So has anyone else played SMG at their local game store?

Was it a jagging looking nightmare for you too?

I'm hoping I just went to a EB that didn't set their Wii up right/had a shitty HDTV or something. I believe it was a 27" Samsung.

The game was very colorful, but looked really bad around the edges. The lack of aliasing was burning my eyes.

i'm thinking of renting a wii from somewhere during the christmas holidays just for this game.

Yea, when I played MP3 at a Gamestop a few days ago, I couldn't believe how fucking jaggy it was. Holy crap.

Wii is usually bleck on an HDTV, but I don't know that the games are configured properly on those TVs, making them look even worse.

I went to play it but the wii was borked.

The Gamestop near my job had MP3 hooked up today. The short, fat, duck-lipped bitch behind the counter cut the power to the demo units like 3 mins after I started playing.

There's no way to properly configure a Wii game for an HDTV.  It's even a tradeoff going to 480p.  Without putting my finger on it (I haven't played enough, really), I swear that there's a tradeoff when going to 480p that makes the cursor move. . .kinda choppier?  Or something.  I can be off my rocker.

Anyway, Nintendo fucking sucks and I can't believe Nintentards let them piss all over this gen.

I'm being told its a low end HD TV with a bad scaler, so this makes me feel better. The gameplay was great but it looked worse than I expected after all the screen shots/video.

Also the opening cutscenes are unskippable :(

here's a tip to make the wii look FUCK AWESOME on an HDTV:

turn the sharpness all the way down, and use composite cables.  the less detail, the better!

Yeah, I am guessing all Gamestops and EBs have just about the same displays, or the same family.  I bet the display Nintendo has chosen for its kiosks is the right size to take dvantage of 480p without being big enough to see how terrible it looks on a real home TV.  Nobody at home has TVs that small. 

The difference with 360 and PS3 games is that those games *do* look that good on a big screen, as well as small.

At any rate, IIRC the tvs Nintendo had SMG on at E for All made the game look a lot nicer than the TV at this particular EB. I don't know why I didn't think about this earlier.

I played it when I picked up Tomb Raider (and a used Dead Rising!). I played up to getting the first Grand Star. Those things are huge.

It was pretty boring, and the "gravity" gameplay was more confusing and convoluted than fun. There was a lack of enemies and coins. What's with shooting star bits at things? That was only the tutorial level though. And they changed the 7th peach look-a-like to Rosalina, not Rosetta.

I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with what I've seen of Galaxy so far. I mean, the level designs look so awesome and not typical 3d platformer. It actually looks like fucking Mario. In 3d. And not some gay adventure bullshit with platform elements tacked on.

I'm gonna keep my expectations semi-low on this one. I mean, this is my most anticipated game so far, but after TP, I'm a little more weary of EAD's ability to make 9+ games again. At the very least, the music doesn't seem to disappoint.

The only new things to me over past platformers were:

collecting the stupid colored things by pointing at the screen (annoying and gimmicky, also kind of pointless)
shooting one of these stupid colored things out by pressing a button (wtf does this do?)
tilting the remote from side to side to spin up vines
shaking the remote to do the spin attack.

The gravity thing isn't really that confusing.

Tear collecting is like a half hour each time.  Possibly the biggest problem with TP is how padded the game is, and the useless tear collecting epitomizes that.  Tear collecting exists for no other reason than to make you re-run over terrain you have already explored, thus getting more use out of it.  It's the same thing as having to play all the levels twice in Silent Hill 4, or in Folklore, except ninfags eat it up because it's NINTENDO!

Most of the time once you're done tear collecting, you're done with that area. All you have to do is just do the dungeon. It doesn't require you to go over and do the area again at all.
