Have you ever engaged in fisticuffs with another gentleman?
« on: August 09, 2007, 02:36:09 PM »
There was an instance in middle school where I was playing basketball during gym class and I think I may have bumped into someone or generally disrupted a game as I was collecting our ball that had bounced off into a different court. This pudgey black guy with a lisp yells something durogatory at me as I'm passing him, I turn around and respond with something equally duragatory (this is how I remember the exchange; I can't remember the words, although I assure you it wasn't race related on my end) and he slaps me across the face with enough power to send me reeling.

At this point I get enraged and without thinking at all I attempt to tackle him, by which he is hardly fazed at all (I probably didn't weigh much more than 100lbs). As I have my arms wrapped around his fat body as far as they would go, he immediately knees me in the balls and lays on top of me as I'm punching his fat stomach until some older kids come and break up the "fight."

Other than this little squabble, I've never been in a real fight.

I Junior high somebody came up and elbowed me in the back, so I turned around and socked him. Later that week the same asshole was teasing a high school kid. The asshole threw the guy's glasses out the bus window so the high school kid too this cigarillo's long hair and pulled it across 3 buss seats. He was screaming like a little bitch.

i remember this one time when i was around 7 i was wrestling with this friend of mine. at first it was just for shits and giggles and then we both got really mad and we started fighting. at the end i him in a chokehold and he couldn't do anything anymore and he knew that so he just stopped trying anything and went all serious all of a sudden and just asked me, ''do you know what time it is?'' it was getting pretty late so we left it at that and he went home  :lol

i've been in a couple of real fights and i lost most of them, though :(

Did he call you "white boy"?

I've avoided many fights. One time I really liked this girl at the christian private school I played basketball for;  she was the pastor's daughter and was the most popular (and worldly) chick in the school. Anyway she was in like 9th grade and I was in 8th, yet she was dating this senior. This guy was the total bastard: he was constantly beating down on people half his age/size, loved to yell out wild accusations ("Maurice LOVES abortion everybody!"), and had a jew fro but wasn't even jewish. WTF.

ANYWAY word seemed to spread around the school that the big black homeschooled kid liked the white pastor's daughter. Luckily my friends never gave me crap over it and were supportive, but the senior took it the wrong way. I never intended on "stealing" his girl or anything like that, I just had feelings I couldn't keep bottled forever. So finally the JV basketball team convinced me to express my feelings to her after our next away game. Before we got on the bus (to head to the game) we were in the gym playing around. I was walking out the gym when I saw a ball flying towards me at light speed. Instinctively I ducked down; it missed me by inches, and cracked the door window ahead of me. I turned around and saw that lanky ass senior running away, his afro flying everywhere.

At that point I knew he needed to be dealt with. I figured next time he pulled something I'd fuck him up. Same day: after the game me and the team were sitting around watching the upperclassman team play when the bastard came behind me and "accidentally" spilled a drink on me. I turned around fast enough to trip him with my leg so fast it looked as if I didn't do it on purpose. He fell on his face and broke his nose. I glared at him and then pretended to get a call on my cellphone. Owned like a bitch.

I never got the girl btw. She turned me down :-\

Lots of times.  I lost my first real fight in grade 7 while fighting a dumbass 15 yr old who was still in grade 8.  He socked me right in the nose.  I got pissed and got socked in the face again.  It was pretty much over after that. Since I lost that fight so easily, the guys thought I was a pushover so more people challenged me.  I was a pretty big guy but some skinny punks still thought that they had a chance against me.  My next fight was against a poor trash with a great win/loss record.  Everyone thought I was going to get killed but I completely destroyed that guy.  I don't know what happened to me but I just went berserk while still thinking clearly enough to fight.  Since I got punched in the face last time, I jumped up and gripped him into a head lock.  I then kept punching him in the head.  Every time he tried to get out, I would lift his whole body up and throw him against the wall which knocked the wind out of him.  After that, no one wanted to fight me anymore.  I got into a couple of minor tiffs in High School but they weren't anything special.  Fighting is really stupid but I guess it's just a phase that some guys go through.  I'm in much better control of my rage nowadays.

I honestly don't remember, but I can't rule out race because I distinctly remember being ragged on for it in another confrontation (with a different person) during gym class that didn't result in a fight.

