PS3 controller woes -- Pattern? There is no pattern.
« on: October 31, 2007, 03:05:27 AM »
The whole situation of PS3 controller woes gets more and more inconsistent.  Due to this total inconsistence, I still maintain that controller disconnects are more random than anything, and are not tied to specific games or anything like that.  Here is my latest experience.

Ratchet and Clank has had my name the past week, no surprises there.  I have probably put, oh, let's say 5 or 6 play sessions into it so far, between one and two hours each.  I experienced absolutely no controller issues until yesterday.  Note that before R&C, my PS3 games were Folklore (glitch and disconnect city!) and Everyday Shooter (glitches at inconvenient times, no flat-out disconnects).  R&C did not display any disconnection woes until yesterday, but between yesterday and today, it is almost at Folklore-like levels of disconnection and glitchiness.

Like I said, the lack of any discernible pattern, aside from it being tied to whatever game I happen to be playing frequently at the time, seems to indicate that this is completely random.  Folklore and Everyday Shooter do not cause or egg on the problems; the fact that incidents happened then was coincidence, and I indicated their guilt only by association.

I can't believe it's now been a year, and Sony has not addressed this problem, nor made any real attempt to try to address it.  Terrible.

The only solution seems to be using a USB cable.  If Sony could have solved it by software, they probably would have done it by now.  I bet the DS3 would have far less problems.  It's pretty disgraceful that Sony keep hyping the PS3 as the most powerful console yet its wireless controllers can't even work properly.

Is it an issue with the PS3 hardware or the controller?

are 80 gigs PS3s better or the same?

I'd say it's a hardware issue.

Seriously, I must be the only one without massive problems in this respect. Whenever I play my PS3 I rarely have disconnect problems. I've probably had less than ten disconnects overall since I purchased the system.

I had no problems for the first couple of months but now I'm getting them much more often.  It probably has something to do with wireless interference from other devices like some have suspected.

I've had mine for a month (60G) without a single dropped signal.
Sure, I've got to recharge the damn thing at least twice a week.  But other then that, no problems.

I think it's a hardware issue, TVC.  It happens to me as well and is one the most annoying things of the system.  I really irks me because I paid 600 dollars for the system near launch, and it functions beautifully in all other hardware categories with the exception of the controllers.

I still haven't experienced a controller drop out, but my best friend has.

Zero problems here in 2 months of heavy play.  Do you have a microwave in between your PS3 and your controller?

Nope.  The PS3 controller issues are widely enough reported that you can't feasibly deny them.

I've never gotten a dropout, but like the RROD I don't doubt that it's an actual issue.

I live in an apartment complex where everyone has bluetooth enabled everything and it happens to me at a far higher frequency than other people I know.

My apartment is filled with all sorts of gadgetry, including 2 wireless routers and several bluetooth devices, but the PS3 controller is the only thing that consistently has wireless issues.

And I very rarely get hard dropouts.  What is more common is for the controller to repeatedly glitch, or have one of the analog sticks get "stuck" in a position.

That sucks.  Have you tried a different controller?
