I feel like if Bork has time, he'd be a good fit to take on running the site if demi is over it. Feels like he's the most moddy mod we've got, posts often and has tech skills. Obv depends on if he'd want to spend the effort. I'm down to pay for the site costs. Discord is too weird for me.

I'm also kind of surprised that in 2023, websites don't just run themselves and require actual upkeep to stay alive. In like 20+ years of forums they haven't been able to automate these things?

I know demi said he doesn't want to archive the forum but if he or Joe were willing to export the database, which should probably be in the admin panel*, before the forum expired I'd see about attaching it to the alt-Bore as a read-only archive with just the usernames attached. What I installed has a number of merge options including a full one but I think just attaching an archive would be smarter than trying to import the user accounts and stuff. I'm not the biggest fan of letting it all disappear but I wouldn't expect anyone to want to go through the effort.
Everybody's always welcome on alt-Bore and I'm open to discussing whatever people might want to do there or here while it lasts/when it works regarding trying to keep the community going. If bork, Joe and demi sign up I'll certainly make them moderators even if it's just for the status as I said in the other thread.

Want to talk shit about reee? Fine. Do it. But when this site dies and you beg for an archive of nearly twenty year old material people have the right to ask you "why the fuck do you need it? And why won't you let our past fucking die already?" You will have a serious wall of objection. So no, we shouldn't let people do what they like and any attempt to archive this site should be rebuffed and questioned with legitimacy.

Nobody begged for an archive or felt they were owed one. Demi said he wasn't going to do it, all I did was offer that if the problem was setting one up and maintaining it I would do so (alongside the alt-Bore in some way) but in order to do that I would need the minimum effort of having the database exported. (Something that can be done with one click into a zip file.) I was not demanding anything, merely offering a solution to a potential issue.
Although I have no obsessive need to preserve the forum (and I get anxiety if I go to read something I wrote older than a few weeks) if you'd like to know why I might want to do this it's pretty simple: I think it's an unabashed good thing to preserve history and knowledge. I think it's a foolish belief to pretend you can erase and escape the past, and even more so to presume you know what should be memory holed. In the other thread you expressed your gratitude at members of the forum giving you the impetus to change for the better, but we cannot change for the better if we forget both our rights and wrongs of the past beholden to reflecting only upon our fading inaccurate memories of events.
