave in the Tesla after they said they wanted to go for a drive and were talking about the vehicle's Autopilot feature."
Cops “almost 99.9% sure” Tesla had no one at the wheel before deadly crash (https://arstechnica.com/cars/2021/04/cops-almost-99-9-sure-tesla-had-no-one-at-the-wheel-before-deadly-crash/)
-
Lotta weird nerds in that Ars comment section lmfao, full on victim blaming two dead guys to protect Daddy Musk :dead
