What are you playing this weekend?
« on: October 26, 2007, 06:26:32 PM »
here's my long weekend rotation:

ace combat 6 (360)
skate. (360)
pgr4 (360)
puzzle quest (xbla)
ratchet & clank (ps3)
dracula x chronicles (psp)
everyday pooper (psn)

gonna try and fit some orange box in there and maybe a few halo 3 matches.  otherwise, it's looking like a pretty busy weekend.

Just the Crysis demo.  I played a bit of R&C yesterday and really liked it so far.  It's easily the best game I've played on the PS3.

Ive only had 30-40 minutes with it but a lot of effort was put into it. The battle animations during turns are awesome, the stylus controls > luminous arc, and there are two campaigns, one for easy mode one for hard mode. I took the easy path first and named my character LadyBoy cause he looks like one.

Resistance:  Fall of wow this game is ugly so far

Portal:  I'm saving it for after I finish all the HL2 stuff, like dessert

HL2:  Ep 2 (lost my save when I traded my 360 in, have to start back from the beginning)

Maybe Motorstorm, if I buy it - is it worth $30?

Castlevania Dracula X Collection- I think I'm at around 40% done.  It's tough trying to find all the hidden items, but I am absolutely loving the shit out of this remake.  I did unlock both Rondo and SOTN (apparently there's a third hidden game too, which is the 10 second "game" you get trying to play Rono in a PCE without the proper card), and while Rondo does have some inexcusable slowdown here and there, it's absolutely fine.  I haven't tried it at 333mhz yet, so that might fix the problem, but it's fine, and Jeremy Parish was overexaggerating its flaws in his 1up review.
I know the game's a remake, but still, I haven't played through Rondo in like 9 years, and I just love having an old-school, challenging -but not so hard it's frustrating- action/platform game to play once again.  All the hidden paths to take are great, too.  I'd actually love to see a remake of Castlevania III in the same vein.

Phoenix Wright Trials And Tribulations- Finished the second case the other day.  I am enjoying this a lot more than the previous game.

That's been it so far.  I picked up Sonic Rush Adventure earlier in the week and played a few levels; it feels like a rehash of the first, but with worse music (still not bad though) and shittier story segments thrown in.  I'm told it has less pitfalls, however, which is nice.  I'm gonna hang out with a buddy either today or tomorrow, so that probably means a bunch of fighting games like Arcana Heart, KOF XI, Regulation A, and NGBC will get played.  And Halo 3, of course.

For some unknown reason, I kind of want to buy Ghost Squad on the Wii.  I haven't played a light gun game in years.

I'd still put it behind the original.  These games reuse of the same art, locations, and characters makes them all feel like major, major rehashes (it's like the Capcom of old!), and while entertaining, I always get a "been there, done that" vibe from each case.  I hope Apollo Justice changes that.

pw3 lets you play as  other people then wright for a brief time to switch things up a bit

you will notice the first case has you playing as mia fey/etc

all the characters seem new per case, other then the usual judges/gumshoe

godot (guy with the goggles) is the best/most amusing prosecutor by far imo

No, it's another straight GBA port.  The first game not only got the fifth case (which I believe was ported to cell phones.  Now whether or not it came first I don't know), but also redone music for the DS.  PW2 and PW3 really do sound like GBA games most of the time.

pw3 lets you play as  other people then wright for a brief time to switch things up a bit

Yeah, I know, and that's cool, but it's still using older characters yet again.  Payne is the prosecutor and fat-whatsis-name from the first game is helping you....and you're defending Phoenix Wright.

...
Quote

The second case has Adrien Andrews back again.  The third case has Maggie Byrde.  I want all new people to appear, not the same characters over and over again.  Like how the final case in PW2 had Will Powers, Oldbag, and even Lotta Hart returning for like the third time.

Quote

Kept reading this and wasn't too impressed in the second case.  He does return though, right?

I've been playing Final Fantasy 3 DS for the past week. It was surprisingly good. Great remake for the terribly aged original. I'm at the very last dungeon; I've accomplished every side quest other than the secret dungeon. The one thing I don't understand is why they give you the Onion Knight class, but you can't even really use it until level 90+. I'm level 44 after 21 hours played, and I'm assuming I can beat the last boss at ~50 or so. I'll probably end up turning it on and grinding every now and then when I have nothing better to do.

I actually hated this story though.

