What're the odds of finding a PS3 with BC for ~$300?

How much was PS3 going for during that super sale a few months ago at the Sony online store?

Will I be able to find a 60GB for cheap on Black Friday or something? What're the odds of the high-SKU PS3 keeping BC through 2008 or 2009?

it was $350.  There probably won't be any more price cuts but stores would probably bundle a bunch of free stuff during Thanksgiving.

I wish I had went ahead and bought that, now.

Is BC expected to be totally dead across all SKUs at some point?

From what I've read, even the semi-software BC in the new 80GB SKU is pretty worthless.  Sony seems to be even worse than MS in making the BC emulation work.  So basically the 60gb is your only option if you care about BC.  The 60gbs are still easy to find though. Most people don't really know the differences between the 60gb and 80gb, other than the price and HD size.

Yea, but I don't feel like paying $500 for the stupid thing. All I really want to play is Ratchet, and maybe Sigma.

Then just keep your PS2 and wait for the PS3's next price drop.  The PS3's ability to upscale PS2 games is overrated anyways.  Depending on your TV, you might not notice any improvements from the upscaling at all.  Some TVs, like the Pioneer elites, can do an even better job of upscaling SD material.

Hmph

My PS2 is a piece of shit though, and I'm not too keen on dropping $130 on a new one that will probably be another piece of shit in 2-3 years. And then I'd need to buy PS2 component cables and a component switchbox for another $100.

I'm wondering, say in a year or so my PS3 were to break, to the point where it couldn't be repaired and I needed another one, do you think I'd get a backwardless PS3 or do you think they'll have some extras just in case?

I should have mentioned that I want it to have a remote control.
