An early Halloween treat! (hint: it's Disgaea PSP)
« on: October 28, 2007, 05:32:30 AM »

Disgaea_Afternoon_of_Darkness_USA_PSP-2CH

* It looks GREAT, sharp visuals, no vaseline(tm) to be found here
* Voice acting, can be changed from English to Japanese
* It's Disgaea
* Runs baby ass smooth, no "intentional style" slow-down effect (tm TVC) here

Tell me how this is bruddah. I can only play one PSP tactics game.

I haven't even got knee-deep with FFT (yucky slow-down) and Jeanne D'Arc (yucky turn limits), I hope Disgaea isn't too overwhelming with all the stats and numbers.

I'm about halfway through Jeanne D'Arc and the turn limits haven't bothered me once.  I'm sure they will eventually, though.

Disgaea actually seems like the type of game that would work better on PSP than on PS2, since you can just spend free time during your commute, waiting for an appointment or whatever, at a coffee shop, just leveling up your characters in the random item dungeons.

Is it safe to put custom firmware on my slim PSP, or should I try to get it on my fat PSP?

It is safe as long as you know what you are doing.

You said it in the second sentence. TOSE.  They are terrible, terrible at their job.

I played through the PS2 version and didn't bother to level up insanely or anything (just did a straight story mode play-thru) but I am thinking this game is perfect for portability.  I might just pick this sucker up.

Well I can't push the shoulder buttons, but I just lay the PSP on the ground, move the nub/d-pad with my left big toe and press the buttons with my right big toe.

I guess, if you like Disgaea

I've been playing casually, I can see a loooooooooooooooooot of customization and just flat out grinding (re: numbers) involved, but I can see that it's not certainly mandatory. I've been reading GameFAQs board for some tips for a newb like me.

I've only played like two stages on Disagaea PSP. So far on FFTactics I haven't really had to grind. I guess I'll think about it.

ff tactics is for fagmo square types. it is grossly inferior to disgaea in every way that matters (except music): depth; graphics; interface; NUMBERS NUMBERS NUMBERS; longevity. do folks really want their portable strat games with the challenge frontloaded (fft is a cakewalk after a certain point)? on the other hand, some of the optional content in disgaea is brutal. also: item worlds. fft doesn't have them. fft sucks. it is archaic and ugly and bad and if you like it you are a nostalgia-infected chocobo-fucking taco who writes moogle lemonfics and touches your little wish-it-was-yellow dick to sephiroth-on-cloud crayon pr0n.

who the fuck plays these games for story? go play a standard jappity rpg if you want pie-eyed lolis talking animatedly about trees of mana and how they'll never know love and about how friendship prevails over all and how war is bad. s-rpgs are about STATS, STATS, STATS, and STATS, in that order.

All that's happened so far is Laharl is woken up after 2 years slumber, finds out his dad is dead, he has to rebuild his empire........................ yeah that's it, I dont think there is much of an emphasis on story in this

 :bow Professor :bow

personally, i only care about the Arc The Lad series, other tactics/strategy rpgs don't interest me.

I was talking about FFT/Disgaea story and characters comparison.

and from what you said, FFT sounds better but like what the Professor said, it doesn't matter here.

Any early game tips? I finished the tutorials and I now have a party of

Laharl
Etna
Prinny x3
Brawler x2
Warrior x2
Mage x3 (one of each color)
Skeleton x3 (one of each color)
Cleric

Should I be grinding or progressing?

I think in the early game you just progress forward and don't bother with the Prinnies, work with self-made characters, then later on you dabble with Item World and all that grinding grind-fest stuff when you get some story characters

i just got double penetrated by a) a 999 hit geo panel combo where i stupidly had my party standing on the WRONG color and they all done got obliterated, and b) beating a lvl 20 item general only to find a last enemy on an island out of throw/spell/shot range (not a diagonal; i know the diagonal throw trick, this was well beyond laharl's max throw range) and had to use my last mr gency exit instead of getting a new one. :'(

Using your last Mr Gency Exit really sucks. This is especially annoying if your trying to do the Double Item General/King/SPOILER Kill

I think I'm actually going to attempt getting all the Ultimate Weapons, which require you to get to the final level of the 2nd tier of each weapon class and beating the thing at the bottom (WINK WANK). I only got the Ultimate Sword and equipped it on Laharl (IT.FUCKEN.OWNS.)

I thought 3 was horrific, Twilight of the Spirits was decent, and was too scared from the reviews and the change of genre to bother with End of Darkness.

EOD is the worst, don't bother.

Arc 3 would have been really bad without returning characters (Tosh, Shu, Elc...etc...).

TOTS was decent, at least the Deimos chapters were fun.

and to me, Arc 1 is a small chapter of the godly Arc 2. :bow