:-*

Logan's Shadow:  My first siphon filter, I actually like it.  It's a good mix of action third person shooter and that james bond kind of feeling. The story is bearable, but messy.

R and C: ToD: My first R and C as well, I'm enjoying it quite alot.  It's got a good personality, albeit a lil silly at times.  The space atmosphere is great.  The mixture of platforming and shooting, with the good amount of weapons are great fun.  Since it's my first game I really can't comment on the score or anything.

Rondo: I like the action type gameplay but I fucking hate richter.  the only reason this game is hard is because richter might as well be parapallegic.  Theres this part in stage 4 where the imps roll down on steel balls down some stairs, and these floating skull things fly around.  that whole section takes some crazy expert timing, exp with the distinguished mentally-challenged back flip.  Richter's abilities in the first part of SoTN combined with a more challenging castlevania side scroller would be good.

I'm playing gears for the first time and it's on the harder difficulty.

A. it's not that hard at all.  it has some super-frustrating parts where you're allies can need to be revived too easily but I've been breezing along right now.

B. it's pretty fucking fun once you find cole.  before that, it's really typical and boring but then then you suddenly get into it.

yep Im just fresh from finishing Gears, I played it on 'Hardcore' also, its basically just normal, casual being easy. I brezed thorugh the game pretty comfortably, its short too. There were a couple of shootouts that took me several retries but these only pop up later in the game where the baddies start sniping you. I really liked the characters, Baird and Cole are both really cool. I can agree with the people that thought the game was uninventive and boring, becuase it pretty much is. But it looks great and is a pretty enjoyable romp.

reading synth patel's gh3 thread i got this weird urge to play guitar hero. so i dug out my ps2 guitar and my copy of the original, and played through all but the last tier of songs on hard. had a pretty easy time of it -- i don't really play music games, but i do play music. then today i tried to finish the game and i couldn't do it at all. i couldn't read the note patterns fast enough. not even if i went back to songs that i'd already cleared. i guess i got into some weird groove yesterday by playing it for so long, and now i'm out of it  :-\

Played some more BOF:DQ... it's starting to get easier for me, now that Aid Kits are much more affordable for me. Just breezed through the Ice Caves and made it up to the Storage dungeon. Next weekend I plan on playing a LOT. The main thing I don't like about this game are that battles seem so freaking slow. Attacking like 6 times straight per turn and watching it do minimal damage, ugh... the combos don't really help me that much either.

the thing thats putting me off playing DQ is the fact that you gotta have a couple of free hours to make some progress, you cant just have a jam for half an hour. Ive got the PAL version where you cant quicksave (or whatever its called), I have to find a telecorder to save the game. I'll get around to finishing it shortly. (Im about 12 hours in, probably not too much more to go) Then I can start on VP2, Im pumped! Motoi Sakaruba music :bow

Although I havent been on the PS2 much lately, been preoccupied with MY 360 OMG

I got drunk and played some Flatout.  Figured the two went good together.

Now I don't know if it was because of my drunkeness or what but holy fuck is that game hard.  You have to basically run clean lines throughout the race to get to the front pack but to pass the douche in 1st you need to use nitros and the only way to get them is to run into shit which slows you down.  It's like the developers are pushing you down and beating your balls with a coffee cup.  They even give you an achievement for getting frustrated (how did they know?!).

After all that, I still think it's a pretty amazing game.  I don't ever remember seeing this level of destruction in a videogame pulled off quite so well.  Something to see, that's for sure.

Yeah, tell me about it! I can only really get to the game on weekends because the dungeons are so long and the telecorders are so few and far between (and I hate quicksaving), unfortunately... I'm about 9 hours in but it still seems like I haven't made much progress, even though everybody says the game is so short. Like I'm at -930m or so. Maybe the rest of the game will go a bit faster now that I am more familiar with playing. VP2 is pretty awesome, though! Amazing graphics and dungeons... I still think I prefer VP1 (ducks the rocks MAF is slinging at me), but yeah it's one of the best PS2 RPGs.

Actually I'm kind of wondering why I bought the Orange Box in the first place.  Valve's games don't seem to do much for me.  But I do want to try Portal at least, since everyone's saying it's fun.

Seriously - don't miss out on this years GOTY !

I'd try it, but every time I've gone to play something the past few days, it ends up being DDR!  I even got the wife playing it-- we played together for 45 minutes tonight.
