I played it at Gamestop and couldn't believe how fucking UGLY it was. Maybe it was the TV I dunno, but damn. I only played for 10 minutes but it was quite underwhelming. I stayed and talked to a friend who works there, and noticed some kids came in and ran to the Wii kiosk. Even they thought it was dumb and moved on to Guitar Hero.

god it's the type of game when you play, you want to wake people up just to tell them you did because it's revelatory. It's like you can FEEL the paradigm shifting under your feet when you play this, as if all Iwata's claims were proved true in an instant and the sound of a million doubters fell silent.

This game? It LOOKS like a 360 game, save resolution. Yes, they actually did do it. Anybody tries to post LAUGHING SMILIES at this proposition, poke them in the eye with your dick. They're laughing out of fear. They've actually done it here. ANYONE on GAF that denies the visual pleasure unfolding here is a bullshit artist and a troll. Yes, 360 can obviously do better but here is a Wii game that looks as good, and you won't even once remotely think 'oh hey if only that goomba had bump maping.'

The only reason games on Wii are getting good reviews at all is because it's something new. I don't see much happening in the next year or so. The Wii will drop off.

I dunno, I heard all this hype around the time of Super Mario Sunshine.

I still remember Jake Kazdai posting about how awesome it was to run around the town square kicking watermleons for like an hour and Miyamoto is the best and nothing on earth is better than Nintendo blah blah blah.

yeah -- literally every big nintendo game gets this rapturous initial reception. sunshine, wind waker, tp, phantom hourglass. each was the single best game ever. it's as if those first players haven't got time to muster an opinion and so trot out the stock response. radiohead album reviews come out the same way. i think galaxy looks great, but you just have to tune that shit out

the last several radiohead albums have been elaborate receptacles for a couple songs that i actually want to hear. on kid a it's everything in its right place and how to disappear completely. on amnesiac it's...i think just pyramid song. hail to the thief is there there and...probably something else, i haven't listened to that record in ages. i don't know if i've found the songs i like on in rainbows. the first minute of reckoner with that little self-possessed guitar line against all that drum clangour is great, but then thom yorke starts mewling and the drums start to behave themselves. oh, videotape is amazing -- there are thousands of sad songs that sound happy, but i can't think of many happy songs that sound so sad. and also weirdly sinister. and it's beautifully sung. though otherwise i find myself thinking for the first time that i'd like these songs better if thom yorke wasn't singing them, or if he was singing them differently -- his melisma on this version of nude obliterates the meaning of the words. 'don't get any/big ideas/they're not/gonna happen' means something. 'don't get any/big ideas/thee-eeeh-eeey're-noo-oooot/gonna happen' somehow means nothing. that song has been lived with for too long -- they should have recorded it a long time ago

so basically what i'm trying to say is that in rainbows is the single best album ever. insert commentary on iconoclastic direct download scheme here. also the phrase 'tireless innovators'
