I don't really find myself loving them as much as the generation from that period of time did. I like them a lot, and I agree that they're one of the best bands of that era, but I just can't be a huge Pixies lover.
I'm more impressed by Sonic Youth, even though the Pixies have an altogether more unique feel.
I will say though: I wish the current music scene had as many outstanding bands like the Pixies, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, and others from the late 80s. I mean, yeah, Unicorns, Islands, the Black Keys, Decemberists, etc are all great...but I don't know how their influence is going to compare to the former group.