Too many.  The last fight I was in I got beaten pretty badly and ever since then I've kept an even keel.

That reminds me of how Prole "retired" after someone bashed his head with a metal pipe.   :lol

It's a good time to bow out.  you don't realize how stupid it is until you've been left bleeding with cracked ribs.

That's pretty serious.  Was it a fair fight or did he jump you?  BTW, unless the opponent is a highly trained martial artist, it's possible to win most fights just by being vicious enough.  For example, just let a guy throw a punch and then focus completely on grabbing his arm.  Most guys aren't good enough to avoid an arm grab.  Fully extend the arm and then punch him right at the elbow joint.  His arm would be broken and he would probably be unconscious.  That's too nasty for me to try though.   :lol

If it was from a movie I'd get the girl. She turned me down kinda hard. She was nice about it and all, but I felt like a total fool. All the senior chicks wanted me to ask, and when I got turned down they were like "aw, I'm sorry Maurice..." :-\

I was in 8th grade then. Basically I didn't talk to her again until she became a senior. She was even more popular and the captain of the highschool volleyball team, and I was transitioning from dominating the JV league to barely playing on the highschool team. We'd talk a bit at that point because we had "known" each other for so long by then. Everyone would always laugh at how much bigger I was than them back in the day lol.

I have so many stories from that school :lol

Not fisticuffs so much as getting beaten on, punched, or sucker punched, back in my more obnoxious, social days.  Most famously, the time when I was drunkenly ragging on The Police so much that my Police-loving friend punched me in the face and put me out.

God I hope that friend was Sting.  That would be awesome.

No, he was a fairly seriouslol punk rock guy.  He claimed The Police were better than The Clash, and that just seemed totally outrageous.  It escalated in a haha funny way for a few weeks, but one night, we ended up at a party together, and I was out of it and it went bad.  Good times!

After that I decided not to fight anymore.

Got in a bunch in MS/HS. I was tall for my age, and had been in Isshin-ryu karate since age 10, so none ended badly for me aside from the crowbar incident. Actually, the karate caused MORE fights; every little fruit with testosterone poisoning wanted to "fight the ninja". Only one that I later actually felt amused by happened my senior year -- there was this obnoxious JV linebacker, kind of a fat/muscley combo (who according to my brother -- also on the JV squad -- had a three-inch dick), who decided that he wanted to throw down with me after a game. I can't even remember what for; I was -- sadly -- sitting on the hood of my shitty Chevy Spectrum playing Game Gear in a dirt parking lot. He and a couple of his pals from a neighboring small town walk by and he runs over and shoves me off the car, so I just fuckin' stand up like nothin' had happened, put my fuckin' heel into his knee and felt it snap, and rammed my elbow into his sternum. I have NEVER seen anyone drop so fuckin' hard. His friends just stepped off. Really, I didn't know what to do after that cuz he looked kinda bad, so I went back to the field and got the band teacher. I actually wound up going with the band teacher and the kid to the emergency room. Fortunately, I'd only dislocated his patella, and the kid actually told the emergency room doctor that he'd started it, so I kinda got lucky. After that, he just avoided me, although my brother said the team was really pissed at me 'cuz the kid was unable to play for three games. Oh well!

My two notable fights in college I lost. I sucker punched a Marine ROTC cadet when he tried to bash my face in with a squirtgun, and he and two of ROTC buddies chased my ass down and beat the holy fuck out of me, cracking my shin and doin' SOMETHING to my jaw that still causes me pain to this day. The second time I was drunk at a Norman bar called O'Connell's -- big frat hangout -- and I was drunk and started mocking this frat guy, and he fuckin' coldcocked me and put me in some wrestling hold. I just went down. I'm still embarrassed to this day. Live and fuckin' learn indeed! Oh, and I semi-brawled with my roommate countless times over Mario Kart, especially when he whipped me in the face with a SNES controller. RAGE.

Nowadays I just carry a flick knife with me everywhere. My Goju-Ryu instructor in college gave me about a years' worth of knife training, which I hope compensates for the fact that 8 years after I left karate I became a sedentary slob.

I wouldn't say gentlemen... but...

One I can really remember is during soccer practice one year some guy sucker punched me when I wasn't looking. Luckily I managed to trip him and sock him in the gut before the coach broke it up.

