usually they drop in special firefighters that do controlled burns/dig out trees to get rid of the fuel in the path of the fire.

according to synthesizer's map, it looks like golf courses are about to get on fire.

It's the best word, though! It means "the burnt field that remains when an urban area has been razed so completely that no trace can be found of the former structures."
