Here's the deal, I'm a college student so I don't have a super high amount of money, but I've found I can get a AMD X2 for under a hundred bucks which seems fairly reasonable as a tide me over upgrade until I graduate and get a real job (say 6 months or so). The problem is my motherboard is a socket A mobo so I'm going to need a new one but looking through new egg I haven't really found anything that fits my needs. I don't really want to buy all new ram etc so I was wondering if there is a mother board that will fit what I have:

2 IDE HDD (I could learn to live without one/buy an enclosure I guess as one is just storing non critical data right now)
DDR PC3200 RAM (200Mhz)
7800 GS AGP

Is this asking too much? If I want to step beyond the Athlon Ghetto am I going to have to upgrade more than my mobo and processor?

I don't think that you will find an AM2-based motherboard for your X2 (assuming you are looking at an AM2, as 939 is a dead end) that uses DDR RAM like that. I think the AM2 memory controller is DDR2 only.

Can you just punt the upgrade until you graduate and get a job? I can suggest some older games to tide you over if you want-upgrading after you're getting a steady paycheck from a job is a ton better than doing it right before you graduate and hit the usual wall of unexpected expenses.

edit-

Never mind.  I see that you've already been to newegg.  Don't know how else I can help you if you can't find it there.

Its not that I'm not getting a steady paycheck, I just don't want to spend $300ish this year on low level upgrades only to turn around and spend another couple hundred next year. I guess after Bioshock I'll have to hold off on PC Gaming for the year and stick to console gaming.