Other than that, my brother and I used to fight all the time. *pow*

Define "engaged in fisticuffs".

I mean, I spar all the damn time.  I've had the honour of being punched in the face by honest-to-God UFC fighters (Sam Stout).

But "real life" fights?  Only one.  It was in the 8th grade, and I jumped into a crowd to protect one of my friends who was being picked on.  They chased me and dispersed, and I ended up in a tussle with one of them.  At this point, I had only been training karate for 1 year (ie. I didn't know shit about fighting) and so we traded ineffectual punches for about a minute until a teacher hauled us before the principal.

Since then I've broken up a few fights, in which I stared down the guy who was laying the beatdown, and I could see in his eyes the debate about whether he would try to attack me for daring to stop him from beating the shit out of the other poor sap, until he saw the look in my eye that said "I know my shit" and backed down.  Plus another where I was protecting that same stupid friend from the 8th grade (he had a knack for pissing off bullies).

Fact is, the me today would beat the everlasting shit out of the me from four years ago, and pretty much anyone else I might come across; and in spite of my skills, I've never had the need to prove it.

I've beat the shit out the brother a bunch of times.  I'm pretty good at taking down people and punching them in the face.  most of my friends have seen me fight with him so none of them picked a fight with me.

the only time I can remember fighting with somebody I wasn't related to by blood was with a chicken when I was 6.  I beat the fucking shit out of it.

That's surprising that you've been in so many more fights in real life than TVC and MAF combined.  'cause you seem to be much less serious than they are online.  Guess you really can't tell how someone is just from his posts.  How did things get started with those Marine cadets?  You kinda just jumped to the first blow without mentioning how it started.  Isn't it a crime or something for a military man to fight a civilian?  But I guess they could claim that you were a martil arts expert.  That frat fight was kinda embarassing though since it sounded like a guy that you would normally own.  I would have look for a rematch once I got sobered up.  But then again, that's the kind of thinking that lead to a crowbar over the head. lol

i grew up in a pretty rough area, i guess. i was telling my wife last night how shocked i was to learn in college that most people DIDN'T go to a school where fights broke out regularly and kids showed up to school drunk. i really figured it was the norm; it was a podunk shitheel high school in the ass end of lewis county, washington -- surely other folks have had similar experiences at super smalltown schools. i've had my car shot up by yokels from a rival football team; i've been arrested (and let go because my dad was a medic for the fire dept) for mip; and i've been chased for 30 miles by a crazy hick whose truck we sprayed with piss. and to top that: my classmates were a lot WORSE than me! i can never seem to decide if i really liked high school or hated it, which is probably why i don't have any real nostalgia for it -- it was just a baffling, distinguished mentally-challenged, hilarious and freaky time.

i'm a bit of a rabble-rouser at times; maf definitely is not a chronic boat-rocker, and tvc operates a little more subtly. when you really raise my ire, i tend to put decorum aside, although as i've aged i've learned a deep and abiding appreciation for working within the status quo instead of against it.

the marine cadet thing started with a squirtgun fight -- our dorm versus the rotc dorm. the cadet that threatened me was named "big mac" or something because he was just that: a huge fuckin' hick with a hair-trigger temper. he was kinda well-known because he was drunk all the time and loud as hell, and used to come into our dorm's common room to hit on girls and play the stud. anyway, me and my roommate got him cornered in this dumb squirtgun battle and were just hosing him off and mocking him a bit -- nothing really mean, as i recall -- and he just fuckin' went bozo. my roommate bailed and i was all "come on, dude, it's just a game" and he was FUCK YOU LOSER and tried to hit me with his gun, so I sucker punched him, and not even that hard -- it only made him REALLY pissed, and he started trying to grapple with me. one or two of the other cadets saw him trying to get me in a headlock -- and i was in total flight mode at this point, 'cuz I ain't so good when I'm surprised -- and ran over. i got away, but i slipped in the wet grass and they kicked the shit out of me cuz i guess MOB TIME. i felt like so much shit, and to make matters worse, my gf at the time blamed ME for it and dumped me two days later, although i think it was more due to how snobby me and my roommate were about, well, everything. fuck.

