Wu Tang Clan ain't nuthin to F wit...

It's true

Fucking amazing album. Shit is hardcore - and hard to digest initially. You won't find pro tools here, this is straight up ruckus. At first the sheer rawness turned me off outside of the more non-intimidating tracks like CREAM. You've got to digest this album - something I've never really had to do with a hip hop album.

The production is more subtle than most east coast stuff from the same era. The bass isn't as menacing, nor are music samples prominent. Instead you have a mix of hard drums and eerie sounds. Nothing is overproduced or extravagant. The emphasis here is on spitting. All these dudes bring it hard with witty battle raps.

I like this album, definately hard to digest.  I felt the solo albums were harder for me to listen to and enjoy right away.  Stuff like Only Built 4 Cuban Lynx... and Liquid Swords, took me a while before I could even start to like them.

did you listen to raekwon and gza's album AFTER 36 chambers?  if so, i'm surprised you didn't like them after the first listen.  i fell in love w/ those two albums the minute i popped them in my cd player.

I'm gonna get Liquid Swords next. GZA is probably my favorite member, along with Meth. With rap I'm very big on delivery, and both are able to deliver their rhymes sharply. Some of the other guys stutter and mis step a bit whereas those two have strong voices. First time I ever heard him was a few years ago actually. A buddy introduced me to this song called Fame, which is pretty fucking brilliant.

wu tang forever is not nearly as good as 36 chambers imo, but probably because i enjoyed the simplistic production of 36. 1/2 the tracks on that album are forgettable, which is a lot considering it's 2-discs.  gza and raekwon are probably my favorite emcees in the crew.  i really like rza too, he's got this sloppy flow that is unparalleled -- especially on the gravediggaz album (which i highly recommend btw).

Yeah, I listened to them after 36 chambers.  I think I went a little overboard with getting their solo albums, as I put Liquid Swords, Only Built 4 Cuban Lynx, and Ironman all on my ipod and proceeded to try to listen to them through a semester of school.  Maybe it was the enivornment I listened to them in, but I really couldn't vibe the first time.  Don't get me wrong though, I love the albums now.  The samples from the movie "The Killer" are fucking awesome as well, as I love that movie.

EDIT: On a side note, I actually didn't really get into Illmatic the first time either, but now I consider it to be an album I always go back to every couple weeks.  Maybe I'm just weird or some shit.

Oh god yes, I fucking love this album. You can tell from the production that it was recorded in some shit studio that the 8 or 9 of them probably couldn't even all be in at the same time. Forever sucked because it was made in some lame sleek LA studio. Clan's shit is meant to be fuckin' grimy and imperfect but in a kick ass way. indeed
