The last confrontation/firing scene with the therapist really did remind me of the stories about Brian Wilson getting brainwashed and drugged by his psychiatrist. This therapist, in some part of his head he saw himself as a part of the future of this band.
Also, the whole time he is around, aside from the beginning of his tenure, when there is some worry from all around over Hetfield's condition (he checked himself into some sort of rehab/retreat for a full year, pretty much spontaneously, kicking off this whole ordeal), Lars Ulrich always thinks the therapist is totally full of shit, and is never afraid to tell him so. As an Internet Man, lars Ulrich isn't one of my favorite people, but in regards to the therapists pretty clear bullshit, he's like a level-headed proxy for the viewer. Kirk Hammet, who is pretty much the only other real member of Metallica, is a quiet dude that is along for the ride. Between the battlin' egos of Het and Lars, Kirk knows it's usually best to be quiet. Hetfield, who has just come out of rehab is naturally kinda pre-brainwashed and totally buys into the therapist's BS, most of the time.