the frat hick? i had that coming. i'd mention more details, but suffice to say, i wasn't in a state to be thinkin' super-clearly, but even i had been AND still been distinguished mentally-challenged enough to start a fight, there's no guarantee i woulda won. martial arts is half-psychology, and if you don't have a clear adventage in surprise and environmental knowledge/awareness, even a black belt can lose for any reason. i vaguely remember him being kinda imposing when he stood up and thinking something along the lines of "ah hell, why did i just do that" and then OW.

why do i feel like i'm being trolled :'(

Huh?  I have a bad habit of jokingly dishing out backhanded compliments but what I said in that post was sincere.  Big props to you for all you've acheived despite growing up in such a rough neighborhood.  I'm not sure if I would have made it.  I probably would have done something stupid like joining a gang.

:(

last time i share any stories!

NO! Keep sharing.  I felt guilty for laughing but your crowbar/shuriken story was probably the funniest real-life story I've ever read.

oh, i see the disconnect -- i apprently made it sound like i was growing up in ghetto. it's nowhere that intense; i wasn't struggling to survive. this was just a shitty trailer park town full of hicks, and while bathtub meth cookouts weren't uncommon, there was very little drug action or violence of the non-domestic variety. it was just dumb, poor employees of darigold, local farms, logging companies, and the steam plant. it wasn't THAT rough. no gangs; no shootings (although firearms were often discharged, albeit pointed skyward or at a nearby animal); no murders (lotsa deaths from dui instead); lotsa single moms with multiple kids on the state dole, though!

Gotcha.  But a drunken hick town is pretty rough by my standards.  lol

well, there *is* a bit of a commonality, though, and it's why i get up in arms when i hear folks rail on poor blacks for having lots of kids on the state's dime, devaluing education or for engaging in self-destructive, short-term behavior: i saw that thinking every DAY with poor white folks.

The last fight I was in was in the eighth grade. Apparently, I touched this kid's book-bag and this made him very angry for some inexplicable reason. He demanded a sincere apology and I told him to suck my cock instead. So he had no choice, and started beating the crap out of me. Unfortunately, I had my book bag on my back, which was full of every single one of my textbooks (last day of school before winter break) and I had these soft gloves on. So with my lack of mobility and my soft blows, I was in no position win the fight. A teacher caught us fighting -- well caught him fighting -- and we had to continue off the property.

I knew I didn't have much chance at winning the fight, though I no longer had my bag on (one of his friends took it so I wouldn't run away) nor my gloves, so I had to play dirty. I kicked snow on his feet, and, as he looked down to look at his shoes, I sucker punched him. The only thing that accomplished was to get him very angry. Anyway, I ended up with two black eyes and various other minor injuries. Including, oddly enough, cuts to all of my knuckles. Though I don't remember hitting him more than a few times. Maybe some of my blood spilled on my hands, who knows?

I was in a number of other fights as a kid, but none of them ended badly. I was once jumped by a black kid while I was taking a piss (I assume that he was jealous) and we had several uneventful fights afterwards. I also once got in a fight because I tackled a kid in football. Pussy!

No fights in HS (never went lolz).

I haven't gotten in a real fight since elementary school. Used to get in them a lot. I never lost.

I was actually decently sized for my age back then.  :'(

Apparently I came close one time when I was pretty much blackout drunk in some dorm party. Apparently I was talking to some girl and then her boyfriend comes over and yells, "ARE YOU HITTING ON MY GIRL?" and pushes me. I think I just went, "What the fuck man?" while I saw about 3 other dudes all staring at me like they were going to all jump me if I did anything. I really barely remember it, if at all.

So you do home schooling then?  Is that why you are so intelligent?

No, I took a number of independent study courses. Well, I suppose that means I was kind of home-schooled, but I was my own teacher.

The last time I got into a fight was back in high school.  I was being harassed by some douchebag, so I started fighting him in the middle of class (I wanted the teacher to see us so that we'd both get demerits and the douchebag would hopefully freak out).  The first time, the teacher who broke us up was trying to be nice, so she didn't do anything except tell us to stop.  The second time (with a different teacher), we each got demerits and had to go to the vice-principal's office and he called up our parents, which was exactly what I wanted.  The guy I fought with started to cry like a stupid little baby - this was back in tenth grade.  I was overjoyed and thanked the vice-principal when I got my demerit card, which puzzled the teachers. :lol
